"Time is what we want most, but we use worst."

Finishing off

Totally drained but a satisfying day.

Finished all the targets except writing questions (not fine but will let it slide)

Tomorrow will be the last day for reading fringe stuff like books on policies and skimming through committee reports for fun and a broader viewpoint.

Day #2 targets:

  • The Hindu
  • Finish skimming a) 3 general policy documents b) 1 foreign policy document
  • Write two questions before evening

"Don't speak if it doesn't improve on silence."

ps- sharing a thought before I crash on my bed, which I realised earlier today-I flunked this year's prelims. I am coming off a fresh defeat. If I draw enthusiasm from that defeat, it will not be a "sustainable process" because the exam is over 7 months away. So I must draw the drive/enthusiasm to work hard from another place which is value positive.

Good luck for tomorrow everyone. 🦖

@K03 Earlier I finished 'The India Way' by EAM S. Jaishankar. Today will go through 'How India sees the World' by Shyam Saran. For IR questions we need to write the pretext of the relations thus far and then the demand of the question with a way forward. The first one nearly provides the last two and the second one provides the earlier one. Hope that helps :)
"Wisdom is to live in tune with the mode of the changing world." -Opening lines of EAM's document.

Finished day's targets

Month end review:

  • 3 part approach, a)before-pre b)after-pre c)after result
  • a) felt everything was in control, targets were too fluid to be tangibly tracked
  • b) huge inertia to shift gears but gained a hold. Targets were 1)analysing pyqs 2)topper copies 3)round up sources for socio and gs 4)begin note-making. Finished first three, then prelims results happened and 4th got stuck.
  • c) targets were to 1)settle in for the long game 2)gain a broader viewpoint into things policy-wise and philosophy-wise. More or less done.

Targets for November:

  • 45 NCERTs (most have been done earlier or should be easily manageable)
  • 15 MGP half-tests
  • finish Socio notes skeleton
  • finish G.S. notes skeleton
  • no pressure for CA but bonus quest to command EPIC mags

Targets for tomorrow, day#3

  • The Hindu            (2hr)
  • Socio                    (3hr)
  • D.K.Balaji ethics  (maximum damage possible, no pressure)
  • 3 ncerts                (4hr)
  • answer writing     (1/2)

"Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase."

Good luck for the new month everyone 🤺

guys need suggestion between Forum Epic factly and vision monthly. what are like pros and cons or which one you found better

disclaimer: heavily tilted towards aesthetics and bang for time for me

EPIC pros: neat, well organised hierarchy(selling point for me), good assortment of facts

Vision pros: (*have done only 3-4 months) they cover any topic from ground up in much detail(might become a con)

General cons for magazines(applicable to EPIC too): might not be enough for prelims

Vision cons: the organisation and coloring and hierarchy, information density which is sometimes quite overt, tends to become little redundant(lesser than yojana). BIGGEST CON: two parts on the same page, frustrates me with continuous vertical reading ;-;

You'll need to google more from daily newspaper anyway. Less time spent on mags, the better imo

Cheers :)

Turns out I was not supposed to touch my books or pens today due to a festival, so I happily obliged :D

Did the Hindu, then decided to brainstorm dimensions and examples for essays, then browsed vikaspedia, then browsed NCW, then did the puja, then socio and last 1 ncert.

Tomorrow 07/11/21 day#9 targets: a) The Hindu b) socio c) ncert d) finish mgp test

good luck everyone 🦖

p.s.: I love the SFGs but not taking level 1 simply because it's a tad too early :/

Day#11 09/11/21: a) The Hindu(done) b) review the past week's work c) write as much possible d) revise and active recall e) link everything f) organise notes and make flashcards where need arises

@Muffin he had mentioned taking leave on the account of newspapers not publishing diwali issues and earlier he mentioned not posting everyday and only doing so when "enough maal ikattha ho jayega tab" :)

Took3 hoursto write the definition of attitude. Why? I had more than 10 sources for ethics open before me.It was paralysing :/ Perfect is the enemy of good. Last time I did the same mistake about 6 months ago when I took a whole day to write the definition of 'value'. This is the surest way of ensuring failure. At the root is fear, the fear of making substandard notes or writing substandard answers. But I have to accept that my first answers won't be perfect, my first draft of notes won't be perfect. And they might never be. Asa I accept this the better. It's almost foolish to do this, to put oneself at a disadvantage. Self-sabotage.😤

