Economics GS-3Help

I am starting my preparation for cse 2021 can someone please guide me in detail as to how should one prepare Economics for very good coverage of the syllabus.

Which books to refer what not to read from those books and what should be my order of priority among the subtopics keeping both prelims and mains in mind?

If you are willing to go for coaching, Mrunal sir and Vivek sir (Shubhra Ranjan) are very good. You can also refer Vivek sir's book (the latest edition) and see a few of his videos on SR channel.

All the famous books like Ramesh Singh, Shankar Ganesh, Mishra and Puri are good for building basics but lacking in the exam centric approach.

Another option - NCERTs.

Sriram IAS has also published a book for UPSC. You can refer to that book also. A lot of toppers have cleared the exam using Sriram notes.

Start with a book specifically recommended for Civils prep. You may choose anyone out of Ramesh Singh and SRIRAM'S IAS book. Apart from it, you have Niti Aayog's 'Strategy for New India @ 75' document which will cover many portions of GS III syllabus. Then you have Google and Vision IAS value added materials for specific keywords mentioned in GS III syllabus. You should also keep yourself updated with current economic news and issue for which you should follow any economic newspaper or at least economy page of The Hindu/Indian Express.

@lawliet I think it is a very good start and will help you answer 80%+ questions. After being thorough with this, you can then pick up enrichment sources like Vision IAS VAM or pick up new pieces from test series.

I had Economics as a subject in class 11 & 12, so I did not face any issues with the basic concepts. But since you asked me, these are my sources of economics for UPSC preparation.

1. Classnotes

2. Economic survey and Budget

3. NCERT class 11 (Indian Economic Development)

4. Newspaper (preferably Indian Express)

If you are facing problems in the basic concepts, do read a reference book like Ramesh Singh or Sriramias notes. I've read both, and found them good.

One advice: if you go through the newspaper, Just think for a moment, what have you studied about the concept in static portion, and try to think of the possible impacts or significance of the news.
