Maths Optional group for UPSC CSE 2022

To have a group of maths optional students to discuss "doubts" of questions, and other such stuff related to maths.we could maybe do subjects together so as to solve each other's doubts or just solve doubts or, just be there in the group. Make maths your strong point.

May this be ours last attempt.

P.S. I recently started(re) with ODE.

Hello. I'm yet to give any mains so take things that I mention with a pinch of salt. I'm sure there are other more qualified people, just putting in my thoughts.

Revision has to be done considering two components, the theory portion and the problems. For the theory portion, IMS notes are more than sufficient. If you have made short notes out of them, even better (check Kanishk Kataria Sir's notes to get an idea).

Now, for the problems, I think IMS notes again are important but there are more things that we have to cover too. The idea should be to create a question bank of problems that you find difficult/keep getting wrong. This needs to cover the IMS notes, PYQs and preferably one test series. You can do books too but I haven't found the courage yet. Keep solving, mark important questions and then note down the marked questions. Once you have a question bank, you don't need to go back to the base material.

All the best :)

@Archand thank you for your response.
at some point I may forget basic questions like finding basis and dimension or say steps to find shortest distance between lines. What needs to be done for that? Revision from IMS or make question bank for them also?

Don’t worry. This happens to a lot of us, specially if you’ve done lesser rounds of revision. The idea is to try and replace the IMS notes with your own short notes and question bank. I have noted some easy questions as illustrations along with the theory of such topics.

Okay. Thank you that was helpful indeed.

Hi, can anyone throw light upon how can I cover fluid dynamics and mechanics from 10 marker point of view? Like the stipulated time I should allot to it and any specifics resource to cover it? I am thinking to save time in fluid topic and invest more in RA and MA so as to attempt the 2 of 3 elective questions from section A of paper 2. Is this the right strategy or too risky ? :P

@Blind guy mcsqqueezy If you are writing 2021 - Don't spend your time on MA. It's  risky. RA and Calculus are mixed, so no extra effort is required for RA. Stipulated time - only you should decide. Sources are krishna series and M.D Raisinghania xerox attached with IMS notes. In first reading, rather than selecting topics, go through all the topics. You mind knows whether a solution is straight forward or counterintuitive and require extra effort. For questions that require extra effort, leave it. Some mechanics questions can be solved through your IIT prep. Some fluid questions can be solved through DE knowledge and some formulas. The key is to practice easy questions in all topics. You may leave both and focus on what you have already done. Don't worry. Not much scaling in paper 2.

If you are writing 2022 - questions are mixed from different topics. There's nothing like 10 markers point of view. Love the topics.

N.B. I flunked year after year in Maths.
