Did u read the hindi version of essay during exam?Hi all,
This is my first post. Since the mains exam, one thing has been going in my head regarding the essay paper.
In section B, I attempted the 8th question - "Just because you have a choice, it does not mean that any of them has to be right".
Contrary to the Hindi translation of 'right' i.e. 'sahi' , I interpreted 'right' in the fundamental rights, etc. context. I defined choices and rights.Rights - as claims of individuals against state. Choices - as decision making, speech, practicing religion, etc.
I just want to know if anyone else has done the same. I began the essay with the Anuraddha Bhasin case, where the Supreme Court has allowed the 'choice' of using internet as a right for freedom of expression & profession, but fell short of recognising it as a fundamental right itself. Thereafter, I explored 3 broad headers:
- "not all choices can be rights"
- "some choices have to be rights"
- "There's need of a balance between choices, rights & responsibilities."
Would UPSC allow such interpretation of the question? Any inputs are appreciated.
- Not all choices can be rights
yar but in all seriousness, this is so not done. what if someone actually doesnt understand hindi??
Jo non-Hindi hai, unko bhi kahi kahi advantage milta hai, toh kul milakar sab cancel out ho jaata hai.....if one is interpreting right as entitlement, then he/she must think about the simpler meaning.....waise bhi essay ko ethics ke paper ki tarah lena hota hai.....especially B section ko...........ab toh khair UPSC a section essay me bhi philosphical question puchhta hai.....even forest wala essay bhi kai log galat likhe honge....jabki wo philosophical essay tha...........(survival of the fittest, punctuality, ecological niche.....etc etc)

