@Champakmy view was the same after seeing gs2 (infact all of the papers but gs2 was very explicit in the message). But I was only guessing. I don't know what my result will be but I think we need to appreciate atleast some body is making efforts not to be a feeder to coaching industry, unlike ssc and banking exams.
@Chacha420last year i didn't write more than 3-4 scholars in paper 2. Part B mei toh sirf ek hi likha tha. Still got 168. Scholars are hyped. Although iss saal maine likh diye kuch because questions bahut jyada hi specific lag rhe the aur relevant content likhna mushkil pad rha tha. Expecting much lesser marks this year
@Chacha420bhai sab faaltu ki baatein hai, mai kuch bhi bol sakta hoon, log maan lenge. But mera personal opinion toh yhi hai ki jiski kismat acchi hoti hai usko mil jaata hai. bas ekdam faaltu cheeze na likho, baaki bhagwaan ke hawale. jaise ki yeh RPA act pe jo discussion chal rha, jinhone court case likhe unko number milenge, jinhone nhi likhe unko bhi milenge. Either of them ko nhi bhi milenge. Hence, jo bhi likha hoga theek hi hoga sochke khush rho result aane tak. frankly speaking mai toh 130 se jyada nhi expect kar rha tha uss paper mei. I don't know kaise check karte hai yeh log. Schools of thought IR ke kaafi use kie the, but unse bhi mujhe nhi lagta kuch special effect padta hai.
@Chacha420@sernihilopaper 2 mei 3 questions kis section se kiye the?
@sernihilosection A se. mai exam se pehle hi mann bna ke gya tha ki A se hi karne hai. but in hindsight i think ki shayad section b se acche rehte. iss saal unexpectedly easy aaye uss section se.
@sernihilohaan yaar, yeh bimstec, nam summit pta nhi kya likhna tha
@Akkkukya tha essence marxism aur globalisation waale question ka? mai bhi toh yhi likh ke aaya hoon. robert cox aur aur wallerstein bhi ghusa dia tha. basically marxist theory hi likh di poori. pta nhi kya likhna tha isme.
@Lonewolfwoh nhi kia maine. but muje aisa lag rha tha ki saare marine related questions mei india's vision of indo-pacific hi likhna hai. whi free, open, inclusive, zone of peace, rules based order waali bakaiti. itne specific questions karne mei waise hi darr lagta hai. i think isi specificity ki wajah se paper hard ho gya. but personal experience kehta hai paper1 pe marking tight hoti hai aur 2 mei lenient. let's hope for the best
@sat_009last year seats mei drastic drop hua tha, I think isliye cutoff jyada drop nhi hua
just a question in general. I have now given 2 mains with PSIR optional. In my first attempt(2018) managed to score very well(309), this year's result awaited. The score may increase or decrease. But it's a fact that they don't give more than 325 in PSIR. But in 2018 the highest in antro was 362 (highest among all optionals)! And the candidate scoring it had studied it just for about 5 months. Also, the exalted focus on overlap of PSIR with gs is also unwarranted I believe as the variation of marks in gs is not much, moreover so much depends on the whims of the evaluator. Yes it does save time, but I think now I have already learnt enough PSIR that could be used in gs and hence on that aspect it holds very little utility for me.
So, should I switch over to anthro? I am good at memorizing things and have fair amount of biology knowledge.
Would also like to mention that I have to join railway academy (Vadodara) in December. I was planning to undergo training while simultaneously prepare for 2020 attempt, if I don't get desired rank this time. I was quite comfortable with the idea because 3-4 hours of free time would be enough I believed. But should I change optional, I think it would get difficult to manage. Also taking EOL from service would mean no salary for a year (6 months if I get desired rank in 2019 itself), which I direly need. Asked an institute after 2019 mains if they would be able to give me some work, they replied they are looking for more permanent commitment.
What should I do? Please recommend. Please forgive asking such questions on this forum but I could not think of anything better.
@vvvikas0078212haan score toh accha tha but no guarantee that I would be able repeat it. Improvement ka scope toh bahut hi kam hai. Subject ki subjectivity also does not allow it to be trustworthy. GS ke jaise papers aa rhe hai samajh nhi aa rha kaha focus karoo. Mujhe lagta hai har saal aise hi ulte-seedhe surprises ka amount bas badega hi ab.
Ab rank improve karke iss khel ko khatam karna hai bas. Mai bas yeh nhi chahta baad mei indecison ka regret reh jaaye.
