I m expecting good score in mains. I have practiced a lot of answer before the mains exam... I am strictly against any such delay tactics..

@HankShrader  Atb. Hardly matters what others think/say. You are right when you say if somebody say they performed well, everyone becomes insecure and start labelling. And, we get awake when result shows a diff picture of people performing well.

I think you have a valid point..

However..I found the papers to be difficult to score so high... Maybe 100+ in any one paper by god's grace.. but expecting around 100 in all is beyond my comprehension..

I assume @hank studied about blue led, s400 technical details and who guidelines before entering the exam hall... only then can one expect to cross 100..

If I knew some facts about the question.. I wrote it..

Have filled almost all pages in all the papers.. right from essay to optional.. and have not tried to bluff the examiner..

If saying what I did in the exam is a crime..then please label me as criminal..

DKT part 2..

Only difference... Last year he missed around 260 marks questions..

This year he has attempted all as per his claims..

However prepared one may be.. u cannot answer all questions particularly in the optional.. certain questions are deliberately made very difficult..

Atleast DKT part 2 is expecting around 800+.. not 850+ despite leaving so many questions in the last attempt..

May be genuine guy.. but I have my reservations

i too evaluated my own paper and gave myself marks according to my mocks performance. to my surprise, i scored well. but as time passed i decided to downgrade by scores.

agreed. virtue is condemned bcoz it makes others feel lesser, victimhood is praised bcoz it makes others feel superior. proud of you for doing well. :D

You don't get it. They (whoever called you DKT) weren't triggered by your claims regarding marks, but by the 'in your face' way of putting it. "Cyber begging"? "Delay tactics"??, and after that you talk about your hard work and performance! I'm no one to judge, but please don't be under the impression that you were name called due to your marks prediction (that too may be a reason, as you've said 100 for GS3, which going by this year's paper and last year's topper marks, looks a bit unrealistic. But who am I to judge? may be you're good in GS3. I don't know, I don't care and I didn't call you any names. using someone's name as an abuse/slang is something I don't agree with. If you get 100 in GS3, good for you 👍🏽).

Any idea how many of those who get recommended by upsc appear for the exam again.. I m talking about those who do not get IAS or IFS(it's obvious btw)

My personal opinion.. majority of them try to improve their rank..

But the question is.. how many of them succeed in making it to the list again..

VERY FEW... 

Despite knowing what it takes to get into the list they struggle to secure a rank..

Doesn't that signify that this exam is very unpredictable..

Subjectivity of the evaluators and neck throat competition for each mark is what sums up the whole story..

intro body concl is told to us to be written at all costs. upsc never said anything on this. i think this is primary reason for missing out on questions due to time issue. 

I know someone (IAS now), who got 136 in GS1, used to write the answers in straight bullet point format, without any intro/conclusion. Though I myself didn't try it, that definitely means this IBC format, like many other things propagated by coaching wallahs is just another myth.

From the discussion going on in Tele groups..

I could make out that many there were expecting above 800 this year..

Even 2 of my friends said that they did extremely well..

Not to demotivate others but I feel cut off will certainly rise this year ..

Please don't be obsessed with blue led..s400.. GDP.. population education.. who guidelines n all..

They are some difficult questions asked every year..

Either I m in the group of some really talented candidates this year or they are being over optimistic..

Whatever the case.. going by popular opinion..I predict cut off to go 750+ this year..

agar ekdum straightforward points likhne the in 5-6 factual questions me toh fir 80+ achha score mana jayega gs 2 and 3 me . for 2 reasons:

- checking kisine bataya strict hua hai

- baki ke questions bhi kafi complex the bhale factual na ho.

muje nai lagta ki logo ko 14fc gdp s400 equality aqg etc kisi ko bhi 5-6 points exactly pata honge time ko dekhte hue

Experience se bata raha hun checking related saari info bogus hoti hai. Result date ka fir bhi idea lag sakta hai kyonki file movement hota hai upsc mein. Checking is completely discreet.

One who cannot estimate his/her performance is not an expert either.. it is not wrong to be able to make a rational analysis of performance..

