@tanvi_vats  sanctions by US means curb on using dollar and swift financial mode. It prohibits the said nation to use dollar as the currency of payment. Since maximum trade involves dollar as an international transactions, it becomes difficult to do transaction for nations. However it doesn't means that the said nation cannot do any economic transaction. Eg russia and Iran despite having sanctions, are able to grow their economy. The INSTEX mechanism was created by germany, UK, France to bypass the dollar mechanism.

Hope it provides a clarity over it !!

hi, could someone explain
a) what does "ordinarily resident" mean under citizenship act, 1955?
b) is there a difference between "ordinarily resident for xyz immediately before making an application" and "ordinarily resident for xyz before making an application"?
c) could someone confirm the definition of PIO?
According to A8 of the Constitution, a PIO is a person who, or either of the parents, or either of the grandparents were born in India according to GoI Act, 1935 and are ordinarily residing in a territory outside India. Lakshmikant defines it as either the person, or their parents were born in undivided India or in a territory which became a part of India after 15 Aug 1947.

thank you very, very much.

1) ordinary resident means non INDIAN residing in INDIAN TERRITORY (eg: for 11 years  before applying for citizenship)

2) NO as such there is no difference

3) As such PIO is not functional , they had been merged with OCI category by govt.

@oldrustyagain29523 yeah you have the values correct, but GCF of 28-29 means 28-29% of GDP and 32-33 would mean 32-33% of GDP. Since India’s GDP is much greater, GCF of India would be higher than GCF of Bangladesh.
Or am I making a simple error I’m not able to see here

See i would suggest to look into it the other way. If you are aware that Bangladesh is growing at much higher rate than India ...then it means the GCF formation is more of Bangladesh than India.

GDP is sum of goods and services produce. Using GCF/GCFC it produces both capital and consumption goods. Now the more capital goods is produced the more GCF / capital stock will be accumulated. This further surge the GDP. But the other way round is not true . Eg: GDP is increasing in nominal terms but GDP growth rate would be decreasing.

In short GCF is increasing then GDP will increase for sure but GDP increasing then it may be that GCF is not increasing that much compared to consumption goods production. You may consider the following relation GCF:Investment: capital goods produced

Can someone list any extra index in financial term

  • Financial Management Index
  • Fiscal Performance Index
  • Digital Payment Index
  • Digital competitiveness Index

If I miss any other ration do comment need to check these confusing index

4.3k views
@visionman Firstly the when global comparison is made there is uniformity as per global standards(mostly WB M not sure on this but there do occur standard). Second Economic growth values doesn't guarantee GCF formation. What I talked about is Economic growth rate not the nominal value. If the growth rate is increasing it is bound that there will be capital stock (including GCF formation) happening. Hence Investment.
One cannot take random numbers for comparison, hence concept of constant prices are there.

Doubt about the density of continental and oceanic crust-

page no 25, ncert, physical geography says that continental crust is made up of heavier rocks having a density of 3 g/cm3.

The mean density of oceanic crust is 2.7 g/cm3.

G.C.Leong on the other hand says quite the opposite. That is, continental is 2.7 and oceanic is 3.

What should be our response if a question asks us about which one is denser?

NCERT has a mistake in this regard. This has been pointed by many faculty . Oceanic is denser then continental.

I think its b. There is gross and net terms of trade. Gross terms of trade is the ratio of value of exports to value of imports. Net is about the volume of trade. For India both are -ve.

See TOT is what you have explained but its the export price / import price that is equivalent to statement third . Hence its C , i mixed it up with price and value .

@LetsGetThisBreadi think yes. earlier there was a limit of 6% on FPI investment in Gsec, but recently, on some specified gsec, rbi has eliminated the limit and 100% Foreign investment can be made

https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/money-and-banking/rbi-allows-nris-to-invest-without-limit-in-specified-g-secs/article31210175.ece

Still not quite there yet… 😬

wait read this

FDI is done in equity and shares . Now reason for FDI to come in a country is economic growth . THey want management control for decisions.

FPI's are for quick money making . They invest in both Debt papers,bonds/ Equity shares . WHy so beocz bonds me they can sell it as soon as they fetch higher price in market . Equity me they will get good return due to booming economic growth .

FPI invests in gsec's subject to 6% upper bracket and 2% in SDLs

Now you have confused me. Do we really have to make a difference as like FPI and FDI while talking about foriegn invetsments in g-secs. Foreign investment is foriegn investment. I think the difference b/w FPI and FDI is mainly due to the how much one invests in the company and would make no sense here. (10% or the above rule)

One more doubt : when talking about foriegn invetsments, are all the FPI's allowed to investment in G-secs w/o limit  or there is difference b/w NRI's and others.

Foreign investment in Indian , you may talk about the total foreign investment

When talking about Gsec its only FPIs , think naa how can you invest as FDI (equity one) in gsecs (which is a debt /bond instrument). There is difference between FDI /FPI ( company one which you have stated ) . here you can say FDI/FPI both can invest in equity / shares . however as debt / bond only FPIs can invest .