Targets for tomorrow after chhath puja ends in the morning and I feast on the thekuas to be probably followed by a big fat nap. Will tap into beast mode after that. 🦉

Targets finished today: 1) The Hindu 2) Answer writing 3) socio lectures 4) Mains issues brainstorming

From tomorrow targets will be less specific and more focused on picking up things that I can get done. a)<1hr for the Hindu b)<2.5hrs for answer writing c)<1hr for YT dna d) 7hrs max for soc+ncert+gs.

1 good day means nothing and 1 bad day means nothing and neither does how much ground has been covered.

Only things that matters is how much portion has been internalised with PYQs and Syllabus as an anchor.

Good Morning people 🌞

Late start to the day. Targets: a)CA<3hrs b)AWP<3hrs c)Rest soc/gs/ncert

After a certain number of hours(variably 6-8), the focus intensity falls. In words of Cal Newport, you can't do deep work beyond 8 hours. But I think we must endeavour to push the boundaries through meditation+physical workouts+scheduling proper breaks. Hoping for good results on experimental Sunday.

Keep hustling everyone 🦾

So manysocio peeps peeps here😮. I smell a golden opportunity.

How about we solve the pyqs? 5 questions everyday-6 days for one paper(considering 28 questions).

Everyone can pick one year, either Paper-I or Paper II a/c their convenience. This would ensure impartiality and coherence of effort. It won't matter if you have studied the particular topic or not. You can google the answer for all that matters. The goal is to have a skeleton of points. No need for coherence in format of answers either-It can be pen-paper or one-note or power point for all I care. I can do the extra heavy-lifting to bring the coherence.

We can also do resource-sharing, discussion or anything socio-related. This will hopefully help us a lot with mains in the coming months as we can later peer review etc 😤

We can develop more rules of the game as we go along but बस काम होना चाहिये।

Will make a telegram group for further conversation so we don't hog this space. DM for the link.

Anyone else is welcome 🏃🏻

Tomorrow to discuss logistics etc and hopefully work from 24th 🦿

Revision tuesday(23/11/21 Day#24) done.

Another week comes to an end. Was able to finish October Epic, few ncerts, 2 MGP, socio+GS mains issue notes partially. Fragmented effort. Lots of breaks and distractions. This will continue to the following week because of convocation BS😤 A senior once said, "you are pretty much done with iitk, I presume! iitk is far from being done with you though!" and the bureaucracy of an Indian college is hitting me hard with all it's ugly colours. Anyhow, will work around this: last week to do the substantial portion of humongous monthly goals.

Will try to finish big chunks of: a) ncerts b) mgp c) socio notes d) socio pyq(5Qs daily) e) gs-mains issues. Hoping for a focused week ahead to put some concerted effort. 🦉

30 days gone. In a snap.

Targets audit: [a] few ncerts left [b] only 6 tests written [c] socio notes skeleton ready [d] g.s. notes part ready, part skeleton ready part just structure ready so would say 55% of target done [e] did 2 monthly mags.

I had over-scheduled(like always) but only by ensuring that my time is over-packed do I ensure that I don't fall into the famous unproductivity traps/spirals.

Worked with what I'd say was 40% efficiency. So I choose to sit more hours to offset this.

It'll always be a sine curve. It's life. You read civilisational history or study any natural system, nothing is linear. Stoicism asks us to never complain, be virtuous etc etc. It's hard. But it also asks us to control the controllables.

You'd all think why you failed 2021 if you had so much of wisdom? Because this exam is unforgiving and even 99% doesn't cut it. My mistake was not understanding my starting point properly. I thought I could do what another man had done. And that was do it in less time. But I didn't factor in a few things and it cost me. It's easy to ask what to read, which test series to solve, give me a daily routine, but you are unique, your starting point is different, so respect that. "Think for yourself" is the most useful dictum I can follow.

Neyawn said once, if something requires a surgery and you keep using Homeopathy, it won't cut it. So I will take off for 10 days to Vipassana from 4th Dec to 15th. It's about return on investment. Better give 10 days and correct yourself or waste months doing substandard work and only reach 99%.

