@zombieland paper 1 was a bit tough especially part b so i attempted only one q from it. paper 2 was easy..............................for psir optional :D
Wha optimist ji wah. Shi khel gye
@Declared_Dead one 10 marker in gs1 , one 10 and 15 marker each in gs2, 2 ten marker and one 15 marker in gs3 and one 15 marker in optional total 85, last time I attempted all questions each and every in all 9 papers even language (lol) yet missed interview call by 6 marks. Despite attempting all in gs1 i got 70, 72 in gs2 and 79 in gs3. This time I straightaway left questions i had no idea, eg. earn and learn scheme, american equality, gdp changes, led, who air lasagna and tried my best to attempt easy ones or moderate ones better. I personally feel in an exam of such large magnitude focus should more be on quality. missing few questions here and there doesnt matter.further in 10 or 15 marker question where you had less knowledge or time to attempt them you dont actually miss 10 or 15 marks but 3or 4 marks. So we should not inflate the magnitude of loss that is accrued due to skipping the questoins. In short i dont think personally based on my experience that missing questions worth 160 marks is a big issue "Provided" other questions have a good decent quality. so dont feel guilty bro cheer up :Dbut yeah if you have missed one whole essay out of two, then its entirely different story hehe
Just attempting all does not matter. If u hv attempted almost all 10 markers in 7 minutes and 15 markers in 10 minutes with average content then only it matters.
@Declared_Dead One guy here wrote he got interview call after leaving 155 marks. Even I have many shitty 10 marks and few 15 marks with just 1 or 1.5 pages. And, in 2 questions only intro.
Was he from PH category?
Guys in Optional paper 1 , i filled the question cum answer booklet number wrong. I wrote a letter later at the centre saying i filled it wrong but forgot to mention which paper ! Guys what should i do? Please help.
Dont worry. Ur copy will not get rejected. Every year i see some people do such mistakes but their copy is not rejected. For ur own satisfaction u can write letter to upsc.
@zombieland No. General. In This thread only that guy stated.
Bhai jhooth bol rha hai h woh.
I scored 86, 89, 88, 101 in last Mains in GS (1st mains)... at that time.. i had not written a single test of any coaching just revising my e-notes multiple time... which I made during my preparation from Hindu, CA book, standard books, here and there. Completed all the Questions but did n't remind after that what i had written? These marks were above of my expectations
This time... revise from notes, wrote Forum tests... scored well there.. attend the questions on the merit.. break the question in parts as per demand and answered (IBC format) as per demand with relevant data, map, flow charts, committee etc. This time due to more consciousness, reminded of many answers.. and cursing my self for few answers (Those could be better attempted)
My Q is
is there any co-relation, that above exercise will led to more better marks than last mains ? can anyone share their experience.
This is not for the show off/or any other meaning... it is genuine query.. may be some ppl seen some patters earlier .. please help
If u hv completed questions on time i.e 7 minutes for 10 markers nd 10 for 15 markers then expect atleast 10 marks improvement in each paper (as per last year standard)
Ppl with prior experience of mains, a small query
Writing all questions with average quality answers or Good quality answers for most Qns even at the cost of missing 1/2? Which one of these two approach turned out to better yield?
Good answers in 19 questions will be better but very difficult to achieve.
Everyone who wrote mains this time I would really like to know what worked for you guys this time in prelims?
Considering the kind of unexpected paper that it was this time, still people were able to get such good marks in prelims and able to clear it, I would really like to know what worked for you and what was your 'strategy' ?
Bro always keep ur statics v.v strong. Make sure high correction rate in those cases. If u can get maximum correct out of such 30-35 questions chances will better
@zombieland paper 1 me around 40 marks ka bhot speed me likha hai. time kam pada h kyunki 10 marker me time nikal gaya. but demand satisfy kia h aur page nai bhar paya. like 1.5-2 pages sirf. paper 2 me toh 10 marker tough the. tumara?
