Mains 2022 - All Papers PDF + R**** Rona + Paper Discussion

@mvp I guess paper 2 of almost every optional looked easy after seeing the paper at first but while writing it felt weird and twisted.

@MasterMind Exactly, question choices were also very difficult. Structuring was the main issue in questions related to SEZ, IRNSS, Groundwater contamination in urban areas, and linguistic states emergence. Some 10 markers were very GS-type questions.

@MC Cullum one paper will not make much difference if you have done well in other papers. In my case, all the papers went bad compared to last year except Optional paper 1 and GS 3.

@captainhaddock Time management was the real issue for me in the optional paper. I found almost all the 15 markers very lengthy

how many questions out of 118 did you people attempt ? i left 2 in ethics, 2 in gs 1 and 1 in gs 2 (that French president one)... ..... worried about it ! ..but i wrote high quality answers in rest with proper structure and all.

You will get into the top 10 ranks if you have written high-quality answers with proper structure in the rest of the answers (113 questions) even with an average score in the interview.

Anyone appearing for Ifos Mains 2022 with Agriculture as optional?
6.1k views

Left one case study in ETHICS paper and a Sub part in another case study

Left one 10 Marker in Geography Optional Paper 1.

Rest Attempted all.

But guys i have one big query : As Time passes by, i get points in my mind and then thinking like i should have done that and this and this keep running in my mind. Do everyone get like these?? Coz as i get more points now, feeling like i wrote poorer quality answers than i should have given

In my previous attempt (2021)

1) Just after Mains got over: I felt I did very well

2) After one month: I felt I have done enough to at least clear the Mains cut-off. With each passing day, I had the same experience you are having now.

3) Just before the result: I felt I had 50-50 chances.

Final result: Couldn't clear by a small margin but it was mainly due to optional where preparation was weak. In GS, scores were above average despite missing out on so many important points as it is all relative

Everyone goes through it. After 2 months you won't even remember what you have written on those sheets.

@Panchayat 745 was last year. this year seats have increased+ gs4 which is one area where average marks rise was the lengthiest this year. cutoff will come down than 745

Kitna hi kam ho jayega? I don't think it will go below 730 in any case as people who appeared for Mains also increased this time.

@Capedcrusader1 i may be 100% wrong about this but this mad craze about finishing the paper costed me my two previous mains...this time i decided i am gonna do 18 questions per gs paper but i will write quality stuff..make structure..draw diagrams etc...i left 6-8 questions in all papers combined but i wrote very nicely (or so do i think).. let's see if this costs me again or works in my favour.

Nice approach, if one has above average/good content for at least 14/18 questions.

Only for GS

Above Average Answer (50% marks)
Average (40%)
Below Average (30%)
Wrong interpretation of question (0)

Most of the answers generally fall in Average and Below average category.

Above Average answer should have proper structure, precise points, relevant examples and most importantly meet the exact demand of the question.

@morty one should only compromise on intro and conclusion if there is very less time left to complete the paper in the exam hall. The introduction and conclusion give us chance to showcase some facts, articles, international treaties, committee recommendations, etc. If every other person is doing that then it makes his/her answer "look" better.

@Panchayat I felt that except for Essay, GS3 and Optional Paper 1, all other papers were difficult compared to 2021 Mains. Many 15 markers were lengthy with some questions very random and factual thus requiring more time to recall and write in exam conditions.

So you are suggesting that using concepts of optionals is not a good idea?

Yes that’s one of the cardinal sins I learnt.

examiner may feel like that you are showing off on the wrong day.

Some toppers (Example: Ira Singhal Ma'am) also in the past highlighted this issue where the examiner may give you less marks for showing off your optional knowledge in the essay.

we can list the questions in gs papers that will not be making much difference this year ..questions like color coding and primary rocks in gs 1...cellulose in gs 3 .. French president and disability act in gs 2 etc.

I can't say about others but for me I found these questions moderate to difficult to write in exam conditions

1) GS 1 (2nd part of primary rocks question (Types), Lion and Bull figure, Specific Sects of regions and caste, Globalisation and Technology)

2) GS 2 (Disability, Case law of question 11, French presidential election, Donor agency, I was also facing difficulty in recalling the DC Wadhwa case so made a mistake there)

3) GS 3 (Cellulose, Gothenburg protocol, Unique features of James Webb Telescope, I was facing difficulty in differentiating between basic principles and working of vaccine)

Apart from these, I felt questions like Isthums & Colour coding were also tricky but I was able to attempt them with decent content as the isthmus question was somewhat covered in 2 questions of the optional test series and I remembered that one of the colors was orange so got lucky there.

Is there anyone here who found the geography optional paper simpler this year?

Paper 1 was easier than last year.

Paper 2 was on similar lines. I feel that choosing the right questions is the key to scoring well this year.

I don't know whether it is the case with others too but I felt that both the papers were lengthy compared to last year.