So much to write and so many strands of thought but the bottom line comes to this- there is a goal and there have to be the means to achieve it. There can be impediments. Break them down to the basest factors and cues and work on those. All the anecdotes and parables are useless if the morals are not put into action. There are no magic wands. No sheer moments of pure brilliance that can get you in that pdf unlike jee. The sheer scope of exam ensures that.

Lastly I had one more observation-if anything excites competition or comparison, better to do away with it. YPT tends to do that sometimes without us realising. But again, do what works for you and think/decide for yourself.

Maybe the next week my productivity will be shit. But I will choose to think from the first principles and figure out the roadblocks and cut them loose. We failed prelims in October so we are already behind the clock. Do your surgeries and get back in the game.

Targets for December:

  • Laxmikant, Spectrum, Monthly Mags
  • Mrunal/Ramesh Singh, Economic Surveys
  • 1 Environment Document
  • MGP as much possible
  • Socio notes beef up
  • G.S. notes beef up

I realise that there is no way I will be able to finish these with a 10 day hiatus but I will do my best to take big chunk outta these.

There is no sure way. And it gives rise to fear. But fear is the mindkiller. So it'll take some rising above the fear to get to executing. Have a fruitful month ahead fellow travellers. Let's be rational enough to make ourselves fit for Weber's bureaucracy and operate from first principles and put our best foot forward.

Targets for tomorrow:

[a] CA [b] soc pyq paper(try to end) [c] 4 gs-1 society topics notes finish

I wrote too much :|   Ah well. 🐈

I am sure that the 10 day break would do a lot of good. You're taking it together, others take it a couple of days at a time but everyone takes breaks. The process isn't sustainable without breaks so there's no reason to feel any sort of guilt. I hope I'm not overstepping here, if so, please ignore whatever I've said.

Have a good time! Looking forward to seeing you back here, reinvigorated :)

Guilt is a far possibility for me. I am excited as hell :DD

What's done is done. What went wrong is in past. We can't change it right? SO we will be putting ourselves at a disadvantage with our own actions. Now why would someone do that.

With the prep we tend to have a narrow lens and forget to live life. I refuse to do that.

I always try to take control of 3 things around me: [a] energy [b] processes [c] narrative. Don't let anything else grab the driving seat. 😤
p.s.:Imma sleep now. See you on the morrow 🦾

Hello everyone :D

So good to see you all working diligently towards your goals. I am back on the work train from today.

Regarding Vipassana, I will take some time to understand the best form in which I can share my learnings. But hopefully I will do it soon.

Today's targets: [1] ready an abstract plan of action for everything [2] add tangible aspects to the abstract plan [3] Cover current affairs in the rest of the time

Good luck everyone. Wishing you diligence and awareness.

Most of what I did in the past few days were [1] PYQ analysis {again} {prelims+mains} [2] CA [3] Backlogs of unavoidable work & collabs.

Being honest to the self is tougher than being being honest with the world, but I had to do the exercise of objectively gauging my strengths and weaknesses and mapping them onto the demands of the exam.

"If you're not working hard, ideas don’t matter. The best idea is worthless without execution. If you're already working hard, ideas are crucial. Most effort is wasted on mediocre ideas."

Hoping that my current analysis is closer to being my real state, I will get back to working on my macro plans and finish the leftover backlogs asap from tomorrow. Tomorrows targets: [1] The Hindu{1 hr} [2] brush-up for SFG entrance {half day} [3] socio 10 answers {rest of the time}.

Transcription of someone's DP's quote on forum which stuck with me: "To achieve something you have never had, you will have to do something that you have never done." Wishing everyone perseverance for the last week of the year 🦾

Sab ko naye saal ki hardik shubhkamnayein :D

P.S.- I will be a little inactive here but my good wishes for everyone's prep.

P.P.S.- An insight I got is that reading words of wisdom should not be mistaken as acquired wisdom for the self. It should act as inspiration for us to do moral acts to actualize the wisdom through our experiences and increase our stock of wisdom to generate good work and good will for others.

The change in calendar warrants nostalgia. Let's turn all emotions into a positive force 🦾