Paper 1 main 15 ka galat. LH moragan classification of family. Paper 2 main 5th question k 2-3 sawal generic likhe h
I actually had been taking meds(pcm) since essay paper just to be in the safer side, but by the time gs4 was finished i definitely had fever, and if all mumbai guys would remember those were some of the coldest days in recorded history of Mumbai.
On the day of language paper for English we were reverted back to original seating arrangement as gs papers the week earlier at Sion centre, there one person who had given gs papers was missing, i presumed must be coz of illness. The upsc under the guise of greater public good has actually made a common fodder out of them.
On the day of my optional paper a guy sitting next to me on the adjusant row was coughing so bad that was disturbing the flow of thoughts but to be fair to to him poor guy had a bottle of warm water which he slipped every 5 mins to stopp coughing. I don't know if he completed the paper coz he seemed fairly disturbed too.
I guess by the end of the exam none of us really cared about health all that was needed was to complete the paper somehow !!
I got fever after gs4. Wasted 2 days due to this. Took heavy dose of paracetamol
@leftfaithinmyself Of course the utopia is all questions to be attempted. However, I remember Akshat Jain said he left 20 marks (or more) in his optional paper yet he was one of the highest scorers. Also while beginning my optional study I had watched a few videos and the general perception subtly seemed to be that if you're not able to manage time, leave 1-2 question but attempt others nicely. Their logic being optional is checked by subject matter experts hence quality matters. Not sure how true all of that is, but sure that you'd have done well.
Whether u can leave a question or not depends upon marking pattern. If they r giving 8 out of 10 in best attempted question then better to leave unknown questions. Bt if best answer fetches 4 to 5 marks then attempting all becomes more important
@Philip_Marlowe i don't know if this observation makes sense of not but in last 4 years as people have started attempting everything, cutoff is actually progressively declining, May be a coincidence or too simplistic analysis idk
Cutoff was on lower side before 2016 as well. Even in prelims cut off has declined. It all depends upon upsc. U cannot say in 2019 most ethical candidates appeared while in 2020 unethical ones. It is just direction given by upsc
agreed, infact there have been many toppers clearing exam without drawing flowchart and diagrams. i think evaluator is too mature to be tricked by diagrams here and there. if content is up to the mark, these rudimentary things don't matter
Diagrams should add some value like drwaing world map for monsoon. Diagrams like sun and ray help in saving time. That saved time helps in increasing marks especially when there is time crunch. Also in GS3 explaining through flow charts is easier in many questions.
So indirectly it helps. However if one can explain better and manage time without drawing all such diagrams, then also it is equally good. It is upto an individual. No hard rule
Is there anyone here who can tell me how reliable are mains test series marks (Vision etc). I missed prelims in 2021 by a narrow margin but the discussions here are scaring me of mains? How much we can be assured about an interview call atleast if we score well in tests?@SnowLeopard @AureliusM
For mains if u r getting above 90 in three hours attempt then pretty good chance of reaching upto interview stage. (Vision test series)
@chikuiasbano optional - Sociologymy score was 123 in P1 (expected 140 here)
124 in P2 (expected 110 here)
w/o a single test... directly wrote in UPSC in 1st mains
Bhai ji while analysing marks after paper how many marks you gave yourself in 10 marker and 20 marker? if you attempted good and what if you attempted it as average.. I am facing issue in calculating my marks
It is difficult to calculate marks. In some questions u might b expecting gud or poor marks bt in reality it might be just reverse. Best is to see whether ur overall performance is average, above or below it.
If u hv completed all questions within time limit with average content (just addressed question with less data or committee) = average performance (expect around 90).
Time crunch in 4-5 questions like attempting 3 ten markers in last 10 minutes= below average
Good time management+ quality content= above average (expect above 100)
*this is just my personal observation
I don't know bout others but i have always seen a clerk in SBI or nurse in government hospital give 100% and working a bit more than working hours. Never thought they wanted to earn money without working as above mentioned post try to convey.
