Hi! I don't have much info on you but I'll make an attempt to help you.
Although it would be helpful if you gave more info like how many attempts you gave and how far you went in those, what have you tried to help yourself so we can see any changes are required in them or explore other options.
Good: 1. You want to continue this journey
2.You understand there's much to improve
3. You are asking for help
4. You want to study
Bad: 1. You are frustrated
2. You have lost motivation
3. You have lost vigour
Ugly: 1. You have stopped studying
2. You can't find yourself in position to study.
Studying is the only way forward and you realise it too. What matters most in clearing this process is that you score good marks in the written exam and personality test. Stopping study is neither helping you to gain any more knowledge, revise, practice writing answer nor such attribute help you in your personality which is crucial in facing the interview. Understand this!
Time is a precious resource. It's better to utilise it when you have it in present. No one knows what might happen tomorrow. Some problem may arise which would require your attention and you might not get time to study.
Not being able to find yourself in the mood to study/ can't concentrate on is normal. You gave pre, you failed and until you take lessons (what went wrong? didn't attempt enough questions? didn't revise adequately? didn't cover enough topics? ) and move on from it, every moment is going to put you on crossroads where you'll have to decide between giving up, wasting time or going back to preparation mode. ( Don't become a prisoner of your mind ) You can try a few things to go back to study:
1. Assess why you ever started this? and what will you gain from this?
Is it your family's reputation?
Your own prestige?
Because it's a good job with power and position?
Because you understand you have a noble cause and after becoming a civil servant you can make efforts towards it?
marriage prospects will be improved?
You can become a role model and people will look up to you?
establish contacts with high powered individuals?
something else?
or a combination of them?
I would suggest you write it down on a page and stick it somewhere so you can frequently glance at it.
or you can try what Gandhiji said, "Recall the face of the poorest and weakest man you have seen, and ask yourself if this step you contemplate is going to be any use to him"
And maybe you will help many such people after becoming an officer but you need to become one to come across such an opportunity.
Since you're frustrated I would suggest you ask questions
what is the cause of this?
Was it your failure?
are you not sitting in an environment suitable for studying?
is it because it's monotonous to keep on reading things, highlighting, making notes?
too much to study and too less time?
boring subjects?
or all of the above?
Find out what it is, keep a calm mind and think what will help you to overcome. Use your emotions to fuel it. These could be desire, suffering, pain, FOMO etc.
You can try using "If....then" kind of logic.
Eg. If I want to lose weight then I have to start exercising.
If I have to start exercising then I have to make time for it.
If I want to clear pre, then I have to clear cutoff.
If I want to clear cutoff then I have to answer more questions correctly.
It is a demanding exam and many things will have to be sacrificed in the process. Make sure they give you something better in return.
