Neither did 28 June come good nor 29 June. I can get a pass because I was sick on 28th. But 29 ki barbaadi apne haathon ki hai. Also, I need to catch up on my Mains TS. Kal ye say Karna hoga .

Not shubh Ratri exactly, but still Shubh Ratri.

Awein hi gya aaj. Got up late(at 8 am,when decided to wake up by 6). Started with Topic 8,but got embroiled in deciding ki whether to cover different sectors of Industry(Sugar, Textiles, Electronics vgarah) here or leave for GS 1. Confusion hi confusion. Then what was supposed to be a one class affair in college got enlarged to 3 classes affair with 2 extra classes. Not counting it my list of days.

Long Sunday, I hope. Shubh Ratri!

So, I realised that reading Vision CA is one of the hardest thing to do.

It takes lot more of time than anticipated.

Also, I couldn't go till Page 68.Somewhere around Page 48. So,It will take 3 Mondays all in all to finish one monthly I suppose.

So,I ain't going over-ambitious for tomorrow. Itna hona chahiye kal toh.

Like days seem so short for me ever since this fear of approaching college exams and short attendance has taken over. Finding it hard to even take out 7-8 hours par koi nahi!

Bas GS 3 ka Mains syllabus ho jaaye sahi se before exams begin in the 2nd week of August. Tough task, but lets try hard. Shubh Ratri doston!

3.5k views

I don't wake that late(though 1-1.5 hours later than I want). But by the time I finish my first task, I often realise ki college hours are approaching. I am as slow as tortoise these days and tbh I am not into any short term dopamine trips of late. Kal I will have study time till 5 pm. Dekhte hai. I hoped to finish Economy portion by this Sunday and also finish relevant MGP tests, but its not happening now anytime before Wednesday I guess.

Not listing any targets for tomorrow, but the task is to finish Topics 9(Infra) and Topic 10(investment Models) asap in a day or two.

Shubh Ratri!

3.1k views

So,almost done with Topic 10. Topic 9 of GS 3 still to be done.

Tomorrow is CA day.So will devote whatever time I get to further read Vision CA of May.

@Wima_Kadaphis Don't fret over it.Except for CA, try doing Biology ki 11th and 12th ki NCERTs.They are relevant. Also,do from original NCERTs and not some compilation. They have beautiful, colorful pictures and that helps in retaining that phyla/kingdom stuff which will help in elimination.

watching some toppers talks, it seems as if they knew everything all along, you see the clarity, the confidence, the pride, feels like they had it sorted all along, you see no flaws, you dont see the downs, neither do they emphasize much on it

and then, there you come back to your reality and its okay, until those bad bad days hit, and were just down bad, confused, and it seems why is it so hard for us

this is what i go through sometimes, but this platform is really helpful in that aspect, you see your peers, actual journey, the graph with ups and downs, mistakes, solutions, sometimes you relate, you can put your heart out,

this is

a good place to be

Its not the same as a fully productive day, but its still better than wasting your day entirely)

Jobless rate cooled to 4.2% in 2020-21, says PLFS report | India News - Times of India

If UR is minimum in 2020-21; how can it justify the impact of Covid on employment. Somebody make me digest

Because of the following(also cited by organisations like CMIE in their analysis) -

Unemployment Rate Formula is =Unemployed×100/ Labour Force.

So, see here, the whole of population is divide into Labour Force and Non Labour Force. Non Labour Force also includes class of workforce(15-59 years) not seeking employment(like women who are well educated but not willing to jump into job market because of plethora of reasons).

So, what has happened in recent times is that a decent amount of workforce is not looking for employment these days kyunki unko pata ki nahi milegi job due to crises in job sector.

Toh, this naturally will make the denominator(which is labour force) in formula for unemployment rate less. Toh Unemployment Rate shows up as less in statistics. But this isn't a real victory because our LFPR is around 47-48% while of countries like USA, its around 60%.

Toh crisis hai job market mei because of Covid par Unemployment Rate mei vo show nahi ho rha.

I saw people venting out their thoughts, fears, pain, happiness on this platform. Gathered enough courage today to write something I often feel. I called it courage because I'm a person who don't express anything to anyone.

It's been 2 years .....I came back home from Delhi due to lockdown. I was comfortable with studying in the library. 2 months after coming back, I lost my both  grandparents. In the next one month, I had prelims.....my mother tested Covid positive 3 days before prelims......I hardly read anything for 3 months before prelims. I failed miserably in prelims. Moreover I was mentally n physically exhausted. It took almost 6 months for our family to recover n get back to normal.

