@sjerngal fiscal and monetary policy variable were need to be neglected. In monetary policy you change repo rate, do omo etc. Fiscal policy involves changing corporate tax and income tax.
Through neither of these measures, you actually change the bond prices. They're adjusted automatically.

@sjerngal I checked, should be (A). Since no option has all of the above, need to go with prominent ones.

What all prev year papers are you referring to?

Is Vice President part of parliament?

NO

Why?

Wouldn't ex officio Rajya Sabha chairman be part of parliament?

Yes, He is a member of parliament as ex officio chairperson.

In the constitutional set-up, the holder of the office of Vice-President is part of the Executive but as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha he is a part of Parliament. He has thus a dual capacity and holds two distinct and separate offices.

https://rajyasabha.nic.in/Chairman-Rajyasabha/Ex-officio-position.htm

Good point. HOwever for all intents and purposes, if this question is asked in prelims - Parliament shall consist of the President and the two Houses ONLY.

I guess not. Since you're including the upper house in parliament, it automatically assumes the RS chairperson as its part.

High latitude forests store more carbon than tropical rainforests.

What is the reason for this?

I guess that due to soil carbon content. Pretty much everything is decayed in tropical forests thus most of carbon stored in tree is released back to environment once they're dead. While decay rate is quite low in temperate forest.

Any time efficient method for this?

4 in hundredth place has ->9*9=81 numbers

3 in hundredth place, 4 in tens place->9 numbers

3 in hundredth place, 4 in ones place->9 numbers

Total numbers->81+9+9= 99

@Steph_Curry Is this the answer?

The number of times 4 appear in one place(except 344 where 2 4s are there) between 300-399, the same number of them won't be counted between 400-499 as we will always have at least one 4.

So these both being complementary to each other, number would be same as count from 400-499 except removing 1 as we didn't account 344 earlier.

        Env laws and rules

2) Pol

        Preamble, FR, DPSP, FD thoroughly

I guess 2 questions were removed from calculation. Score out of 196 was scaled to 200.

Saying this because decimal digits aren't .33 or .66

But if we calculate 92.51/200*196  which comes out 90.6598    pretty close to what cutoff marks decimal must be. Still 90.66/196 is tooo low.

3.4k views

This feels like such a bummer this close to the exam. How can it possibly go this low?!

Even if it did, I was comfortably scoring above it as per various keys. Still didn't make the cut. Makes me second guess my capabilities for this exam. The answer key alone would be able to unravel this mystery. Meanwhile, I would keep running the various scenarios that could've played the spoilsport like marking the omr wrong etc. I definitely have no doubt about my csat performance so it's something with GS only.

Yesterday's forum open gave such a boost to my confidence and now, after watching the cutoff it dropped to even below the status quo ante.

Sorry guys just ranting here. Does anyone have any idea when would the answer key be released?

Wrong omr is definitely not the case. There are many people scoring 95-100 not getting through including you and me. Surely there would be many surprises in answer key.

@Shailputri  also, in que 58, the word "merely" is enough to mark the statement wrong. Religion in India is not "merely" a private affair. There are way too many caveats involved.

Rest, I believe have been answered well by others.

And even I marked the Strait of Malacca que wrong..

Yes. Doubts resolved.

Often we casually say marriage, religion, family are private affair unless it lands up in court. I took that too seriously. Nothing is private in India it seems. Not even when we have freedom of conscience, faith and belief. :D

Malacca one...as Villanelle pointed out rightly...qn mentions "around the strait" and not "between".

Fun fact- even your car on the road comes under public place :p
Just keep this in mind if you end up fighting with policemen as car being your private space and can consume alcohol.

What is the remainder when 51 x 27 x 35 x 62 x 75 is divided by 100?

(a) 50 (b) 25 (c) 5 (d) 1

how to solve this?

There is a multiple of 2 and 5 so the last digit would be 0. Now the only possible remainder for 100 can be 50.

The answer is (C).

Shouldn't it be D? Because Animal fats/ oils do contain trans-fats.

All the options are incorrect btw, trans fats are partially hydrogenated since they're still unsaturated fats. Hydrogenated oils which are saturated fats need not contain trans fat.  So saying non-trans fat food is not hydrogenated is wrong.

I can't check my score as I filled forest service too
3.3k views

According to the math, upsc has either dropped 2 or 9 questions. Watching such huge discrepancy, I won't doubt figure of 9. Earlier I thought it can be just 2 but such huge drop can't be explained by 2 questions only.

4.3k views
Did they scale the numbers to 200 after leaving out contentious questions. Coz mera number 106.35 hain! It's not possible normally!

106.35/200*196 will give you the correct decimal. Score this obtained would be your descaled marks out of 196.

Edit- it is coming .22 but when I did the same calculation on cutoff and other marks, it was coming out to be .00/.33/.66

Ok baby doll !!

.

@Rambo93 Maths is saying that.

See we get marks like 100,100.66 or 101.33 or 102.
Its always a multiple of 0.33 or to be exact, a multiple of 0.66

Select cutoff for any category and multiply it with 200/196.
The resultant will always be a multiple of 0.33 just like our normal marks.

If 3 Q were cut,u will have to multiply it with 200/194 which doesnt give a multiple of 0.33

U can try for other numbers as well.

So maths says 2 Qs r cut.

My guess-Gandhi Irwin pact and Current account deficit Question.

*196/200 :p

if it is gandhi-irwin and CAD then surely I was at disadvantage lol

Saturated fats are those in which no more hydrogen can be added as they have no double or triple bonds.

Unsaturated fats have double or triple bonds and more hydrogen can be added to it. To increase shelf life and save cost, company makes unsaturated oils by partially hydrogenating them but they are still unsaturated.

Also, saturated fats are less harmful compared to unsaturated or transfats.

Nooooo, saturated fats are more harmful compared to unsaturated fats.
