what is the adequate amount of studying in a day ?

and what all should it comprise ? (like number of topics or number of pages)

and which tasks should be daily rituals other than newspapers

your ideal day ?

watching some toppers talks, it seems as if they knew everything all along, you see the clarity, the confidence, the pride, feels like they had it sorted all along, you see no flaws, you dont see the downs, neither do they emphasize much on it

and then, there you come back to your reality and its okay, until those bad bad days hit, and were just down bad, confused, and it seems why is it so hard for us

this is what i go through sometimes, but this platform is really helpful in that aspect, you see your peers, actual journey, the graph with ups and downs, mistakes, solutions, sometimes you relate, you can put your heart out,

this is

a good place to be

Most days are energyless for me. No motivation to do more than what I am doing right now, a simple govt. job.

I lost one of my parent last year and things haven't been on track from then on. Missed 2021 preliminary by 0.66 (ahh!). I feel I am unable to give time to my people but I guess it's because I have nothing interesting to tell them or talk about.

I joined a group C govt. job because of father's worries about my future aur yahan bhi man nahi lag raha. I have always believed that the thing which you do for most part of the day is where you succeed.

8 hours job + 8 hours sleep + 1hour (before + after job) + 2 hours daily chores +  phone calls eat most part of my day. I am left with 2-3 hours. I have a 6 day central govt. job.

I don't know if it is lack of motivation or I seriously don't have time for UPSC anymore.

But everytime I say I don't have time for UPSC it feels like a mini breakup. I don't know if I am lost or it's a phase or I'm down with some kind of depression (sorry if I used that word casually). One thing for sure is I am unable to take UPSC as an exam now. I feel bad and sad.

Any worldly or unworldly gyaan is invited.

what happens is , we dwelve so deep into the anxiety and hopelessness by giving constant attention to it, it takes form of depression gradually, and everythings seems utterly unpleasant.

par actually the truth is that it is a phase, surely a very bad one, but a temporary phase, this is the truth and first of all you have to realise this, that it is temporary and it can change, it will definitely change.

then you decide to cahnge things and start taking action.

aur upar se apne UPSC ka weight le liya hai sar pe, thode time tak usko side rakho, concentrate on your well being , try and get out of this mindset, effort lagao, journal likho, socialise karo, bhale hi resistance aa raha ho par karo.

try to do things that make you feel good, dhire dhire thik hone lagengi chizein. fir upsc ko bhi leana wapas, achhe mindset ke sath taiyari hogi.

somewhere@Neyawn said redbook can be the standard book for environment but i am confused as other sources are average 400/500 pages like shankar or pmfias , and redbook is 123 pages

can i rely on redbook, or should i go with one of the others ?

@mightyraju Its a problem for most cities, I would much rather live in a smaller city than the metros

@khabhacheed you can, I would suggest you should, Environment is current affairs dependent subject for the most part and Redbook covers the basic static portion well, easy to revise at the end when prelims are around the corner.
I read the first 200 odd pages of shankar and was surprised to find good enough summary in about first 20-30 pages in red book.

this is a relief, thanks !

Back here after 3-4 days. And the story remains the same.

The guilt at 2 AM fires up the hope for a beautiful tomorrow. All of my plans for the future involve me waking up tomorrow with a sudden sense of discipline and adherence to routine that i have simply never displayed in my 20 years of life.

All the enthusiasm fizzles out when I hit the snooze button in the morning and the next day I'm back where I was.

Days, months, and years go by, just merely existing on autopilot. I am the worst version of myself living the worst version of my life. Sorry if these rants ruined your mood/this thread or anything else, but worry not, this shall be my last pitiful rant here.

Will be back on 1 August (maybe, maybe not)

Guys, I need some help. How do you peeps mug up things and revise?

I am not able to do it efficiently and it is costing me heavily in mains.

In my last two mains, I have deduced that mains cannot be cleared without effective mugging up. I am not able to do that properly and it is making me irritated.

Any suggestion how to go about it?

gave my first mgp test today, and could do 3 or 4 questions in 90 minutes, aur mujhe yahi laga ki yad kaise rakha jaye itna content, soch soch ke likh raha tha.

i think the suggestion for making notes is best, but in my situation, i have hard time making notes.

for example today was a sectional test of gs2 and the primary book being lakshmikant, i knew it wasnt enough for mains. so the whole week i scavenged and for perfecting the topic first and then to make comprehensive notes, but ended up doing poor scattered prep, less revision and very few notes.

and as i analysed the paper, i realised i could actually do well if i would have really revised lakshmikanth topics from mains perspective, and then in the later part enhanced it with references from here and there

but still i dont think i can make notes for mains, because i make offline notes and with no experience of notemaking, bas rayta felta rehta hai paper pe, koi comprehensice chiz nahi, na updation ki space, confusion hojata hai pura

looking for suggestions, agar yahan koi guide kar de bade log to bhala hoga.