What I didn't notice is I was not normal. As I started to study after many months, I couldn't concentrate. There were days where I struggled to read even a single page. But when someone disturbs me I became furious. I used to cry badly.

Every day in the morning I have to help my mother in packing lunch for my parents n sibling. When I sit back to study there comes a knock everyday....milk man.......then another knock between 11-1pm  comes maid whenever she wanted to. I also involve in household work in the evening, as my parents would get tired after coming from work. So I tried to study at night but it badly affected my health. Adding to this people come home frequently. They don't leave without asking me. Some even said that I  was giving lame excuses. Some said that sending children to Civils coaching has  become a social status... literally on my face.

In the beginning I thought it was ok, I can adjust to this routine. But over 2 years just sitting at home with no other activity, negativity started creeping in....... cognitive distortions.......crying for everything.......unable to concentrate......always feel low on energy....feel worthless .....are these really excuses?.....Can change in environment help me come out of this brain fog?

Please do change places. It certainly helps. In my case, once laziness got associated with my living room at home,I really was engulfed by it. Ever since I have  shifted back to Delhi again and joined a library, things have considerably improved. Also, try taking that first step.Half of the decisional inertia is gone with that first step.

Take care!Best-est of luck!

A day late and have still missed some portions. This has been of the most unproductive week for me. I have missed deadlines by good enough margin.

Also, since now I have State PCS Prelims on 31st, I will be leaving for home on 29th from Delhi. What I just expect is to write at least one more test of MGP. I initially planned to complete GS 3 before I jumped into college exams, that will eat whole of August. Since that isn't happening now anyhow, I will try doing Environment and DM alongside Geography in September.

Tomorrow is CA day. Struggleof reading May CA of Vision continues.

@LetsGetThisBread Indeed. I absolutely love PS. Also, reading PS reinforces ki Nye aur Stiglitz zinda hai and Shashi Tharoor still talks sense.lol!

Most days are energyless for me. No motivation to do more than what I am doing right now, a simple govt. job.

I lost one of my parent last year and things haven't been on track from then on. Missed 2021 preliminary by 0.66 (ahh!). I feel I am unable to give time to my people but I guess it's because I have nothing interesting to tell them or talk about.

I joined a group C govt. job because of father's worries about my future aur yahan bhi man nahi lag raha. I have always believed that the thing which you do for most part of the day is where you succeed.

8 hours job + 8 hours sleep + 1hour (before + after job) + 2 hours daily chores +  phone calls eat most part of my day. I am left with 2-3 hours. I have a 6 day central govt. job.

I don't know if it is lack of motivation or I seriously don't have time for UPSC anymore.

But everytime I say I don't have time for UPSC it feels like a mini breakup. I don't know if I am lost or it's a phase or I'm down with some kind of depression (sorry if I used that word casually). One thing for sure is I am unable to take UPSC as an exam now. I feel bad and sad.

Any worldly or unworldly gyaan is invited.

Sir,don't worry. Do what seems doable.

Also, don't be hard on your ownself. This struggle is such that we become sensitive to all the worldly problems, but often insensitive to our personal problems.

Also,take care of your papa.

Best-est of luck, sir !

Decent stuff today. Also realised the pains of revising Environment Portion of Vision CA.

I still need one more day to finish May monthly and I don't have another Monday to offer. Will have to adjust somewhere.

Also, since I missed targets last week because of my over enthusiastic plans, I am trying to complete Topic 9 of GS 3 in next two days(have been stuck here for long)-

@Pepethefrog Yaar that detergent thing. It is so relatable. Yaar for the past few months, I am wearing shirts which have recognisable white detergent spots. Mujhe late hi nahi kapde done sahi se. And mind it, I travel to DU campus(abode of fashion by all means)everyday wearing such stuff.

@SergioRamosHey, I am primarily looking for a source to make Intro - points - conclusion format notes. I just find onlyIAS ones to be a bit concise and upto the point. I have read standard books for polity, economy etc so just trying to merge the two and their material provides the necessary skeleton for this purpose.

I checked Raus mains compass, say for the topic Inclusive growth both have more or less the same point. Raus goes into a bit more depth, but is that depth useful while writing answers? From my limited understanding it's basically generate maximum points, substantiate them and you have a good answer. Have I got it wrong?

And what do you recommend for topics like Society, Governance, Social Justice etc?

Thanks once again.

I had asked a forum mentor this question and was suggested to try either Prahaar / SunyaIAS material (Paid) for mains preparation.
I have been using Prahaar for GS2.

Prahaar is good. Even I did Polity, Governance, Economics idhar se hi. Some topics are missing and some are poorly arranged.Like I can recall that they have put some content of FPO's under Food Processing Industries(FPIs).Nakal ke liye akal thing!

