Newspaper Must Read Articles of The Day – 19 July 2015

Dear readers, I’m sorry for not sharing this with you at an earlier possible convenience, but I need to inform you that it is quite possible that the Daily Newspaper Analysis (DNA) will get delayed on Sundays (and very rarely, some other days) on account of me having other things to attend to in the mornings. Basically, the DNA is expected to come daily by noon or 1 pm. If it hasn’t come out by that time on a particular day, then it is probably going to come after 6 pm.

The Hindu

Front Page/National

  • US and India to collaborate on second aircraft carrier: India and the US had decided to launch the Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI) with six ‘pathfinder projects’ in January when the US President had been invited as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day parade. This aircraft carrier collaboration is one of those. (Click here for details about the projects).
  • Experts bat for space law: India is among the five countries that do not have a national space law to protect sovereign, public or commercial interests in the country. Most other countries  have laws based broadly on the International Outer Space Treaty of 1967.

International/World Affairs

  • Nuclear deal won’t change Iran’s US policy: Iran has said that the nuclear deal is not going to affect the way it views US arrogance in West Asia and that Iran will continue the people of Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and Lebanon in their fight against perceived US injustices.
  • Tsipras reshuffles Cabinet to get rid of hardliners: The Greek Prime Minister has reshuffled his Cabinet to fill the vacancies created due to the axing of rebellious Ministers who voted against the reforms demanded by international creditors. Greek banks are set to open from tomorrow, although there is much skepticism as to whether the austerity measures will actually benefit Greece.

Economy/Business

  • Increasing access not addressed: Although placing many drugs under price controls means they are available at affordable rates to the common people, there are still question marks on whether many of them are actually available to the common man. Plus, drug companies are increasingly making drugs that aren’t price controlled (to make more profits).
  • Start-ups set to redefine personal finance field: Start-ups are coming up in the personal finance field, and will compete with the digital initiatives of traditional banks (like SBI’s “OnlineSBI”) as far as creating loans are concerned. They are helping the Indian banking industry distribute products more efficiently. There is a shift in people seeking funding from huge branch network-dominated players to smart Internet or mobile platform-driven banking networks.
  • New secretarial norms to beef up practices: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has issued new secretarial standards that have been approved by the Central Government and have come into effect from July 1, 2015. These standards are aimed at increasing ease of doing business, improving governance, building confidence in the minds of investors and improving compliance levels.

We are unable to get to the Indian Express because we do not have enough people to do all that work. The Express articles will resume when this problem gets sorted.

    Dear Administrator,
I am a regular follower of your newspaper blogs. It is a great help for beginners like us. It saves our time behind newspaper. But of late it has come to my notice that you no longer give topics that needed to be read from Indian Express. Is it no longer needed or is it discontinued?
