How many of you were able to solve these ques without knowing the answer?

This question was solved in a very easy manner by this youtube. I feel bad for not having it thought that way. There are many more questions like these. 

How to approach these?

Ancient, Medieval, Art and Culture - these questions are generally etymology based. 

If we don’t fear seeing the topic and are able to calm our nerves, then most likely chances are, it will strike us to the relevant theme/essence.

@SergioRamos i personally believe in this algorithm
‘thesis’ (dont fear the topic, even if we have not read it - leads to - calming the nerves - leads to - presence of mind - leads to - application of common sense - leads to Eureka Moment)

this thesis has to be followed by ‘anti thesis’ (reading through examiner’s perspective and UPSC’s lenses)

finally concluding to ‘synthesis’ based on consensus of above two.

Easier said then done, but if we go through UPSC PYQ, there are many questions doable this way,  precisely the ancient, art culture, because hindi words used here can always be broken into sub words which have their universally contextual meaning.

‘A’ can be the answer because

- head of military needs to be given some big honourable name

- Paik - should be foot soldiers because we have read Paika rebellion as 1st war of India’s Independence (contested), none other options suits Paik as much as foot soldiers