Most of the psu or govt ills is because of management decisions or lack of quick decisions. The average employee is really a pawn. The places where govt decided to give autonomy many sectors worked really well, for eg ongc which was pretty profitable until 2019 when govt decided to transfer surplus capital to self which left ongc with no cash to invest, you can see where things are going now. The process of governance doesn't have integrity, as they just treat profit making psu as personal fief and impose decisions without any long term considerations.
But has privatisation worked in India? Private investment in media is a best example, what is the status of private media is for everyone to see. What about it sector??
There is a reason why Indians have high hopes in government sector jobs, because it has stability, despite salary being low and working condition not upto the mark. The big tragedy of our times is that none of us are skilled beyond rudimentary graduation level skills and many of us are hopelessly inflexible to learn new skills.
PS: unfortunately not the way an aspirant should be looking the problems but this is what I feel it is.
It is welcoming that ur experience with governemnt staffs is better. However, my experience with them is just reverse. I find SBI clerks to be of elitist attitude. They will get angry over simple query. Registered complain against them. No action
Opened account in kotak bank. Once they replied rudely. I complained. Next day manager was at my home asking for my grievances.
"There is a reason why Indians have high hopes in government sector jobs, because it has stability, despite salary being low and working condition not upto the mark"
I beg to differ from this. The reason why Indians (most) are obsessed with government job is because it is a quick and cheap way to make money. You go to a 'Peshkar' in court, he will ask you money to put a date. An Official selling stamp of Rs 50 will charge you Rs 100 in name of 'Chai Paani'. You want to clear some dues in 'treasury office', you will have to do it by greasing the wheel. This is the truth of government service where for getting a single signature of an official, one has to take care of associates.
@AureliusMRegarding social security net, I do agree to some extent. However, Private sector also has a good social security net. The informal economy is where we are big time lacking this. And about cut throat environment, it depends on work culture of company to company. The thing is the current system in government service is not upto the mark. And, if by paying more money or due to privatisation, one can get optimum service, many will want that. People who cant afford those, there comes the duty of government to make the service affordable without compromising the quality.
@KratosOfPUBGBhai, I have seen you making personal comments. Please put your thoughts by respecting others opinion. All of us here have 'common sense' and yes, we don't use 'socio-economic' everytime. :)
The argument of cheap and quick money does not hold ground. Lakhs of students apply for post of teacher where extra source of income is almost nil. (Those who r not headmaster)
The main reason is higher pay for lower skill atleast at lower levels. For instance a driver in open market can get maximum12 k to 15k. But in public sector it may go upto 35 to 40k with many additional benefits.
Good point of people applying for teacher where extra income is almost 'nil'.The argument of cheap and quick money does not hold ground. Lakhs of students apply for post of teacher where extra source of income is almost nil. (Those who r not headmaster)

In answer to this, I would like to highlight the issue of poor status of government schools. Even if the teacher is not earning extra, many of them are just there for passing time and chilling instead of providing education to kids. I consider this as a way of making cheap money. Because, without doing anything and being absent for long period, you are still getting full salary.Plus, there is a lot of quid pro quo among headmasters and teachers in school admissions, mid day meal, money for purchasing clothes etc.
People have suffered enough from hands of babus. So, they themselves want to become babus and do the same. This is the sad truth :(
I have seen people asking not the expected salary for the post applied rather how much 'upper waala income' one can get from that service. Be it for peon, driver, clerk or teacher.
Please dont make extrapolation regarding out incomes. By that logic if someone feels happy at job then his salary should be reduced as happiness can be considered as extra income only. By your logic if salary of teachers is reduced to 5k per month with no additional support still lakhs will apply for that post as it allows chit chat (out income).
Reagrding MDM n other scams: black money remain limited to headmaster n his associates. Very few cabdidates think of such things while applying for teachers job.
Peopel r dying for job of government teacher because it allows people with poor skill to get good salary. For same skill they may get salary of less than 10 k in open market but 40k in govt. I hv never seen highly skilled teachers @ reputed private schools (good salary) applying for govt. teachers post.(* experience related to bihar governments decision to give teachers job to trained candidates.)

Aise misogynist ke posts p m koi comment nhi krunga .
