I'm pretty crushed by my GS performance honestly. It isn't even that the papers were difficult or weird, that's another issue. I did badly. There's really no way around it. I've royally screwed up GS-3 and it was my own negligence. Definitely kicking myself rn. :/

Same boat.

Not happy with the answer quality across the board.

Have y'all ever felt that you could've done but still couldn't. Due to minor faults of our own.

At times I look back, and all I see is time wasted on inconsequential things

Does anyone else feel like that the actual content one ends up using in the exam, the only things that we needed to know to write good answers (and what is possible to execute in that time crunch), is actually less?
And throughout the year we just end up doing-reading a lot of unnecessary stuff?

Yes!
That's why one of my friend once mentioned, "whatever content you've, that's enough to clear this exam(GS portion). Trust whatever you've and faltu fomo ni regarding value addition"

If I had this realisation earlier I would’ve gotten away with much lesser amount of studies and might’ve actually had a life for past 1-2 years 💁🏻‍♀️😂

Guys, in Precis, we have to write in those small boxes right? so words like is, was, the, to, where etc.. will also be counted?

also, don't confuse IR with comparitive politics

easton is CP, kaplan is IR. Wallerstein is kind of both i think

I have Wallerstein wala as Instrumentalist under Marxism in IR theories and Kaplan under Systems theory, then David Easton in Comparative

Have to go over again IPT because I’ve only studied it in passing so far and maybe a quick look at the multitude of scholars we have in Sec B :/

And, will take notes to revise Sec B of Paper 2 tomorrow in the break (productivity level: pro max ultra and POV: very underprepared)

If you’re having any difficulty with the scholars view, just write the analysis. Should be enough to get you marks , this is what Shubhra Mam emphasised in class

Meaning write own analysis?

I *feel* our own arguments as long as they are relevant, logical and informed are better than flooding the answer with scholar opinions anyway.

Prelims or not, I will take at least 15 days off. Haven't taken any time off for the past 2.5 years, barring medical emergencies. Both physical and mental health have taken a decent toll. This can't go on like this. :/

Yes.

Everyone, take all the time that’s needed to fix yourself. Shut off your brain, rest your eyes, get some sun, meet friends and gossip and most importantly, forget about the exam.

Watch Secret Life of Walter Mitty everyone, plssss.

Or monsoon wedding!

No other movies can be so uplifting.

Stay Alive by Jose Gonzalez from Walter Mitty is sooo dreamy 🙂

Wo parody h 😂😂😂. Yes entertaining, but looking for 'real' horror right now

The Quiet Place was good. Both parts. Although it’s more thriller than horror.

If anyone watches chhota bheem for purely innocent entertainment purpose can it still be argued that this is indicative of his declining iq

Everyone who wrote mains this time I would really like to know what worked for you guys this time in prelims?

Considering the kind of unexpected paper that it was this time, still people were able to get such good marks in prelims and able to clear it, I would really like to know what worked for you and what was your 'strategy' ?

You probably missed prelims by v close…I know you had a sound prep. Don’t doubt it. Just keep doing the needful (one ca source and basics) and you’ll be through this time. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of luck and more people should realise that.

@Apollo11 Its like saas bahu serial of english landed aristocracy. One can keep one's brain in the almirah and need  only spinal cord to enjoy it :)
However after hectic mains , these kind of series helps .Plus it will improve vocabulary and  one can learn how to speak sarcastically while being politely insulting  at the same time!

So is it nothing like The Crown? Coz that was brilliant

Lol, your last comment is enough reason for me to watch it 😂

Rejoined office.. Following the roster due to Covid.. So have to go on alternate days.. watched Witcher series. Lets see.. what else to watch..😄

Witcher 2 - not as good as 1 :(

Hmm [sighs]

Unpopular opinion: didn’t really like the Witcher. Had to force myself to sit through season 1 🙊

Henry cavil is a big brilliant dork which is the only reason why I sat through season 1, but even celeb crushes have their limits 😂

Yes to crushing on Henry Cavil 😍

I only read books for escapism now, so I’m short on non fiction recommendations :))

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me where was/were the CSE mains center(s) in Lucknow this year?

Rajkiye/Hussainabad Inter College

Is this one center? Any idea if they kept the same mains center last year too?

