Anyone with Anthro

Is anthro really short ? like how much is syllabus in comparison of PSIR ?

PSIR is one of the lengthiest imho if not the lengthiest among all.

Anthro short?! Whaaaaat? It has one of the lengthiest syllabus out of all the optionals. And combine that with lot of rote memorization. Further every topic has separate set of thinkers. In general thinkers of one topic cannot be used in other topics. So lots and lots of memorization. It's not an easy subject at all.

In GS 2, How many of you knew the relevant Case laws??? For Q1 (10M)

In Geography Optional, How many of you knew 1a in Paper 1 Section A : About Speleothem?? I didn't attempt it as i had no clue about it. Was it difficult question for others too ??

For GS2 Q1, I mentioned MC Mehta case and that it brought the doctrine of absolute liability(don't know if it's completely relevant here), TN Godavaraman case - Continuing mandamus concept was devised, Art 21 and under it various rights that have been given and the recent ESZ notification of Supreme Court. This is all that came to my mind then. Should have written GRAP in NCR too.

Some info from a reliable source. (Fake news)

1) GS 4 marks have come down while GS-3's have increased. (Can't say how much exactly).
2) cut off is around 15 marks more than last year
3) optional marks have only increased by around 10-15 marks.
4) Literature, maths, Anthro and unorthodox optionals have performed well. (Don't know about rest)

P.S. can't say if this will turn out to be 100% true but the source is very reliable and a friend of mine.  I have shared what I received.

Fake news or reliable?

Please share how you were able to clear mains finally. Would be really helpful.

I focused heavily on value addition this year. In all the papers. My major focus was to support my points with facts, figures, data. I had this preconceived notion previously that facts etc were only required to be memorized till prelims stage. This time, just rattafied all data, examples, committees etc and used them liberally throughout the paper.

+1

Also pls tell about anthropology - choices attempted, good/unique points that you have written that fetched marks and the answers that you have not written well.  (Icouldn't clear this year mains)

In Anthropology again, memorized definitions and who gave those defintions. Collected examples, case studies etc from various places.

Eg - in the question on modernization effects on health, I used a graph I had noted down from Relethford's book on Biological anthropology that documented the effect of modernization on Blood pressure on inhabitants of Gilbert island.

In the question on different types of social control in different political systems, just copy pasted around 10 different types as given in Ember and ember.

In paper 2, relied heavily on Mandar patki notes as they are quite dense with names of various scholars. Also collected some material from IGNOU especially related to tribal movements. Also used some case studies, data points from Xaxa committee report.

Made notes and just memorized all the important points and definitions by heart. My paper 2 was better than paper 1 I felt. Even in general question types I tried to put scholar names and books. This can happen however only if you have comprehensive notes and have revised and memorized them over and over again.

Some answers I couldn't write well. Eg In paper 1, participatory rural appraisal, domestic groups - skipped this topic because based on PYQs I thought it was an unimportant topic. Then shamanism witchcraft question also was attempted poorly because I skipped it for the same reason as above.

In paper 2 10 markers were well attempted, I was able to answer both part 10 markers in 50 mins. However got stuck in proto history of Gujarat question and spent 25 mins on that and still poorly attempted. Christianity question was also a little flimsy at best.