Bt y do u think dis post is misogynist. This was just a match b/w 2 teams n one team won.
@Agog u hv completely changed ur writting style. How was ur mains marks in last attempt?
A general doubt
In GS answers ,I answered the core aspect and maybe add another dimension either social/economic in most question that's the maximum dimensions I must have presented
Some model answers suggest all PESTEL dimensions , will that approach fetch more marks even when questions were too specific ?
it is to be remembered that folks preparing model answers take use of internet, spend hours researching, discuss and make answers working in group.
I strongly feel such facilities are not legally available to people writing the actual exam. further pestel has her own limitations. for instance it is difficult to write about problem of sexual harrasment at workplace dimension in question of blue led or talk about climate change in question related to terrorism. it is likewise difficult to talk about art and culture dimension in question of cbi, as it is equally difficult to mention about space science dimension in question of nhrc.
Don't ever compare to people making model answers. they possess the luxuries we don't and ever won't.
Model answers ko notes bna kr padh sakte hain. Unhe answer matching k liye kripya use na kre
In some questions I have not written conclusion, mostly 10 marker. Will that affect my marks?Nothing to worry..
Time crunch is so much that we tend to forget key points sometimes leave alone the conclusion..
In the microfinance question.. I knew that malegam committee is related to it and I should mention it.. so I wrote in the question paper to write it in the body of the answer..
And guess what..
When I finished the paper and submitted it I saw the question paper again to realise that I missed writing it..
So what is done cannot be undone.. that's the beauty of the exam..
It's a race which u must enjoy and not feel pain due to minor shortcomings
now i realise how tough competition is. malegam didn't even cross my mind😂😂
Hearing of Malegam for the first time😏
You would have heard about it,had you followed the Hindu editorials...
Ok. didn't even touch the Hindu (or any newspaper in that regard).
I tried to make notes fron the hindu. Bt soon realized that i was giving lot of time to this exercise. I shifted back to coaching's CA. I just read news coming as notification in mobile app.

Same here. Understood it after my first prelims went kaput. Master your optional, develop your answer writing skills, prepare for prelims well; the lessons learnt so far. If you've covered prelims well, then that's enough content for mains as well.
This idea is flawed..
Mains requires rigorous preparation..
If you feel you have enough content without going through the editorials then it is highly likely that you will fall into the vicious cycle of appearing for pre and mains every year..
Opinions may vary.. I feel editorials add a lot to the quality of the answers..
And I had been in the phase where you are now.. feeling what I had done was enough.. but it wasn't..
Rest is your choice
Bro reading just editorials and making notes from whole newspaper are two different things. However i will say even if some one has good grip over coaching's CA materials even then he can get good marks while ignoring newspaper.
In 2019, i was confident of gs 1, was hoping to get 95, instead got 65, gs 2 went pathetic was expecting 60-70 and got 65 here too. There is simply no way I still can't compare how both the papers got similar marks.
But i have learnt one thing, that it's useless to think about marks once it's over. Sometimes feeling of elation after attempting may also be false. Better to simply focus on the task ahead and work for that, ie pre and interview prep, but we all know it's easier said than done.
Do you mean to suggest that marking is done arbitrarily and not done on merit..
I think it is the self assessment part where we are mistaken.. maybe we tend to overestimate/ underestimate ourselves..
Pointing towards arbitrariness will make the whole mains preparation pointless
Bro, marking is objective and not arbitrary. Exceptions may exist but that is rare and not a regular affair. (I can tell this with my own experience)
Many a times students dont write the actual demand of the question. They think that they have attempted well bt end up getting poor marks. Also students haphzardly attempt last 5-6 questions n claim full attempt. In such scenarios they get disappointed with their marks.
@Declared_Dead value toh nai add karta hai. content achha likha hoga. baki coherence kaise banega pata nai muje. waise maine kisi topper ko suna nai ye bolte ki subheading daalna hai. mocks me air 1 ka koi subheading nai mila muje. zaada copies nai dekha but jitne bhi toppers ka dekha h kisime bhi subheading nai hai.
Bhai..