Yep it’s one, pretty sure the only one here this time around

And no, no clues about last year. Maybe @SergioRamos would know.

I was kinda hoping for UPPCS Bhavan, don’t know why they went with this - this one was bad.

Opposition was raising the matter of rising unemployment in the country but how can there be no employment generation when the size of the GDP, FDI, and number of unicorns have increased multiple times in the country.

Thoughts ?

K shaped recovery would entail a recovery in capital and tech intensive industries at a faster rate which creates lesser jobs, and which drives FDI and Unicorns. So basically the pattern of growth could be highly skewed.

Plus, small business and labour intensive sectors like MSMEs were disproportionately affected by pandemic which worsened unemployment.

Also, we’ve never really focused on labour intensive industries to absorb the surplus labour from agriculture.

It’s not just the NATO issue, Putin’s speech from a few days back calling collapse of USSR as the greatest catastrophe of 20th century, and claiming Ukraine…now how is that any less irredentist than China?

The solution is NATO giving assurance that they will not admit Ukraine. Ukraine is kind of a buffer state between Europe and Russia. Its geography and history does not allow it to take any side. It at all cost has to find a coexistence with Moscow.

Putin is only asking for assurance that NATO will not be expanded. They have repeatedly violated this assurance and expanded NATO in 5 waves apparently. Putin has no option left but to retaliate. Otherwise, it will be an existential threat to Russia. Economic sanctions/military involvement/Kadi Ninda etc dont matter in front of existential crisis.

But don't you think its a bit naïve to believe Putin's version of the story? - the same one which says Russia is facing an existential threat. If that is the case, then why doesn't he enjoy domestic support for this invasion? Its his mad adventure to cling to power, coupled by the old Soviet nostalgia which can't stand former states flourishing once out of its sphere of influence.

And even if there are security concerns, surely an invasion and indiscriminate bombing of cities, including civilian buildings, is not the answer. Russia is the aggressor, not the victim.

As for Ukraine, its a sovereign country, with every right to decide which alliance to join, especially for self defence. If Putin's agenda was to stop NATO expansion in Europe, then his moves have been laughable. All this while, with what's going on Ukraine, he's displaying exactly why European countries need NATO. This is manifest in how Finland is in the process to expedite its joining of NATO or how Switzerland and some other states have abandoned their age-old policy of neutrality to help Ukraine with arms, and support sanctions against Russia.

Ppl with previous experience of mains

How much of variation did you see in actual marksheet from your expected conservative marks?

What/How are you improving on since then?

All the best

I have written 5 mains so far..

GS1 and GS4 are always less than expected for me. GS2 and GS3 are usually as expected.

Essay ..my first attempt (2017), i expected 150 , as i believed i wrote  really good essays on agriculture and women(good old days , where no mandatory philosophical topics are there). I got 110, while top score that year is 175. There after my essays got stagnant in range of 125-130, which are more or less on expected lines.

With respect to improvement, my GS and essay scores are almost similar from my 2nd attempt, irrespective of all the value additions, answer writing practice etc etc. Average marks in GS2 and GS3, below average in GS1 and GS4 .

If my optional clicks..i used to get interview call or if it tanks i couldn't clear mains. And i could never predict my optional score since it's humanities. It fell down from 280(2018) to 210 (2019) to 250(2020)

With increasing attempts the variation between your expectations and actual scores reduce, atleast for GS. Optional tho.. Only God knows .😂

Is your optional PSIR? 💀

A burning question for Humanities optional candidates..especially for Socio, PSIR and history ones....Did you write optional answer in paragraphs or in GS type methodology of points. I am confused till now

PSIR optional. Wrote everything in paragraph- all 10,15, 20 markers.

Same here. Did Shubra Maam suggest only to write in paras ?

I didn't take any formal coaching or test series for PSIR. This was my second mains. In my first mains, I got good marks( 141, 148) in both papers, and so decided to replicate my efforts from last time. It was all paragraph last time; so this time too, I stuck with it. Paragraph seemed the right way to go as none of the articles that I referred by academics during my preparation were written in points. I therefore decided to mimic the writing style of academics to the best of my abilities.

Your first mains was what year?

Out.

2nd attempt, 1st mains. PSIR.

As gutted as I am, this result isn’t really unexpected. My revision wasn’t upto the mark and it showed in the exam hall.