Also, keep one basic book as reference and add Prahaar up and over it.

3.2k views

Guys, I need some help. How do you peeps mug up things and revise?

I am not able to do it efficiently and it is costing me heavily in mains.

In my last two mains, I have deduced that mains cannot be cleared without effective mugging up. I am not able to do that properly and it is making me irritated.

Any suggestion how to go about it?

Make your "Dirty notes", by that I mean short notes/ one page notes or anything under the sun , that includes the things that you have difficulty in remembering or things that you want to be on ur tips.

A week before the exam, my productivity was super low, but i keeps revising and recalling all the facts, quotes, diagrams etc. over and over again, so I found it relatively easy to make them a part of my answers as well.

Okay. Take for example I have a 15 page note of an optional topic. How do I go about compressing it? Like there can be two approaches I can think of.

1) dividing the topic into various headings and remembering the headings.

2) writing all the difficult to memories things instead of a micro summary of the topic.

How should I do it. And, are there any alternatives?

Give your input too@LetsGetThisBread . How to go about it?

For optional say you have to remember Plato, I take one page and make a cloud diagram sort of thing where one cloud represents the theory of idea and from and write all the related keywords about it. That way you’re not writing the entire thing against, just the keywords which makes it easier to facilitate recall as well.

As for GS, suppose you pick a topic of nutrition- your one page should contain, definition, data, keywords related to the problem, schemes and few keywords for that scheme, solutions and way forward, as well as a diagram.

Seems like a cloud server.Lol.

@crikeymate Is it Piyush Chaubey kya? Do WPT first naa yaar. The scholars are repeated in Theories of IR part. There is no fun reading realism sans Kautilya, Machiavelli and Hobbes.

@D503 Seeing the enthusiasm around their product by UPSC aspirants, Lucent Publications may try jumping into the UPSC bandwagon with a probable product like 'GS Shots'.Lol.

Today my 6 year old headphone lost a limb and that prompted me to introspect about my own tortuous journey into the abyss of cse. Am i also not being worn down by circumstances, chewed by the sharp teeth of time, consumed by profound grief and guilt,  undermined by my sheer lack of discipline. My hairs are graying , my health is deteriorating , my parents are growing old, my friendships have passed into the black hole of oblivion. What am I doing with my life.

A mocking voice came wafting from next room : making a mountain out of a molehill.

"It's just a headphone silly",shouted my sister over her lungs in her quirky voice.

" Would it have killed you to feign some sympathy", said I.

" I don't have any sympathy for petty bourgoise who plunge into existential crisis for a stupid overpriced product of a capitalist system that exploits the labour of the third world poor workers ,and that makes a lot of noise about sustainability and ESG corporate pradigm to whitewash its products; and then sell these products to the same gullible bourgeoisie who lap it up, thanks to the blietzkrieg of modern marketing techniques that have succeeded in transforming the multidimensional man into a unidimensional consuming man who defines his identity in terms of what he owns, and of which brand", came the retort.

Needless to say my mood was runined and i knew exactly the thing that could cheer me up. So , i went out to have a pizza at bominos. After that i went to the shopping mall to buy some expensive branded tshirts (made in Bangladesh in a sweatshop) , and some Jodhpurs at a steep discount( they said it's limited time deal so my fomo kicked up and i forgot that they have been offering the same discount since forever. Great strategy, mark your product at 7k give 3 k discount and it's still expensive af) . nevertheless, After suffusing myself with capitalistic gratification , my senses were pleasantly calmed. Took an uber back home and gladly reasured my self with ' Isn't life amazing'.

Oh! About those headphones. The company just released a new improved version which will make me feel as if the celestial nymphs themselves are  doing a live concent in front of my eyes. This made me wet at my mouth, that is to say i was salivating like Tommy , my neighbour's dog. Cant wait to get my hands on them, that is to say the headphones , not the dog. I hate dogs. They remind of my own pavlovian conditioning.

Marx cheers for you and your sister :)

Seems like a Mallu or a Bong household, in all good probability. Lol

A random thought.

Lately, i've been experiencing the silly ways that cse (and its failures) change you.
I recently joined instagram, after a 3 years-long break. And began to feel a parental pity for how my old classmates are spending (read squandering) their lives. I am 22 this year, so are my friends. 😐.

I see my friends becoming parents on Instagram and it’s just pity that I feel. 😶

(Disclaimer: I love babies but at some point everyone hates their kid)

Today wasn't the day. Tbh, I have been scrolling through books and was still undecided as how to proceed. In the process, my head felt like bursting.

