The ideals of Uniform Civil Code(UCC) has been enshrined in DPSP(A44).
It is conception of modern liberal democratic values which harmonizes personal laws( marriage, divorce, inheritance etc) of different religions or sects and codifies into single coherent set of laws applicable to all. UCC doesn’t usually encroach in areas which are fundamental aspects of any religion.

Triple Talaq has not been protected in explicit terms by Constitution of India. However, proponents of it (e.g. AIMPLB) have contended that it cannot be abolished because of Articles 25-28 (Right to freedom of religion) and Article 29 (Curtural Rights).

Case for bringing UCC :
* to eliminate evil practices continuing in name of religion.
* To empower women who faces the discrimination on basis of religion as held during Shah Bano judgment.
* To reduce legal complexities arising due to multiplicity of personal laws,
* Law commission has also recommended to bring a reform in personal laws.
* It has been introduced in most Islam dominant countries like Pakistan,UAE, Turkey which hollows the opposition that UCC is un-Islamic.

UCC will truly help in making India more secular. However, care should be taken not to implement in such manner that imparts insecurity in religious minorities. It must be enacted after due deliberation and taking minorities into confidence.
