SOLUTIONS TO DAILY CSAT MISSION #98
1. (A) 2. (C) 3. (D) 4. (A) 5. (C)
Explanations
1. Let speed of boat be ‘x’. So speed of bus is 5x and speed of car is 6x.
So, time taken in boat = Distance covered in boat/Speed of boat = 80/x
Similarly, time taken in bus = Distance covered in bus/Speed of bus = 150/5x
And, time taken in car = Distance covered in boat/Speed of car = 240/6x
Total time taken = Time taken in boat + Time taken in bus + Time taken in car.
So, 15 = 80/x + 150/5x + 240/6x. From here, x=10.
2. To get Rs.1, he needs to put Rs.1 in first bag. He cant get Rs.2 from the first bag; so he needs to put Rs.2 in a second bag.
Now, taking both the bags, he can get Rs.3. But he cant get Rs.4; so he has to take a third bag containing 4 rupees.
Now using these three bags, he can get any amount from Rs.5 to Rs.7. But he cant get Rs. 8; and so he has to take a fourth bag and put Rs.8 in it.
Now using these four bags, he can get any number till 15, but he cant get 16; so he has to take a fifth bag and put Rs.16 in it.
Now, using these five bags, he can get any number till 31.
So, to be able to get any number till 25, he needs a minimum of five bags, one containing Rs.1, one containing Rs.2, one containing Rs.4, one containing Rs.8 and one containing Rs.16.
A shortcut method for this kind of problems is to see the number given till which we need to count. That number is 25 in this particular question. Express this number as a (power of 2) minus (something). 25 is written as (2 to the power 5) – (7). Whatever power of two you get, that is the answer.
For example if you need to count every number till 101, you need 7 bags because 101 is written as (2 to the power 7) – (27).
3. Let the total students in the class be 100. So, total number of boys = 55 and total number of girls = 45.
During the special class, 60% of girls were present, which is 60/100 x 45 = 27 girls.
Number of students in special class = 75% of 100 = 75. So, number of boys in special class = 75-27 = 48.
So, % of the boys present in the special class = 48/55 x 100 = 87%.
4. The number in the middle is obtained by dividing the (sum of the top two numbers) and the (difference of the bottom two numbers).
He is the woman’s uncle. So, she is her niece.
