Factly#1025 India begins coral restoration in Gulf of Kachchh [27th January 2020]

Coral reefs are absent in the Bay of Bengal along the north-east coast due to large quantity of freshwater and silt brought by the rivers such as Ganga, Krishna, and the Godavari. As you know, corals require salt water to survive and require a particular balance in the sal to water ratio. They do not live in areas where rivers drain freshwater into the seas/oceans.