Yes all are allowed to invest but there is cap for non Indian . However the new scheme stated early as VRR route gives a room to increase the limit for FPIs to invest more than prescribed limit given few cavets. (No need to remember this for UPSC , but if ur interested to know just search VRR scheme for FPIs .)

Hope this helps. Also a suggestion if you get confused with above explanation just omit this discussion else you'll waste time . JUST read the basic concepts that would suffice for exam.  :)

Give suggestions guys, I have tried attempting some of the test. The recent ones. I attempt in the range of 40-45, get somewhere 5-9 incorrect. Score hovers's around 65-75 ( for 50 ques)

I don't know all the stuff, intelligent guessing is working, should I be happy I am scoring or I be sad that I don't know stuff. People who are attempting SFG tell me, do you guys are also making intelligent guessing? or you know everything.

How would you have solved this?

21st question is vague need not worry about it . Even if it comes you can leave

25th groundnut and oil imports are standard ( i believe seeing PYQs even if its not the answer/ its there as  options)

using this you can solve (as palm oil is the most ) again general view from survey no such specific thing top 3 of imports we shld see them . Seashum you might not know but since second statement is wrong you arrive to answer

15th : leopard is standard for prep wildlife species eg: lion/cheetah/tiger / one horn rhino/ elephant etc these you can prepare for UPSC . they do ask them

2.7k views

@sstarrr also always see PYQs if the type of question is asked . last 4-5 years you will get to see the pattern they are asking . observe that and stick to your plan . do not panic  in such questions . haan but leopard and groundnut one you can prepare and will be beneficial for sure in exam .

crops me : cotton/sugarcane/tea/coffee/wheat/jute/pulses /millets/jowar /apple/banana/groundnut if you prepare it will be helpful in exam either directly or through option elimination

Asset Reconstruction would just tend to take find potential buyers of the strained assets . It does not take over the control of the entire assets rather just facilitate the purchase.( in layman term you can equate them to real estate broker facilitating land sale/purchase). THE ARC take these Assets on discount and then resell. they do not take direct upfront NPA's.

BAD banks will just take over the entire NPA of PSB,s . Effect will be that PSB will recover entire amount upfront. While the Bad bank will suffer the loss of the NPA,s. Burden of NPA gets transferred to bad bank.

BAD banks will just take over the entire NPA of PSB,s . Effect will be that PSB will recover entire amount upfront. While the Bad bank will suffer the loss of the NPA,s. Burden of NPA gets transferred to bad bank.

Hope this helps.

@sjerngal

FROM VIVEK SIRS EXPLAINATION : THIS MIGHT GIVVE MORE CLARITY REG BAD BANK :

The above is news from Hindu. Following are some relevant points.

1) Govt. of India has created a "bad bank" named "National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL)". NARCL is owned by Government of India, which basically means NARCL/bad bank is a PSU.

2) Let us understand what the article is trying to say through an example:

Suppose SBI had earlier given loan worth Rs. 1000 crore and it turned into NPA.

So, SBI would like to sell this NPA/bad loan to the bad bank (NARCL) and recover the money and would like to focus on its banking business.

So, Bad bank will purchase this NPA from SBI but not in Rs. 1000 crore. The bad bank will try to estimate how much money it would actually be able to recover from the NPA and accordingly it would quote a price for it. If SBI also agrees then, SBI will sell this NPA/bad loan (paper) to bad bank, let us say in Rs. 300 crore. But the bad bank will not immediately pay in cash Rs. 300 crore to SBI. Rather, the bad bank will pay 15% of the agreed amount (of the Rs. 300 crore) i,e. Rs. 45 crore in cash and the rest 85% i.e. Rs. 255 crore in securities (a kind of debt paper). But what if the bad bank/NARCL in future does not pay the amount mentioned in the security ??  i.e. bad bank does not repay its debt of Rs. 255 crore.

So, as per the news article, Govt. of India has agreed to provide "Government Guarantee" on the securities that will be issued by the bad bank.

You may be wondering that why there is a need of Govt. guarantee, when the bad bank is already a Govt. company. You should know that a Govt. company can also default. Govt. of India is not legally bound to pay the liabilities of a Govt. company.

DIFFERANCE BETWEEN ASSET RECONSTRUCTON COMPANY AND BAD BANKS?

Asset Reconstruction would just tend to take find potential buyers of the strained assets . I think both of your statement are contradictry.

The name of the proposed bad bank in the name itself has ARC in it. So I don't think there is any such difference between the two.

Correct me if I am wrong.

see govt has addressed it ARC /BAD BANKS so now go with the current updated version of the statements. This means no difference as such. Earlier there was strict classification when ex-CEA arvind subramanium sir had proposed the concept of BAD BANKS.

SO yeah you are correct.
