Doubt Clearance Thread: UPSC 2021

Sorry i dont know where to post this, but,

prelims marks are out,

for the past year i have been cursing myself for screwing P1 but ultimately i came to know it was actually CSAT which screwed me.

Guys please dont ignore CSAt even if you are fairly confident.

All the best

PS: CSAT was 63.XX

To be honest its futile to count marks based on key supplied by coaching institutes, only upsc knows what goes on with answers especially with the paper like 2020.

strategy to clear CSAT based on previous knowledge has been a disaster for me in 2020, earlier more questions were asked from the passages (30-2019 to 24 -2020) while math questions increased proportionately.

Interspersed difficult math questions coupled with time pressure ensured i gave up even on the easier ones. Today looking at the same Paper feels like i could easily score 100+ with less dependence on passages.

Guys please help me regarding a couple of things , where do i read the following topics from/good sources etc

1. passages directives clearly explained along with examples

2. number series : like how do i know how many numbers are there whose squares have a difference of 63 (thats a bit difficult at the moment though without having a knack for it). or series ?

@AureliusM I think it's because "india is a union of states" not federation of states. So it's implied

@AureliusM fixed tenure as in for the period of so and so years...
Suppose judge X becomes SC judge at 62 years while Y becomes 63 years of age, then they still retire at 65 yrs of age, hence their tenure was 3 & 2 years respectively, which can't be called fixed " tenure" , age of retirement is fixed here.

Two tankers contain 850 litres and 680 litres of kerosene oil respectively. Find the maximum capacity of a container which can measure the kerosene oil of both the tankers when used an exact number of times

@Jurgen_klopp 0.25 foot
750/100 ,325/100 -taking hcf of numerators and lcm of denominators =25/100=.25 foot

so this was basically n HCF qsn ! *panic intensifies

I discovered that recently as well, until then I also did the way people have solved in earlier responses.

If u go through 6th maths ncert then it would appear to be a pretty regular question. I did it to basically re understand HCF and LCM, it won't take a lot of time and would boost confidence. So if u can pls go ahead and read it, I too did it about a week ago.