@Ragsiss baar ka score pta chalne se pehle toh forms bhar jaayenge
@sat_009@Rags@Dijkstrathanks yaar. specially@sat_009for the figures and insider insight. Mujhe toh lagne lga tha anthro mei bas ratta maar lo aur ekdam top score mil jaayega. I realise now ki PSIR waali uncertainity to har subject mei bni rahegi, phir chahe woh ekdam objective kyo na ho, maths jaisa. Anthro toh phir bhi thoda jyada subjective hai. Thanks
@Ms-dhoniyaar I wasn't really thinking much while writing answers as I wasn't able to complete the syllabus. In paper 1 I got 141 and 168 in paper 2. I mostly used theory of ir to write answers in both parts, as far as I can remember since my specific knowledge about topics was wanting.
as for this year, I think paper1 part1 was similar to last year, part2 was much easier than last year. Paper2 part2 was much harder than last year while part2 was easier, though it was very specific, but not hard I believe (some 10 markers were a real nuisance though).
overall, I think paper was easier this year but my score may drop because I could find lollipop questions in paper 2 this year (asian values and soft power questions were kind of lollipop last year). However, I feel paper2 was hard for all people, so finally the score should not vary much if there is any standarisation of marks in an optional with marks of last years. However, subjectivity in evaluation is always an issue.
@Ms-dhoniyes I wrote many gs type answers, particularly 10 markers. I used many scholars this time, though I didn't want to because last time I didn't (to be true, pta hi nhi the) and still got 168. Wanted to stick to my tried and tested method but iss baar content jyada likh nhi paa rha tha, isliye scholars se pad up karna pda. Upar se iss saal 20 markers ke liye paper 2 mei bhi 4 page de diye, last year 3 hi the. Iss wajah se bhi kaafi kachra accommodate karna pad gya. lekin 10 markers jyadatar gs type hi hai, itne specific topics ke liye scholars nhi pta. Although kahi kahi kisi theory se connect kar diya
@sernihilonhi yaar, 10 markers I did lot of hawabaazi. They were too specific. My strength is IR theory, yeh specific cheeze aati nhi mereko jyada. I have not rewritten the answers, but brief outlines of what I wrote for different questions I shared on the PSIR discussion thread. I realised most of the students have written on similar lines. I think you too were on that thread, weren't you?
@Lonewolfit was nice. Part B was better than last year. Part A mei ek 20 marker mei hawabaazi kar dia. But last year jitna a usse thoda jyada hi expect kar rha hoon.
@DKTaapka 2018 mei essay score kya tha?
@Lonewolfpart A
@Deltaab ias milna aur mushkil ho gya, he bhagwan!!
it's very clear. government does not want ias, ips or other permanently employed, sercurely salaried civil servants. it wants to move in the direction of lateral entry, while at the same time cut down the staff since that tends to make the work complicated and is an extra burden on public purse. there's far too much deadwood in bureaucracy. only sad thing is that we are first ones to face the vacancy cuts.
@foxmulderhaan yaar yeh toh hona hi chaiye. agar government yeh declare kar sakti ki total seats kitni hai toh I think yeh bhi declare kar sakti hai service-wise break up kya hai. Koi instance pta hai kya jab kisi ne yeh info result aane se pehle access karne ki koshish ki ho? Jaise ki RTI, court ya CAT?
@ranyo_asokaobc ke consistent hai 27% reservation ke hisaab se. Sirf UR ke ghate hai. baaki sabke more or less same hai. I mean prior to EWS quota unko jitne milte the utne hi hai atleast for ias, ifs and ips. obc ke last year ke comparison mei 40 seats jyada hi hai overall.
@sernihilosame for ias and ips. 6 seats for ifs compared to 9 last year, but that's because ifs seats got reduced from 30 to 24. 39 more than obc across all services.
@Chacha420last year mai bhi aise hi sapne dekha karta tha. Tumko all the best, foreign secretary.
@TeddyWestsidemere dimag mei bhi sabse pehle yhi thought aaya
@STI wasn't least expecting it last year, but got through eventually
@Hartshorne809
actually, I don't think more than 15% of the people giving mains would be from EWS. 50% were already from reserved categories. And out of the rest, some were disqualified, as some people mentioned. Still more have now been moved into the general category. Getting an EWS certifificate would have been very difficult so fast, more so where government departments are inefficient. Mostly the handful people of influence in their localities would have managed. Their selection (not necessarily IAS, but name in the list), I think is etched in stone now.
@Asli_hai_sabyeh kya hota hai?
@AplharomeoI heard now UPSC isgoing to sub-contract evaluation work to vajiram.
@Aplharomeovajiram did predatory pricing. They offered to do it for free. Only their people are gonna be selected. You can verify it later when vajiram uploads its results.
