@STnot at all buddy. 365 is over loaded with unnecessary content. See topper copies, you'll realize above avg content with consistency is the key. Stay relaxed, have good sleep and food during exams to produce the best of your knowledge. ATB.

Felt really dumb today, esp GS2. Feels like my knowledge and analytical skills are regressing with every attempt.

2.2k views

@visionmaneven if you take a side better to show the other side in opinion based questions. I disagreed with the statement but showed some positives too.

@Jyoti_k #meToo. Felt like my prep was hardly applicable to the paper

@White_Dustjust attempt everything. Write good essay thinking this is essay paper.. yes to second question

Damn, I already feel aimless in life. #rant

On a different note, people who are jobless and already gave 2-3 attempts - what are your plans now? I truly feel like I'm in a chakravyuh.

Based on my papers, I doubt if I'll get a rank this year even if i make it to interview. Want to give another attempt, but don't want to stay idle till march.

@Shubzis this exam crackable given the time?

@Lostyes bro. Even i want to be engaged in something. Starting to get tired of the process.

@Bodhgayadecent. Found it fairly straight forward. P2 felt easier than p1

@Omendon't think employment status and interview marks can be correlated (in my limited knowledge)

2.1k views

@Yes_I_am_insir you know that's not how it works. There are people with 260 in optional with a 200 rank. But they've done too well in GS.

270 is good to get an interview call if gs essay are reasonable. But tough to secure a rank. Considering you're from gen category. This year there could be additional 10m disadvantage if we are not EWS.

Honestly, we all need to sit back and wait for the result to know what is good and what isn't. Way too many variables. The worst of the variables is how UPSC changes it's marking pattern.. GS1 penalized last year. GS4 in 2017.

How do ocean currents and water masses differ in their impacts on marine life and the coastal environment? Give suitable examples?

Difficulty level of this question? I had no clue whatsoever.?

@ranyo_asokaI thought in the same way.. just extended the "air masses" concept ( air masses PYQ tha btw ).

But you seemed to have gone further to even substantiate it. Nice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_mass-- we seem to be close to what it is.

Differences, had to make up things like ocean currents are masses in movement.. cant recollect what other differences I made up. But felt very juvenile while doing it.

@RavsHistory better laga geograhy se.. maybe it's my stronger area. 1857 question not very happy.. dont think I could really make a link between early revolts and 1857. But baaki I found on easier side thankfully. Which question you found analytical in history?

Can the strategy of regional-resource based manufacturing help in promoting employment in India?

How did u guys approach this?

I first showed various resources on the map as an example. Then some history of how chota nagpur area ka resource use to build a strong basic goods industry post independence.

Then jumped into actual question of how few areas resources are under utilized.. say bamboo in NE. Couple of other such examples.

Also added at end that local resource isn't a constraint anymore to generate employment heavy industry thanks to how quickly raw material can be moved around< showing that the given question isn't the only way to go about >

Do we have cultural pockets of small India all over the nation? Elaborate with examples

Let me know your approach on this too.

I simply understood it as a question on cultural diversity and went about how there indeed are smaller microcosms of society based on factors of ethnicity, region, language etc. Gave examples. And finally added a point on how the small Indias are indeed a part and parcel of the whole.

I am afraid I addressed it in extremely simplistic way

@John_TitorOh, but this seems more on cosmopolitanism isn't it?

@STnothing to worry.. each of us here seem to have interpreted in our own way.. when the examiner creates his own term called "little India".. what other choice do we have?

Two large streams of thoughts here

  1. homogenous pockets of culture. Majority seem to go this way
  2. heterogenous intermingling

It can't be both. So one group to be hit. No one will ever know which group?

1.9k views

@Raja123exactly.. this is one line of interpretation. You are basically saying India is a salad bowl ( different veggies mixed together, no one veggie having it's own special place in the bowl) Let's look for those smaller salad areas (heterogenous) in a bigger bowl

Other thought is India is a thali.. with different katoris for each sabzi. Each katori being a small India, but homogenous inside that katori.

I'm revising my own opinion where i said only one can be right. In our country we have a mix of both happening. Maybe someone who integrated both these ideas will stand out?

Hope I'm making sense.

@ranyo_asokathese institutes ka test series model answers are so so bad when they themselves frame a subjective question. Only factual questions they come up with decent answers

@ranyo_asokaHaha alright brother?

@K_9Some unsolicited advice on seeing your "depression aur ho jaata hai".. There is no point succumbing to emotions after the exam is over. Fact is that only some 400 odd people will not write mains again of all the people who have given it is year.

Abhi memory fresh hai. I personally think it is important to reflect upon exam performance.. preparation mistakes and everything else. These detailed analysis and discussions will immensely help IMO.

1.9k views

@K_9Novel points are built up over a course of time only. This can be a part of the that.

Regarding Tina Dabi clearing.. no comments. Each of us have our own journey honestly. Anyway no point discussing whether one should reflect or not. It was an unsolicited advice.?

Q4. From the resolution of contentious issues regarding distribution of legislative powers by the courts, ‘Principle of Federal Supremacy’ and ‘Harmonious Construction’ have emerged. Explain

How difficult was this question for you guys? Harmonious construction I have heard of the idea but didn't exactly know what it meant. Rest was ok. What did you guys feel?

1.9k views

@Vikayes bro. These are principles for deciding which legislative subject falls under whose ambit.

@Caesarthanks.. certainly no way anyone would have written them. Good improvisers are the winners here

@parismy expectation based on last year timeline.. Not before a gap of 35 days.

1.6k views

@Dreadfulwhat is the hurry to give just about ~15 days. Last year final result was 2 months before pre 19, mains result declared on dec 20.

This year say jan 10th, it's only 20 days delay. I just expect the time b/w final result and pre 2020 will become lesser rather than any drastic change in the rest of timeline