The fact is, I couldn't finish most of the targets. It was a case of some bits here, some bits there.Transnational Actors remains and Miscellaneous stuff was 60-70% done.I don't want to see the face of Economy post 1st September. I don't want to chase perfection here, but ain't able to restrain my tendencies.

A promise to self- Come what may, but I will appear for MGP tests of Economy not beyond 1st September.

Hi guys. Didn't post since last two days because my tendencies to miss deadlines was consuming me. I just was feeling a bit guilty(I have stopped feeling so since February 2022,but somehow this feeling had again engulfed me post college exams). So, I went to give the test today. Though, I feel I wrote it far from what I can term as satisfactory, but koi nahi. I was poor on reproducing what I had learnt, but am an eternal hopeful. Also,I believe Economics is something which can give me incremental returns with 1-2 more revisions(since I had just revised my Mains notes twice and there was a month long gap when I made them before exams) Now, I will be shifting to Geography.

Also, Sunday seems to be good day for deep observers in Delhi Metro. On Sundays, a decent amount of DU crowd  seeks weekend dates, the small kids and  outstation youth seek a trip to India Gate and blah blah. And, then there is usual but relatable survival economy where struggling aspirants are jostling with some hope and huge aspirations.Furthermore, I again lost my way. Not once but twice. Initially, I found it hard to locate the new test centre and then way back home, I landed up in Patel Nagar from Karol Bagh to strike home a realisation that I need to change the metro and subsequently, the platform.

Also, next few hours are for good, relishing food accompanied by soothing movie or webseries.

Back to posting targets.

Today's Progress-

A small confession- Last 10-12 pages of Monthly are still to be finished.

So,I found a decent rhythm after a week or so after I was done with exams. I honestly loved it.Today was a slow ride, where I could grasp almost everything I read. Even reading the Vision monthly didn't seem like a shitty task.

@LetsGetThisBread Same energy yaar. If there is one thing that I love the most(and still quite inaccessible),it is my sleep. A funny anecdote here- So, last summer when I felt like sleeping while studying, I made a mischievous plan. I closed my room and even the fans to ensure that I get to hear the footsteps when my parents come near the door. But alas, I was caught red handed.

In my limited choice of aspirations, I want to have 3-4 days on trot, where I just sleep and sleep without having to care for anything.

@Morticia This is such a good start. Best of luck dost.

@DancingMaster You didn't change your username but rather you are reborn:neutral_face:

@huck A genuine advice- Except for IR part of GS2, don't jump to Mains 365 straightway. It will make the coverage of topics a bit haphazard.

Slow day. Was occupied with downloading Mrunal Geography Lectures till 1:30 pm.They have poor resolution and the YT download was downloading in a much poorer resolution, before I could find a solution.

Anyway, quite satisfied with the day. Also, would like to thank the person who shared that video with a hack of blocking of your breath. It works for me, when I feel distracted while studying.

*I did SSA Khan with notes, but not Aurobindo Ghoshji. Also done G1 and 75% of G2 of Geomorphology Playlist of Rajtanil Ma'am.

Also, guys I so so need to finish Geography before September ends.Tough hai, but if this happens, my job is easier from now on.

Also, asking for an advice(those who have written Mains)-Can I keep some tests of MGP for January and February(Like Art and Culture)?Like giving Mains tests while I revise those topics for approaching Prelims+ some note making for Mains too side by side(like 2-3 days in whole month of February)?Btana please.Also@LetsGetThisBread ,do you recommend doing this?

Also, I see people in Delhi meditating in parks at around 10 am. I genuinely feel like asking them-

Also, I want to beat up that person who had posted on Quora that Rajtanil Ma'am's videos can be finished in around 4 days.

@TomiokaGiyu Reading CA monthlies or year end complications is inevitable. Not because they give high RoI but because you will be engulfed with  FOMO if you avoid reading them.

@RiRi Welcome to the party!

Also, some useful hack- If you are someone who hates mapping and all, try pasting a very large sized map on your washroom mirror. It helps.Lol

Hi Guys. A pretty staggered day with very little progress despite putting in hours.

Actually, I got pretty confused with one lecture of Mrunal Geography and have been stuck there.

If someone did refer to those videos, can you please clarify if the content in G6/P2 video right or has glaring mistakes? I feel depth of knowledge in those explanations, ranging from confusing Latent Rate of Condensation with Latent Rate of Evaporation+ Explanation on Adiabatic Lapse Rate, which I feel is an explanation for Lapse and NOT ADIABATIC LAPSE RATE.