Maine to jitne v toppers k videos dekhe hain.. most of them recommended subheadings..
I scored 131 n 135 in 19 n 20 mains..
My content was not great..in 2020 mains essay paper..I went to exam hall after barely sleeping for 3 hours.. during second essay I struggled to concentrate due to sleepiness..
I don't say that it was only due to subheadings.. but I only mean to say that subheadings don't break coherence..
If one has good essay writing skill then sub-headings can be ignored. They can get good marks without following this approach.
But candidates having poor writing skill should follow sub-heading approach. Sub-headings may break flow but ensure that one is not deviating from topic or if deviated then can come back in next sub-heading. Also this ensures clarity (if one has poor writing skill).
Sub-heading approach ensures average marks for those having poor writing skill or those not having natural flow while writing essay. So any approach should be chooseb as per ones own strengths nd weaknesses
Definitely writing without sub-headings/without forced pointers like in this essay we will discuss../without writing not only in field of politics but also in society../ without forcibly adding question in last line of para to link with next para--- it will be awarded highest.
But such a writing style does not come naturally especially to those with science background. Here one has to make a choice- either take an approach which guarantees avg marks or another which may give 150 (best case) or 105 (poor articulation nd flow)
People making such authoritative and definitive statements about marking/methodology here! Where do you get all this confidence from? :P
People make such statements through their personal experiences. A candidate follows one approach in one attempt and another in next. Depending upon marks he makes some conclusion that wat works or not. He will preach about approach which he thinks has worked with confidence which may seem to be authoritative or definitive. However, wat has worked for one may not work for others.
Thats y it is said that always apply ur own brain and analyze ur own strengths and weaknesses before accepting any such statement.
Before optional exam, I thought of putting names of philosophers in my answers. A person told me 'zyada naam likhne sey marks nahi miltey'
In the exam, I wrote the names of philosophers. I was feeling happy.
Next day, I told that person that I didn't write any names (🙂), he told me that I should have written some names na..marks kaise milenge he said. I told him that I did write names.
He felt flabbergasted and asked did I write the names of their books. I said some books. He said bhai Books ka naam aur year of publication bhi likhna hota hai....he was trying to make me feel bad for no reason.
Hence, the feeling you get just after the exam should be the one you should carry around, atleast in Mains
Although his intention was not gud bt his points were valid:
1. Excessive use of phiolosophers seems not gud
2. Writing name of book is also recommended. Bt mugging up year of publication is very difficult
@Admgenalanezh pata nai muje toh koi bhi q direct laga nai usse. questions jis tarah se framed the, aisa lag rha tha ki agar nai bhi padhta toh bhi answer ho jate ye questions.directly kisi kaam nai aya mere
Direct toh bohot kum hi use tha. Bt quality improvement m kaam aa sakta hai.
@Capedcrusader1 yes mjhe bhi lgra. marking strict hi hogy. but some questions like evolutionary theories on ageing, thick description, morgan family classification were not so easy i guess..and in paper 2 also 10 markers were not so easy to write
Yes in paper 2 10markers were like GS. Writing from anthropolohical perspective was difficult.
Paper1 was simpler than last year. Last year some questions were out of standard sources. This was not the case this year
» show previous quotes I don't know. Frankly speaking after looking at my score I started having doubts on the wisdom of what toppers say. I didn't write point wise, relied completely on paragraph format because this is what happens when you don't know how to answer a question accurately. In most of the answers, rather than giving 5-6 points I wrote 2-3 and elaborated upon that to fill space. I didn't underline any keywords in the answer sheet. After walking out it felt like a terrible mess. Still I got 92. This is a mystery that has baffled me for the last 5 months.
Last year paper1 was difficult. In many questions writing something relevant was in itself a big task. I myself was expecting not more than 110 bt got good marks. However in paper 2 i was expecting much higher marks bt the result was not on expected lines. Maybe since paper2 was on was easy. So marking became difficult.
