Prepare wholistically for a year. There has been a lot of alignment of syllabus. Try for Civils whole heartedly before going for state PCS. Do not jump into the habit of writing exam “just to check out and get a feel”. Preparation is a bit more important than writing the exam.
Also please note that the guy who has secured Rank 1 in Bihar PCS appeared for Interview in first attempt in Civils just like that, then didn’t clear prelims and state PCs exams in a row. For like 4 years. Then came back and prepared for 1 year in delhi before his sixth attempt like a fresher sitting with freshers. Got Rank 1 in BPSC. Now writing IFoS Mains.

Btw if you have missed Prelims cut off by a whisker it is a good start. Focus on mains if possible the. Focus on prelims when the time comes. Don’t take prelims lightly and give it at least 4 months

Follow Daily Current Affairs To Keep Yourself Updated
One important, in fact, decisive, part of the preparation is to religiously and consistently follow the newspaper daily. The candidate should always be updated with all the important national and international events. You can follow one or two magazines and government sources like Yojana, Kurukshetra, PIB, PRS, etc. Also, if time permits, you can start with your initial answer writing practice after you are done with the mains syllabus once.

Took a kind of break from forum thinking it would help focus. But finding it extremely overwhelming - so coming back just to feel like I’m not alone if nothing else. Everyone says it’s emotionally taxing and strenuous, and I used to think I was strong for never feeling it that much. *universe chuckles* I was so so wrong. This is the worst, worst phase of prep in the last year and half. But I guess these are the times that test us most. Even when it seems like mains is an insurmountable mountain I’m not ever going to be able to cross, even when everything seems to be slipping away, gotta believe in yourself and keep plowing on.