Btana if someone has done that. I will be obliged since my Climatology part is the weakest and I don't wanna have weak foundations in Geography this time around too.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I didn’t get your question. For that matter I watched the whole video. But couldn’t get your doubt. Could you be more specific? Maybe I can answer correctly. Because Geography used to be my Optional and Thermal subject used to be favourite subject in college days, although I’ve lost touch with both.

To begin with, thank you for responding bhai. One of your longtime admirers.

Like at around 8:50, she while talking about rising air parcel mentions that Latent Heat of Evaporation further aids in the process.

In my limited understanding, won't it be Latent Heat of Condensation(and not Latent Heat of Evaporation) upon reaching a certain height that will be released and subsequently it will make air mass to rise further and subsequently, form clouds.

Also, there was no mention of stable system while she taught Adiabatic Lapse Rate(at around 14 mins )

*I am worst in Climatology. I won't mind to be corrected here

2.7k views

@Naadan_Parinda Haha. Tbh, I am not intending to be harsh on her. The fact is I Geography has been my Battle of Waterloo. I was down with Hepatitis when I first read the subject. Also, I had a general disinclination towards the subject till very recently. I have always feared making maps and believe me, I have now atleast overcome this fear by making maps every now and then.

In short, I wasn't doubting her. Rather I was doubting myself ki I must be wrong here. Haha. Thanks for clarifying.

Also, my schedule for today guys-

I will be completing-

-NCERT Climatology Portion

-PMFIAS Climatology Booklet

Hi guys. My progress today-

@Naadan_Parinda Haha.Another anecdote-Me and my friends applied for an inter- department cricket tournament in college(those ones which happen along with Departmental fests). So, while we were defending a total, I had to bowl. While I bowled pretty well in my first over and took 3 wickets,I still ended as the culprit due to the second over I bowled. With one wicket remaining and around 25 runs to defend in last 2 overs, I squandered around 20 odd runs kyunki muscles had given up by then:neutral_face:.

Still stuck there. Either I will take an off tomorrow or day after to make up for this loss. Even if I don't take an off tomorrow, yet I will try finishing this stuff by tomorrow.

I don't know a bit about cartoons. My childhood and early teens was spent watching Doordarshan. But I will always wish someone makes a big budget superhero movie on Bhagwan Hanuman. Also, as an IR student, I rue for the fact that our film industry has failed to export some of our greatest historical accounts. That would have sharpened our Soft Power beyond that usual Curry and great food. Even the West, which is a far more recent civilisation was able to export their values. We failed to do our bit.

I still remember there used to be a teacher who had a unique way to torture us. She used to take a pencil, put it between the two fingers and then twist the fingers around it.This was for violating the rule of No Hindi in class. As a rebel,I ensured that my name ends up in defaulters' list every day and I was unsuitably punished.

In the name of discipline, we all as kids have been tortured. Some sort of discipline enforcement is good, par teachers of our age were sadistic.

Haha. I'm team Popcorn. There used to be days when this forum used to get politically charged. There was one Sahu guy, who used to light the matchstick, followed by a grand tu tu mai mai.

So I have wasted a day giving a send off to my dear-est friend today.I always expected@D503 to light the fireworks. Now I have an opinion and that isn't a favourite amongst guys studying for an exam that is oriented towards Humanities.

So, I was being taught Hohfeld's theory by my favourite ma'am(Anju Vali Tikoo ma'am). So ma'am did posit a question before all of us in the due course of teaching the topic. The question was-What came first, Claims or Power?

She  did explain the query superlatively. But, I would try to introduce that aspect in the debate sparked by my bhai@D503.So, Tyagis tried to bully and so did all the nincompoops who don't think twice before challenging the authority of the State.

And, I am super satisfied that State is being Retributive when its authority is jeopardised. State can reform what can be moderated. But, who will moderate the devilish tendencies of individuals trying to push girls into flesh trade. Or, for that matter trying to illegally grab properties and if restrained, then resorting to bullying.

Bulldozers aren't always the solution but they do send a message and a relevant one. The message that the State ain't a Soft State anymore. Furthermore, bulldozing ain't a lasting solution and I agree here. But, what it leads to is a general impression of state coming after you, for the grave wrongs you commit. This consequentially leads to fear and helps in establishing rule of law. Imagine raping a girl and a reformative system rewarding one with life skill courses in jail.

Also, the formation of governments is duly in the hands of the  people of the country. And, in the process, they are entitled to Administraive Discretion, where bullying the untamed is a good option in some instances.

To conclude from where I started, there ain't any Claims sans Power. What we as citizens will demand if the idea of an imposing state itself is watered down.

@LetsGetThisBread Jaise teacher, vaise unke bacche.

Guys idhar virtuous batein kar rahi hai ye@Morticia . Vaise she called me Perk for being as thin as that wafer cum chocolate is.