Also i will like to add that increasing marks from 0 to 80 is easy. From 80 to 100 more difficult. Much more difficult to increase to 130. Now to increase from 130 to 150 u will need all those wisdoms preached by toppers. More perfection is needed. So there should not be perception that if with little effort someone got in 90s. Then with little more effort he will get 150. It will be a big journey needing help of wisdoms of many toppers.
@zombieland this time gs 1 was easier or tougher as per u?
Last year some questions were tricky like ideology nd architecture. However, broadly i will consider Gs1 on similar lines as the last year.
commendable energy you all have....still discussing the exam after over a monthRozgar lene hetu yeh sab vartalaap karne hi padthe hain mitr😃
ya'all getting paid to discuss?
Ya'all likh kar kitna din bacha liya?
True that. The Society questions were tough compared to last years. Also in previous years the geog questions were mainly Indian geography based but this time mainly world geography which is difficult for many. I don't know how people are saying Gs1 as easy.
The problem is that people dont consider a question paper as difficult as long as questions r familiar. People can write something and say paper was easy (just lyk attempting paper haphzardly & with poor time-management and claiming full attempt). Paper is seen as difficult only when people have not even heard of wat has been asked.
easy in the sense that
- one could write a structured answer
-understanding demand of questions wasnt tough
-society questions have no data , commitee etc. so its generally easy to write some points provided you had time
for all i know, GS2 was toughest, GS3 also tough. Gs4 one cant guage essay tough
For me gs3 was toughest. GS4 much lengthy. For the first time I took more than 90 minutes to complete case studies section.
Essay was tougher. It took around 30 minutes to brainstorm in first essay. ( never took so much time in earlier attempts.
GS1 and Gs2 were okay. I will not rate them as tough.
Anthro optional paper1 was eaiser as compared to last year. Paper 2 was tricky. Writing ten markers like anthro answer and not gs type was tricky. Although paper2 was doable but i believe getting good marks will b difficult.
@zombieland GS 4 was indeed lengthy. there were subsections in case studies. i took more than usual time in them. my way of answering is also different.GS 3 is toughest because of surprisingly high number of unknown questionsGS2 i found tough, but not as tough as gs 3i rate gs 1 below gs 2 because i could answer those questions of world geo by fulfilling demand, then again ill have to see the paper. but the shock value was very high in gs 1. questions of history seemed simple to merest anthro: my practise was less. only 4 mocks. im not a big fan of beautifying answers and fooling the examiner when i dont know the exact answer.this has reflected in all papers of mine wherein i dont feel like writing 10-15 points in 15 marker and 7-8 points in 10 marker thus irritating the examiner. this however i did do in mocks where questions asked actually lead you to answer that. not saying that is bad but upsc isnt demanding that.same for anthro. no need for structuring apart from IBC. the relevant points will be awarded.
In optional one can afford to leave questions if he has no idea. Also the time saved can be used in other questions and is also directly reflected in marks. But this is valid only for 1-2 questions.
Essay was bit difficult
Bit???

U mean u completed case studies in shorter time earlier??
How short??
What were your scores in gs 4 earlier if you don't mind
Earlier in 90 minutes (1.30hr) This year 105 minutes(1.45hr). Last year score was 98
@Declared_Dead Same here. Lost two days completely, in between the gs and optional papers, due to severe headache and cold (wasted some five days during the days just before the essay paper too, thinking that it will get postponed😅 heck, even chipped in to get that PIL moving😑).
Bro u would have lost one day anyway. 5 paper lagataar dena mazak thode hi hota hai. 0.5 day bekaar jata hai mind ko prepare krne main k abhi optionap baaki hai. So feel sad for just 0.5 day.

Aapka Anthro paper 2 kaisa hua...what's your assessment as compared to last year. Leaving behind compulsory question(10marker), how do you see other questions.
Compulsory questions were difficult. Writing on dominant caste or sanskritization and getting good marks is much easier than writing on multiculateralism or rural politics.
Rest questions were conventional nd doable. So i will consider paper tougher than last year as this year one can write relevant answers in compulsory questions bt he will get good marks or not that is not sure.
