Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

Guys! I have completed all GS papers. On the contrary, I felt that GS2 was best for me and underperformed in GS3.
GS4 few case studies were really tough for me but I still managed them with limited 2nd ARC, probity in governance knowledge I had in 3.5 pages to give an impression that I have sufficient content even faster hard time.
Sociology Paper2 I misread one question instead of democratic profile, read Demographic profile and wrote a detailed answer about population dynamics.

Really don’t know what to expect and what not to expect because in the end it will be relative performance of subjective papers.

@STIt was tough for sure. I was able to write GS type dynamic answers but Bringing a sociologist and sociological terms for inter linking of river like questions is neither easy nor required according to me. Rest only marks will tell.

@STI read that you have been getting consistently 280+ in sociology.
What do you think really working for you in sociology?

@Yes_I_am_ini know few who are claiming that!
Do you know any topper who claimed before hand (Before result) that he will get a top rank? I am yet to meet such a confident topper.

@sat_009It’s hard to believe but I have exact same scenario as far as GS is concerned.
Completed all Gs papers.
GS1 completed - Tried to address core points in most of the questions. So I believe it was better than what I expected.
GS2 - Wrote UNEsCO question in 2-3 minutes with hub and spoke directly dealing with the points.
GS3- Cyberdome wrote general answers on cybercrime mostly.
GS4 - Tried to maintain quality but due to paucity of time, last 2 quotes were done in a substandard manner.

@LonewolfNo expectations in terms of marks. But hoping ( Praying) for an interview call.

@Yes_I_am_inin this question, I also mentioned Abhiram case and SC verdict on RPA 123(3) regarding more grounds on disqualification.

1.7k views

@Yes_I_am_inNot written an essay on the case. Mentioned it in passing reference while discussing disqualification under RPA 123(3).
Not written out of context ofcourse.

@Yes_I_am_inCase se bhi provisions hi change hue hai.

1.7k views

@sat_009yes added lily Thomas too because it also led to change in provisions of disqualification only.

@TeddyWestsidefound it similar to standards of UPSC nothing less!

@TeddyWestsidedid you stick to word limit or pages filling because it’s Uppcs?

@Lonewolf
Defined vulnerability.
Types of vulnerability depending upon location, preparedness with few examples India. Then put argument around an equation I.e.Disaster = Hazard plus vulnerability plus non preparedness.
Concluded with Sendai and coalition of disaster resilient infrastructure to minimise vulnerability as value additions.

Found these compilations good to start with for interview preparation.
Anything more anybody can suggest from their past experiences?

@ManchesterUnited@sat_009How are you guys utilising your time these days? Considering you both are hopeful for an interview call?

Most of the people I interacted who were giving mains said that they have completed the papers ( except May be 1-2 questions across all GS papers.
Then don’t you guys think completion of paper is overhyped? Out of around 11000 people, I believe more than 7000 must be completing the paper ( somehow managing) with the training and practice we get while test series.

1.5k views

@ranyo_asokaNot 100. But must be 50 plus.
Also, look at forum quest only. Nearly all posting here are under that bracket only.
Anyway, I am not making any claim here. What’s the point you are trying to make?

@vvvikas0078212geography questions were more than social issues’ questions as far as I know.

@abhishek_plast year it was 20th December right?

1.4k views

@sat_009if you don’t mind me asking did you take any GS mains test series?

1.8k views

@sat_009and how much you used to score in test series? Did you follow IBC format in your answers in actual exam?

1.4k views

@sat_009okay.??

1.4k views

@TeddyWestsideI feel there are many many candidates who scored better than what they expected too. No wonder why Pratham Kaushik ( Rank 5, 2017) a guy who was in a mindset to skip exam 20 days before went on to score more than 500 in GS alone. So I believe after a point, we just can’t know.

@DKTHey, really got inspired with the kind of marks you shared for sociology. First of all, all the very best.
And secondly, what exactly you wrote for interlinking river projects, demonetisation types of questions in sociology paper 2?

@utkarsh_mishrahe has to go to institute as well. Wait for lunch break?

@sat_009I feel what is good and what is excellent or exceptional is just in our respective minds. For me - Excellent would be addressing questions with 5-6 points under different parts of question, a crisp introduction and a positive best practice/committee recommendation type of conclusion. I tried to do this in more than 14-15 questions per paper I feel but are they all excellent? I don’t think so. So coming up with a formulae for different years is mere generalisation according to me and might not depict true picture. Yes, I also understand that it fits the kind of experience and marks you got.

1.4k views

@azam-imame434you mean politician corporates and bureaucrats nexus right?

1.5k views

@DKTYou claimed that you have written most relevant answers and hence you are expecting a great score. One of those question you said is French securalism. Now if you have also written same examples which others have written ( and not NASA or some stupid Salman song) and also left around 250 marks paper...then I don’t how how under 50 rank is possible.
You call yourself MASTER OF SOCIOLOGY and still getting only 145 + 150 which is too low for a master in my opinion.
Feel free to dislike, criticise or abuse this comment as well because that’s best you can do.

@pmishra997125@DKTwill definitely tell with marksheet as he is not somebody who will give excuses of R2P and puttaswamy judgment. DKT bhai please batao free hokar.?