@D503 Haha, Lal Salam bhai.Ye@Morticia jhoothi hai.Her daily itinerary be like-

Jhoot bolo baar baar Jhoot bolo ||Modi ji remix song || - YouTube

To begin with, you made a great attempt at sly by drawing analogies of Iran,Afghanistan and all.And this ie precisely where you got me wrong.Firstly, in the examples cited there is no chosen sovereign,as John Austin and Thomas Hobbes would have liked in the enforcement of Legal Positivism. Secondly, they don't fit in the definition of State by any measure. They are religio-political territories in their very foundation. Thirdly, what I see as a Hard State is somewhat akin to what Margaret Thatcher did at the height of Labour class movements. Like, imposing the whims of a State when the State is pestered beyond a threshold.Fourthly, I have emphasised on the fact that State should moderate what can be reformed.

To draw an analogy, dissent is a tool that is to be appreciated in a democratic scheme of things. But then, it shouldn't challenge the authority of the State. It shouldn't lead to a situation where ruffians like Tikait threaten to march to Parliament and make a mockery by violating the sanctity of Republic Day celebrations.A Hard State would have taken every measure to get roads in the national capital cleared when protests became perpetual and protesters as another set of 'professionals'.

In a Soft State, an ex-RAW Chief(Dulat) goes on to be a mercenary of our rogue neighbour. In a Hard State,an Edward Snowden struggles for asylum, for exposing the ills of the panopticon controller aka USA(and, I respect USA for doing what I see as a national interest in a Nation-State structure)

@LetsGetThisBread It will be a blessing. You spread such positive vibes all around. This forum is a testimony to that.

Let me explain it you in Dhamaal type sequence@THE_MECHANIC bhai. Aggrawal Sweets Delhi hai naa. Usski sate wali gali Mei nahi jaana hai.Aagey chalte rehna, phir Merath wale aayegi, usski ssath wali gaali Mei bhi nahi jaana hai. @Lawstice True. Judge Rockstar does come across as a principled liberal tbh(I respect him here). Also, as far as I know, he is a workaholic too.The only issue I have with him is his fantasy with everything West and his insistence to have those values here in India. Paragraph 66 in the part authored by him. Abhi toh Marital Rape par bhi bhari barkam shabdo ki baarish hogi.I toh anticipate succession feud between Chintan and Abhinav on who will be getting CJI mantle earlier.Lol.

@Naadan_Parinda Telegram par TSP Thunder karke search karna bhai. On MH thing, I see a bit of ethics and more bits of political foresight. I guess the new government there avoided passing the political momentum to their opponents since a loss in Andheri East would have hurt their chances in BMC,I guess. In addition to what Prashant Kishore cites as 4 M's(Message,Messenger, Machinery,Mechanics),I feel there is another M to politics and that is, Momentum(Hawa)! That is why we see attempts made by political parties to rig Local Bodies elections that are held just before Assembly Elections!

A slow day today. Started by reading some pages of Indian Geography and then decided to come to college. The campus is marooned(Pre-Diwali vibes) and I feel absolutely drowsy.

@Naadan_Parinda I am not for NJAC tbh. I want the system to be somewhat similar to UPSC. Like someone gets into Lower Judiciary, moves up the ladder and goes on to become Judge in HCs and SC.Tbh,I feel sad for Judiciary wala crowd. What incentive do they have when they are assured that they will never get into Higher Judiciary, come what may. Also, there is a deep problem with Collegium. Those who go on to occupy the benches of HCs and SC,never had the experience of working in Lower Courts. All in all, very detached from the problems faced by the countryside.

PK understands quite a bit about Indian politics, but I have an ilking that he won't succeed in Bihar. He may be a good strategist but to win over a state still riddled with Mandal Politics is quite impossible.

@Lawstice I toh deleted my account when I started preparing.Pehle toh I was a raging and ideologically driven individual. I still am.The only difference is that now I am far more accommodative and can see beyond ideological affinities.Inter Personal Relations over Ideological affinities!

@Naadan_Parinda I will disagree with you on merit thing, bhai. This argument coming from a Social Liberal PoV is problematic for me. Dissing of exam based achievements just because someone had a good economic and social background creates a situation where we end up criticising all the existing parameters that are employed in recruitment based exams.

@mightyraju I agree with you. There should be some objective criteria and exam. I was talking about proportional representation from every region, caste, gender etc. Currently, in the name of reservations, only elite and some caste groups have occupied the posts in other fields. “Equals should be treated equally”.

I get you, bhai. Also,I abstain on speaking on Reservations since it evokes too much emotions on both the sides and when emotions are high, common sense goes for a toss.