forest wala philosophical tha? case study wagera mentioned h.
aur bhai non hindi walo ko kaunsa advantage h
upsc case studies word use toh kiya tha English me...lekin hindi me word pratiman use kiya tha jiska meaning hota hai model..... toh uss essay me philosphically ye show karna tha ki kya kya lesson forest se milte hai jo economic excellence ki taraf le jaate hai....
@deepakY bro mujhe UPSC me essay kaise likhna hai aj tak samjha nahi. I have maintained essay as per GMAT guide.Started essay with NOKIA case study, ek time baap tha, did everything write, but failed. In fact ceo of Nokia roya ye bol k.. hum sab sahi kare par , Lanka lag gayi.Phir cheda vivad, apke hisab se chize sahi hogi. Par vo galat hoti hai..Mai ecological view diya. For example kisi ko agniveerr 2.0 😁sahi lag raha ho.. par vo jaruri nahi india me sahi ho ( agniveer na likha mai bas bata raha idea)Phir choices ko decision se link kiya.. kaise banks k executive choices nahi lete.. because ki baad me media and CVC se bache..aur vo economy affect kar rahe.At even nHAI ke executive ko nitin gadkari sahab gali mare, for not taking decisions.Decision or choice hona jaruri hai.. chahe ho galat ho ya sahi.. decisions hi admi and institutions banate..Agar hum decision and choice rakhne se dare.. to kabhi koi decisions na hoge..Conclusion take decisions you should be proud of rather it's outcome...choice may be wrong but choices are necessary.Ye bas idea hai...itna ganda na likha mai..meri bhawna samaj jao.. ye bas idea line samaj lo..Ab ispe 80 marks mile ya 58/2 😅Meko ghanta farak na padta..
aise kaise analyse kar paate ho aap log deviate hoke main line se..........essay me simple ye tha ki choices kaafi hote hai , lekin ye jaruri nhi hai ki unme se koi na koi sahi ho hi..........toh isme means, ends, circumstances beyond control ye sab likhna tha.......IMO
@Capedcrusader1 non hindi wale ko answers likhte time jyada nhi sochna padta hai...non-hindi states ke bache english me kaafi quickly produce kar paate hai thoughts ko...aur market me material ki quality english language ki kaafi achhi hai..
"non hindi wale ko answers likhte time jyada nhi sochna padta hai"
"non-hindi states ke bache english me kaafi quickly produce kar paate hai thoughts ko"
Bro, thats not the case. :)
That might be a positive stereotype. But not true.
There is no difference in hindi, non hindi people in terms of thought process or writing in English.
translation lag is always there. however quantum of lag varies
@Panchayat yes circumstances are nothing but ecological view.. broMai upar likha hu..ecological view... Matlab ecology pe sab depend hota..
At even nokia analysis ecological view pe hai.. duniya Android ja raha tha.. ye nokia windows pe laga tha... Sab ecology hai bhaiya
haan nokia wala example circumstances without control ke liye fit hai........
although i didn't attempt that scientific man, romantic man question, I would love to have insights for this essay from the peers who attempted this....kaafi tough lag raha tha ye essay, proper example hi samajh nhi aa the the...read somewhere that Enlightenment is more associated with natural science while romanticism is more closely linked with arts and humanities. aise me toh ye quote humanities ko low pedestal pe rakh raha aur natural science ko high pedestal par...scientific mean is self explanatory. but its not just man and its not just scientific. it about rationality and logic. and its about countries and leadership being open minded. romanticism is about sensationalisation and being driven by emotions. it has to do with setting goals based on delusions not founded on any rational basis.
russia's invasion on ukraine is based on restoring a lost territory in order to re-establish former ussr.this is bizzare and driven by romantic mindset.
however romanticism is also needed. it provides eenergy for action. eg elon musk going to mars. he wishes to colonize it.
we need to reconcile the two as both are needed. humans have limitless abilities and his thought process is very complex as it is most evolved.
india specific content is also needed which i put
good....content and line length overall...appreciable..
Did anyone write the essay on the smile topic? If yes then what all did you cover?
long long years ago, Herman Melville faced the viva-voce board in his engineering college. He was very tense because of inadequate preparation. When the first roll no. student came out of viva room, perplexed Melville asked her how to tackle the board, the student replied- "Just smile if you don't know the answer. "
Melville internalized this trick and passed all successive viva voce with flying colours. After Graduating, he wrote this book as his Ph.D thesis and the rest is history.
*Godi Media will never tell about this and some will say it's a cooked up story.
@Panchayat mai to likh hi na Pau ispe essay.. likh bhi lu to artificial hi ayega content..jaise taise 1000 words ka jugad.. jisne ispe likha usko mera salam
shayad hi koi likha hoga........aur likha bhi hoga toh justice word count aur demand ke saath nhi kar payega.........toughest essay tha ye....
How many of you believe in the argument that UPSC deliberately keeps the exams lengthy to ensure that candidates are forced to write from their subconscious and what they have internalised. Or is it one of the narratives peddled by UPSC apologists to justify anything and everything that the holy cow does.
1.UPSC deliberately keeps the exams lengthy to select the ones who can handle pressure cooker situations.
2. Though It wants that candidates write the answer in their own language with subconscious knowledge, the no. of questions and sub-questions are so many that in that much limited time bookish language always has an advantage bcz one can't frame a proper logically coherent answer in those situations which resembles a glorified writing speed test.
3. UPSC is a holy cow. No matter what examiners do with the students, it's the students which are always at the receiving end. No one questions the paper setter.

@Panchayat its biggest myth pahle language paper check hote.. all paper get checked. But language failed candidates k marks release na hote.Upsc don't disclose because awesome marks in mains and guy failed in language will result into public outcry. So they just don't disclose marks of language failed candidates to avoid later controvercies.
Roughly 10 percent people get failed in language, thus waiting for that 1 candidate later check copies of other 9 passed candidate is not operationally possible. Ek candidate extra check karna koi badi baat nahi..

Yaar...ek English ki paper check ki hui thi UPSC ke kai exams ki...service training me wahi bata rahi thi...compulsory paper sabse pahle check hote hai

I don't think 10% would fail in compulsory language papper...I don't thik 1000 students can flunk in this test.
Anyone with Anthro
Is anthro really short ? like how much is syllabus in comparison of PSIR ?
PSIR is one of the lengthiest imho if not the lengthiest among all.
kyu bhai Maths and engineering optionals nhi hote kya UPSC me....
leaving them i was talking about humanities and tbh they need practice more (that is why lengthy) and engineering ones esp are not that long against the established myth.
In PSIR over my attempts i found so much to read b/w pre and mains
हाँ , वैसे तो काफी डायनामिक है सोशल साइंसेज के ऑप्शनल्स। ...
@rockhard yeah. Thatz what i am trying to tell. Completion doesn't guarantee marks. Quality answer matters i think.
yes, quality matters a lot since. bluffing will give a wrong impression..0.5,1, 2 no. ke chakkar me baaki sab questions ke quality kharab aur scoring kharab ho jaate hai...
