Doubt Clearance Thread: UPSC 2021

@Archand Yes. Article 216 explains it well. Quoting the relevant bit below.

'192A. Constitution of High Courts. Every High Court shall consist of a Chief Justice and such other judges as the President may from time to time deem it necessary to appoint:

Provided that the judges so appointed shall at no time exceed in number such maximum as the President may, from time to time, by order fix in relation to that Court.

Is National commission on minorities part of ex officio member of NHRC . PT doesn't state about it while vision test 11 says it to be member of the NHRC. can someone clarify this

The Chairman of NCMisan ex-officio member of the NHRC. At present, there is no full time Chairman of NCM due to which the Vice-Chairman of NCM is doing the duties of the Chairman of NCM and thus participating as an ex-officio member of NHRC. Hope this helps.

What is Medical Oxygen & Industrial Oxygen

The difference is in purity, as far as I know. While the contents are similar, medical oxygen should have at least 99.5% purity or above. In case of industrial oxygen, presence of minor contaminants and impurities are acceptable.

which charter act threw open civil services to indians - 1833 or 1853?

1833.

"The section 87 of the Charter Act of 1833, declared that “no native of the British territories in India, nor any natural born subject of “His majesty” therein, shall by any reason only by his religion, place of birth, descent, colour or any of them be disabled from holding any place, office or employment under the company”.

@AyeRamadhirin spectrum it's given that theoretically 1833 act opened it but practically it didn't happen for long and first Indian civil servant could be appointed only in 1860s after passage of civil services act 1861. So I'm confused.

^from upsc website

I reckon that if the question asks 'When was it first thrown open?' - the ideal answer would be 1833.

Guessing game pt. 3.. Also, this one is mentioned in NCERT..

Choosing between B and D since both are relevant to clothing in and around India. However, given that Khalat/Khilat is a robe worn by many in Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries, I would go with D as my final answer.

Answer is A.

Statement 2 is wrong - Virus is dependent of the host (plant or animal) cell for metabolic functions. When we talk of synthetic mediums, the trait of 'metabolic functions' does not occur because well, they are synthetic mediums, and not plant cells or animals cells - where metabolic functions can occur.

Statement 3 is wrong - Virus has two modes of transmission - biological and mechanical. In biological transmission, the virus replicates into more. In mechanical transmission, the virus does not replicate into more.

Hope this helps!

Edit- Even if you don't know jack about Viruses, this question can be solved using the extreme statements method. :P