Shubh Diwali guys.

I don't know from where to begin, but Bhagwan Ram evokes so much emotions in me. I have tried understanding the great man beyond the aspect of him being a Vaishanvite incarnation.

For me, Ram is the one who travelled from Nashik to Lanka for his beloved in the times when polygamy was the norm.

For me, Ram is the one who was an ideal son, a perfect brother, a master leader and a committed friend.

For me, Ram is the one who chose Rashtra over family.

All in all, Ram is every bit of good in each one of us.

@sleepygal In the same boat since past few weeks. My regularity has been replaced by poor follow up on my plans. But,then this is part and parcel of a long journey.Furthermore, one is always short on time and less on content until one succeeds and sells 'the perfect strategy' package. So,have that faith in your own self.

I got out and saw that lady rapidly entering the station while a man chasing her saying ki 7 lakh le kar chal gayi. As, I was observing all this, autowalhe bhaiya asked ki bhai tu kyun bahar nikal gya hai!In retrospect, I guess it to be some marital dispute!

Yeh school toh gazab creativity se cheating karwata h. Teachers are always standing outside or looking at their phones while invigilating. Some even leave the class because they know they’ve not taught much in the term so they have to invent ways for the kids to pass the exams

Before I sleep, a funny anecdote. In our 12th class Chemistry practicals, the lab assistant distributed chemical samples with names written on chits. The storm stuck when some lads from our class even named the chemical whilst their chemical ki pudiya remained intact. The invigilator from outside was served good food(maybe some ghoos) to sort put things.

Was able to complete economics and environment(except short CA) of Vision. Tomorrow, again is a college day, but lets make some bits of the time at hand.

@LetsGetThisBread I never cheated. Mujhe pta hi nahi vo kya hoti hai. Cheating karni bhi nahi chahiye. I am all for honesty!

On an anecdotal front, there has not been a single school and college exam, where I didn't cheat except for the exams I gave this semester! Warna toh cardboard ke peeche light pencil par likh kar jaata tha.

Had a decent day after 3-4 days(seasonal flu).

@LetsGetThisBread Tum meri tarah oldie ho naa. Tab hi tumko pta hai. The guy now runs his own institution in South India. Par individuals involved in that case were gutsy tbh.

@Lawstice I never got inside the gate of the mecca of UPSC coaching industry but the rumour of Pavneet Singh as an undercover IB/RAW agent is also funny.Baaki, nahi milli taxi,Ojha bhaiya sexyyy!

Yahi sab dekh k one 28 years old coaching going kid says ki khOjha Sir Bihar k CM ban jayenge(with all seriousness& innocence). Because He has huge fan following!

Kya hoga is desh ka😭

I find people quoting him left and right even now 😐

Forget him I find quoting any of these UPSC teachers CRINGE at best!

I had even typed a comment requesting you to do your B.ed training with all seriousness in morning but then left halfway.

I've felt that people having qualifications for teaching posts & having qualified for similar exams do hell better than these people. Sometimes we all take help of these UPSC teachers because dearth of options but try comparing them with your school or college teachers recruited by a properly laid down process.  Yes, you might feel that they don't teach enough but you will feel the difference in whatever little they do.

Nothing against anyone, wrote what I felt. I found the so called best faculties in coachings as below average & hence a rant maybe. Haha!

Everything is good here, but some teachers are(or rather seem to be) gems. Like Shabbir Sir(never studied from him),Atul Garg Sir(obliged to have learnt ethics from him), R.Dudhat Sir(never studied from him but saw him helping students at SRIAS),etc.

Came across something strange just now and had to share this. I know people impersonate on Telegram, but having a fake Quora account to promote some bogus faculty demands some next level dishonesty.

Dono ka function alag h. We can’t truly compare them. Coaching cater to a completely different ecosystem and study routine. They are not aimed at inculcating critical thinking or analytical skills necessarily, they’re aimed at helping you clear an exam. At any point if you do evolve analytical or critical thinking skills, those are incidental. Whereas colleges are focused on analysis and critical thinking in depth on a particular subject. They require reflection at length in only a specific area of study.

Havingsaid that, I do agree that we shouldn’t glorify anyone, be it school/university teachers or coaching teachers. Both sets of people are only humans with a particular agenda to fulfil.

Idk why but this pump and dump is getting very common with our generation and people very easily play with the emotions of others.

Also, a general query to peeps-From what month should one exclusively dabble with Prelims?

I have my semester exams in January followed by State PSC Mains in February. So,in all good probability, I will be able to go for Prelims exclusive prep only after PSC Mains.

