sim 2 : I scored 128.
sim 1: 89 (I was in sleepy mood)
sim 0: 130.67

Abyaas Test 1: I scored only 67.5;
Rank 1500 out of ~12000.

Good score for abyaas: 100+
Good score for forum: 140+

Why do youthink this is happening?

Is Forum paper getting predictable or is Abhyas asking random questions which you may not need to know in the first place ?

Forum is relatively straight forward. By which i mean there is higher number of questions which are from static books. Further, more questions which one can eliminate and reach to the answer.

However, Abhyaas is random in both positive and negative sense.

First the negative part. They are framing questions from some obscure current affair mentioned in PT. Though it helps in the sense that one comes back and revises the PT thoroughly.

The good part is that, they are exploring dimensions in static topics more so in polity and MIH, which the commission too is doing.

The running joke in friends around is that on a good day write a vision mock to get back to ground and on a bad day write a forum mock to regain confidence.

So the mix works perfectly well :)

@Neyawn The simulator today was quite good.. Although I did not score much, but the level of the paper was quite good. I am sure others will also agree.
While attempting the paper, it seemed that it was very easy, however, the options were nicely framed that I fell into the trap of picking the wrong one..

Looks like you guys took the challenge seriously :)

Does mock test score get reflected in actual prelims. Like in JEE we used to know who will get what marks and those predictions were actually (absolutely) true

During my 2020 attempt, I had a close group of 4-5 people where we used to track each other's scores and knew exactly what the other person is doing.

The relative position with each other of our average scores in mocks is what was reflected in 2020 prelims score as well. If asked about absolute translation of score, if was nearby average score but not exactly either. There are many outliers in telegram groups and online forums but I haven't come across them personally to the extent that how genuine they're.
Also, this sample space is quite small to say anything but that's what I know

Edit : This makes me realise, kab first attempt ka third attempt ho gya. :) and yet to work upon optional.

@Neyawn Abhyaas was tough with a lot of random questions. There was a moment where I said Ye kya paper hai  but then that's how I have felt in the last 2 prelims :P

At forum, Logics and elimination do work. I enjoy solving simulators while Abhyaas gave me a really hard time. The paper was lengthy too like UPSC in recent times. On the other hand, I am able to finish simulator 15-20 mins before.

It may also have something to do with the structured environment in which Abhyas is taken

I personally think practicing both will help. Forum is helping in strengthening logics and smart elimination. Abhyaas may help us build nerves of steel (if they continue with this)

Wrt CSAT, I felt Forum is putting 3 Data interpretation (maybe 9 questions, even in PTS batch 5 CSAT papers ) questions. It felt as if they are just put to fill space. Abhyaas CSAT pretty much simulated the UPSC. It had everything number system, calendar, statement questions (which is increasing in UPSC) etc.

Is Forum paper getting predictable or is Abhyas asking random questions which you may not need to know in the first place ?

As mock tests both the papers are good for practicing; By attempting forum and vision, Aspirant can get ataste of papers with different levelof difficulty, randomness.

They have different characteristics. Based on my expreience

Forum

1. good coverage of basic concepts.

2. good coverage of important current affairs.

3. Answers are easily guessable (at least for experienced candidate/ more than 1 year prep).

leading to --->high scores. (CSE 2021 - not easily guessable)

4. Relatively, CSE 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 - they are not as easy as the forum tests. Difficulty level of forum sims could be that of CSE 2016  , with cutoff at ~ 116.

5. Last year forum open tests, I scored always 100 above. Sim X = 117. But scored ~86 in CSE 2021. There is a difference b/w forum sims and real exam paper. Compared to CSE 2018-21 , forum papers are predictable.

6. Having said that, it is not that a person always score 20-30 marks less in real exam. In 2020 (my first attempt immediately after graduation), I scored only 64 in Forum Sim X, but ended up scoring 79.5 in real exam. (plus I got both the removed questions as correct).

I won't say I was lucky during CSE 2020 and unlucky during CSE 2021. I made few silly mistakes both the times. And also got few random guesses correct both the times.

Vision Abyaas 1

1. Decent no of conceptual questions. Decent no of easy questions.

2. Some questions are factual/random which are difficult to answer.

3. Some questions ->are based on the topics that we know ; but details that are asked from the topic are not in standard books that we read.

4. Last year when I attempted vision ->I felt they were too random, difficult andnot UPSC like papers. (when I compared them to CSE 18,19,20)

But after giving CSE 2021, I felt even CSE 2021 is not UPSC like. CSE 2021 is random, unconventional with (I felt) stupid questions, degraded quality.

So, I unlike previously I am also ready to attempt tests with random/unconventional questions - both for knowledge and also to improve guesswork.

I am doing both forum and vision.

@Neyawn

i was just going to reply that.

I felt embarrassed when i came back and checked my score.

Questions from predictable areas but options tricky.

scores have dipped quiet a lot to say the least.

Haha! right time to make some amendments in prep and the jokes i crack amongst friends :/

What are the chances of qualifying prelims if someone keeps scoring between 70-90 in full length tests of different institutes and never really crossing the 100 marks barrier??? I know marks doesn't matter but it is important to devise a strategy and I don't really know how to make one.

Tukkebaji doesn't work for me. I have to rely totally on my knowledge during the mocks. Except for UPSC pyq, I never scored 100+. Somebody please help. Any senior player jinka previous attempts me pre nikla ho. Thank you. 🙏

In Forum Simulator Test We can do question by option elimination.
But in Vision Abhyas there was no much scope for it

I didn't mean to say it in a condescending way.  Sorry if if was conveyed that way.

Was meant in a humorous way.

Haha, that's not at all taken in any way other than you meant it.

Any constructive feedback is welcome. Always.