Some people are trying to project as if those guessing their marks are fools and only they are smart.. but actually it's other way around...

hahahaha hank bhai personal le liya tumne but hum nahi lenge. Ye khela kai baar dekh chuke hain cut-off, good answer, bad answer, tough paper easy paper. I say with confidence of an expert that rational analysis in this exam is not possible at all. Baaki haan anxiety hoti hai to hum bhi thoda calculator chala lete hain but deep down pata hai ki it is futile excercise. Lekin to each their own. Khela chalte rahna chahiye.

The only two services, which won't see any reduction in power, in my opinion are the IPS and IA&AS. IPS, because police is a necessary evil, and "powerful leaders"(who are on the rise all over India) like to keep police on their side.IPS will see an increase in power in the future.

IA&AS will remain the same, as it's the only service in the list which has some kind of constitutional backing (CAG), and if their powers are reduced, will result in huge political furore.

Not proud bhai. It was a very difficult time. People eulogize the exam too much. Sadly, everyone thought I cleared "IAS exam" but then I'm still here. So answering so many questions  now. Infact, had stopped socializing for a while.

@Philip_Marlowe,@Dip, as per your experience, would it be a bad decision to put IA&AS over IRS?

I've seen some videos where I got to know that in IRS though intake is low these years, is a bottom-heavy service. Hence slow promotions. IA&AS on the other hand is the only central service apart from IFS which gets promotions timely at the same level as all India services. Also, the work seems to be interesting with further specialisation into environmental or social audits.
What are your views?

It's a personal choice. If you like IA&AS, then it's a very good service, in my opinion. 

Both IRS IT and Customs have this "bottom heavy" issue. Customs have it for a long time. IRS IT will soon face the trouble. That's because from around 2009 (figures aren't exact) times, under Chidambaram, it was decided to increase the IRS IT intake. The logic was that, since it's a revenue generating service, more officers means more revenue. So, every year, around 100 was the intake for IRS IT. This was stopped in 2018 onwards, I think.

Now, in every government service, first two promotions happen on time. It's from JS level onwards that the crunch starts. Usually IAS become JS by 14 years, similar for IPS. For other services it's 14+2,3,4... even upto 10 years. I've heard that already now customs takes around 20 years to get JS level promotion (but I still prefer customs over IT, because I find the job thrilling). Now, since the increased intake of IRS happened around 2009, from around 2023-24, a bottleneck will appear in their JS  promotions. IRS IT guys themselves are worried about it, especially after the recent reforms, they are demanding increased deputation to compensate for the deficiencies.

I'm no expert, but if you like IA&AS, I'd definitely say it's a very good choice. Again, it's a personal choice. I don't like IRS IT(we had a two weeks combined training with them in their academy and I really hated it. The officers were pretty arrogant and the subject seemed too dry and boring. Only a few gets to take part in raids and others have to do the boring number crunching, but since they generate revenue, living and working conditions will be better in comparison). 

In comparison, IA&AS always maintained their intake steady. Their promotions are on time, Plus a lesser known thing about IA&AS is that there are many opportunities for foreign deputation, if you are good at work. Don't know the details.

NB: purely my opinion. Please do research on your own before finalising the preferences.

IRS customs mein bhi limited log mainly the DRI and enforcement people do the 'exciting' work, baaki wahan bhi number crunching aur adjudication ka hi kaam hai.

Our lawyer has informed that upsc is on a Blackfoot n hence the delay in results..

In my opinion.. it will take much longer than anticipated by aspirants in the group.

By the way how many of u r aware that hunger strike is going on for extra attempts

Firstly your usrname is cent percent oxymoron and who is your 'lawyer' ? Are you one thing of the petitioners ?

Btw, what Upsc did is the very same done by Neet and Jee-adv organisers. 

If everything in this country gets politicised by doing hunger strikes..than i think it will harm serious candidates much. It happens in state pcs exams, that some छात्र netas (who were candidates in the bygone era) protest at everything. There is one Kaushal 'Sir' who berates the Uppcs each time an English medium candidate gets selected.

There will always remain some party which has been aggrieved or trying to play the victim card. If all voices be heard than there will be no justice, because everyone has got some story.

If Mains 2022 be organised from 22 Feb, some candidates may say that they got ditched on 21st Feb (breakup day), and are in no mood/mental state to write the paper...they may say that breakup hurts more than Covid and there are also no vaccines to mend it.