So, had few hours at disposal and was able to do Topic Attitude+Newspaper+Telegram Channel updates only.Tomorrow is an off day, so hoping for a far more productive day.

@TomiokaGiyu As much I would have wished to join SFG,but it does not look plausible. Starting from January is a perfect timeline, but for the last few months, it has been a case of missed timelines on many fronts. The big task before me now is to have scribbled notes for all topics of Mains syllabus before I appear for State Mains and start with exclusive Prelims prep post 25th Feb. Vaise did you join?

Also, a general information- Anyone who wants to come out of this cycle(or maybe otherwise),can try appearing for TISSNET 2023.The notifications are out. And, with around 5 days of quant prep, one will be able to score enough to clear HRM cutoff(which will ensure a very stable financial backup).

Hi guys. Went for room hunting in South Patel Nagar and realised the amount of inflation now engulfing that area. The demand supply equilibrium is disturbed and owners and touts are the only beneficiaries. There was a situation when a broker showed me a room and I was like-issme ventilation nahi hai and he was like- Washroom Mei hai naa window.Oxygen aati rhegi.Lol!

Also, every time I have hunted for a room,I have been accompanied by my parents(as they hardly trust me on this). The realisation that parents adjust with a minimalistic lifestyle to ensure that their children live comfortably hits very hard at this juncture.

Also, a useful channel for those hunting for rooms(I got very good prospective offers from West Patel Nagar side but I chose South P Nagar since I have lived in this area earlier)-

Kaha ho@DancingMaster @mightyraju ?

Will try to take one thing at a time. I can almost feel my head bursting with the amounts of backlogs that I have.

But do one thing at a time, one day at a time.

Hi bhai.I am doing good. Unconventional sa hi approach I can afford with less time at disposals focusing on solving Workbooks+ will do FLTs in the last 30 days or so.

Also,I have always felt some differences between Mocks and actual Prelims(could be quite wrong)-

Elimination- Easier in Actual Prelims vis a vis Mocks.

Make or break Sections- Those that have easier questions. Polity and Economics(maybe, Geography in the past 1-2 years) decides if one clears or not.

Tricks and all- Certainly work in actual prelims, if not that much in mocks. Not every answer turns out to be right but the net result is positive.

somehow, I have ended up with the opposite conclusion!

I feel UPSC has a set/limited number of questions, in which elimination can be used, rest are usually questions to be attempted through lateral thinking, an educated guess, intuition and all. Overall elimination statements are less, I  think.

I feel mock tests give you a wider scope to use elimination strategies, of course there are certain mock tests which are VERY difficult, ignoring them and looking at the average mock paper, there seems to be more options and chances given to eliminate and to reach the actual answer.

Maybe for UPSC, there is more focus on conceptual clarity, which reduces the elimination chances and now with the pairing questions, they are on the path of eliminating the elimination!

Personally, I love the elimination questions, so much joy when just by striking one statement out, a complex question can be solved easily!

Could be a thing. I am, however ,not taking into account the 'number of elimination based questions'.They could be fewer in number vis a vis mocks. In my experience , even if I could eliminate one statement, the job was almost done for a good number of question. Also,in our angst against the commission, we generally cite that all our guesses went wrong. I believe this is half the picture. Actually,we get a good deal of them right based on our intuition and aaj kucch toofani karte hai spirit.

Vaise, this one statement/two statements/... wali innovation on the part of commission is scary.I dread a situation if they include such options in 60-70 questions !

Hi guys. A general query around MGP+ course. I joined the yearlong one for 2023. Gave tests for GS 2 and GS 3 and then lacked on discipline. I know I won't be able to write even 50% of the pending tests by this Mains.

Does anyone have an idea if Forum extends the time period to attempt these tests or not?

@TomiokaGiyu @Lawstice .If anyone has any past experience, please do tell. Thanks.

Goodbye old friends. Though I was active on this thread long back and just for a short period of time, but I had fun here. I was neither consistent nor committed to this thread, just like my studies. Just like everything I try my hands on. But it is perhaps the only place where I jotted down my thoughts, so decided to jot down a few more.

Despite the cacophony about prelims being vague, factual, random, absurd, blah blah blah, I know I failed prelims due to my own complacency and I take 100% responsibility of my own failure. Hopefully, I will learn something or most probably I'll carry on with my futile existence squandering few more years, then few more..... Only time will tell.

To all those who cleared prelims, make it count. Best Wishes.

Pepe, you have this very good trait- to be honest and upfront about your fallacies. We(including me),as aspirants, generally lack this good trait. The general tendency is to blame everything, rather than to introspect. No doubt,UPSC Prelims is random, but so is the tendency to be consistently studying hard for a year long cycle.
