Explanations
1. Total number of Physics professors: 32 + 8 = 40. 40% of Physics professors are between 35-44. 40% of 40 = 16.
2. Respective ratios are:
Physics – 32:8 = 4:1. Mathematics – 28:8 = 7:2. Chemistry – Less than 1. Economics – 24:8 = 3:1. So, Physics has highest.
3. Number of Psychology professors = 4 + 6 = 10.
Number of female psychology professors = 6. Percentage = 60%.
4. Total number of Physics professors = 32 + 8 = 40. Out of this, 30% are in the 25-34 age group i.e. 12 out of 30. Out of 12, 25% are female. So, 75% will be male. 75% of 12 = 9.
5. Number of Psychology professors = 10.
If the total number of professors in the university is ‘x’, then 10 = 2% of x i.e. 10 = (2/100)x, which gives x = 10*100/2 = 500.
