I scored 86, 89, 88, 101 in last Mains in GS (1st mains)... at that time.. i had not written a single test of any coaching just revising my e-notes multiple time... which I made during my preparation from Hindu, CA book, standard books, here and there. Completed all the Questions but did n't remind after that what i had written?These marks were above of my expectations
This time... revise from notes, wrote Forum tests... scored well there.. attend the questions on the merit.. break the question in parts as per demand and answered (IBC format) as per demand with relevant data, map, flow charts, committee etc. This time due to more consciousness, reminded of many answers.. and cursing my self for few answers (Those could be better attempted)
My Q is
is there any co-relation, that above exercise will led to more better marks than last mains ? can anyone share their experience.

in order to prepare psychologically for impending failure in upsc cse i steadily embraced nihilism atleast partially. we all shall die irrespective of anything. it gave me real peace but sadly also made me lethargic. i remember leaving questions in upsc because of lack of interest and fighting spirit . this carelessness and dull attitude is due to nihilism. so while nihilism is great it has it's own shortcomings.

@LionKing2021 what is the deal with insiders? I mean why do people need to even know insider info? Result will anyway come on time and the result will not change. and what good will come from knowing when papers will start to be getting checked or how many seats are there in advance? some of this info is not needed well in advance and some of this info is of no use to us as candidates

There are good people among insiders, no doubt, as in everything. But there are people with not so good intentions too. My only point is, why take a chance? Let UPSC itself declare the result date in advance. Let's not depend upon middlemen.
To those who say, "if you don't like it, just ignore it", we can ignore anything that way. If you don't like corruption, ignore it. At least these corrupt guys get things done, right?

But I would like to add my 2 cents to the discussion on the essay..
The core demand of the essay should always be addressed... Dimensions should revolve around the core theme..
If the topic is on motherhood..then that forms the crux of the essay.. various dimensions about motherhood adds value and not anything under the sun..
PS.. I have not written this topic n I don't claim myself to be a good essay writer.. but what I said above is my understanding..

True!! World of upsc is post modern ,there is no absolute truth, we should act rather more prudently while presenting our opinions. newer aspirants might wrongly interpret these ideas to be the absolute.
Before optional exam, I thought of putting names of philosophers in my answers. A person told me 'zyada naam likhne sey marks nahi miltey'
In the exam, I wrote the names of philosophers. I was feeling happy.
Next day, I told that person that I didn't write any names (🙂), he told me that I should have written some names na..marks kaise milenge he said. I told him that I did write names.
He felt flabbergasted and asked did I write the names of their books. I said some books. He said bhai Books ka naam aur year of publication bhi likhna hota hai....he was trying to make me feel bad for no reason.
Hence, the feeling you get just after the exam should be the one you should carry around, atleast in Mains

Well, I am just saying that court cases are futile..
Just compare .. around 10-15 candidates missed mains due to COVID . Actually only 3 have petitioned..
9000 candidates waiting for their results.. their career will be jeopardized due to such court cases..

@krishna96 My take is that they give more marks.Imagine if 40% is highest marks for very good answers then how people got 115 in GS 1 121 in GS 2 108 in GS 3 131 in GS 4And not just one but many have good good scores in these range.It is difficult to believe that a topper writes very good answers to all 20 Questions.May be 7-8 very good answers 7-8 good answers 4-5 average answers.In my opinion they give 5-5.5 marks for exceptional answers 4-4.5 for good answers 3 3.5 for average and 1 2 for bad answers out of 10 marks.
Based on my past mains,many of us specially in 1st mains mismanageme time and end up somehow completing 7 8 questions in hurry.Even if we write some good answers,number of average answers r high. Moreover, sometimes we miss demand.All these factors contribute to low scores.
Nai nai upsc awards even 8/10 ;it's normalization that changes final scores, this is the reason why people leaving few questions also get good scores. Last year I left 25 marks in gs 1 ended up getting 90+, completed gs 3 and scored 75 ,bottom line hai ki content gives you better score however completing all questions with quality content is a tough task