How many of you honestly feel that filling up pages has positive impact on the marks
I don't mean writing just anything.. but points atleast remotely related to the topic...
I believe it is this thought process which forces us to fill almost every page of every answer...
PS.. I remember watching Ira Singhal video..where she was strongly against such attitude..
But other toppers recommend it though..
I think the approach of Ira Singhal was unique. She said that she had read around 30 books for her optional (probably geography). Bt considering time constraint most us cannot do this. Even toppers today r not doing this. Shubham rank 1said that he relied heavily on books of akshat jain nd bhasme (consider these books as notes).
So for gs as well she might had a different strategy which may not work for us. Better we follow the conventional wisdom which has worked for more number of people.
Crux of russian attack on Ukraine:

Bakra halal hone ke baad normative ethics, gabdhiji ki philosohpy... lga kr critical analysis hota rhega. lekin kya fayda iska. Tb tak toh lalit ki lanka lag chuki hoti hai.
Marking pattern last year jaisa rha toh cut off kum hi hoga
@zombieland imho this time exam was slightly easier than last time. Wht do u think .
No, i dont think paper was easier than last year. Essay was much tougher. GS1 + GS3 similar to 2020. GS4 lengthier than last year.
Difficulty level of optional may vary. For anthro optional, paper was easier but last year marking pattern was liberal. So it cannot be said that since paper was easy then people will get higher marks compared to 2020.
First mains ,gave just iasbaba free mock a week before mains and few pyq on my ownIn the few mocks I wrote ,I was struggling to complete 17 questions (marks were around 80) due to time constraintsBut on the day of exam, I started attempting from 15 m and then 10m in GS ,in essay I just alloted 5 min for structure formationSurprisingly I completed all questions on time and had 9-10 minutes remaining during which I added any missing terms ,underlining double underlining heading and terms like it's done in schoolI'm sure that neither quality of answers nor handwriting was relevant and legible enoughThe person sitting next to me gave a weird look like how the heck you got time to underline stuff even in Ethics😬I know the marks cannot be predicted but I'm really afraid on finishing fast my papers although the average content and legible handwriting was there ,did anyone else experience similar surprising powers in exam hall ?
We generally perform better in terms of completion in real exam as compared to mocks. But just 5 minutes for brainstorming in essay this year is nothing but khatron ke khiladi. People would have not even choosen the essay topic in 5 minutes.
But a caution. Just check if you hv not committed mistake of writing on mango when the question was to write on alfonso mango.
@Declared_Dead i dont know about this mystery called preperation in this exam. preparation kabhi puri nahin hoti. hamein lagta hum next attempt me tod denge. lekin is baar ki prep ko underestimate karte hain. next attempt me bhi apni alag unpredictability rahegi. sare papers alag ayengetoppers rank laane ke baad kuch bhi bhaasan dete rahe selection ke pehle sirf list me aane ki ummeed rakhte hainmental state sabka more or less same hi rehta hai
Preparation toh kbhi complete nhi hone wala. Apne haath m ye hai ki apne shortcomings ko dhondhe aur uspe kaam kre. But 1-2 attempt k baad shortcomings dhoondhna bhi tough ho jata. Tb jabardasti ka weakness bhi nikal lete hain. Sabse common content ya optional se related.
Fir kuch oversmart toppers ki entry hogi. Woh form bharne se pehle nhi jaante honge ki civil services main 3 stage hota hai. Unko koi senior mil jayega jo demotivate krega ki first attempt main clear nhi hota. Fir woh clear krke stage pe bolenge. Woh coaching bhi join krenge aur 10-15 din k baad chhod denge. Result k baad coaching waalo ko ritual k hisaab se gaali denge although test series unhi ka likha hoga.........
True topic selection took a lot of time and I brainstormed initially for real rational but felt helpless beyond major theme ,so quickly switched to wantlessness-chimera and spent maybe 5-6 minute for structure as I felt that I have already wasted good 10 minutes on topic confusion
Points were mostly relevant to the question 🤯 and in finished atleast 5-10 minutes before ,even I was confused on how did that happen for someone who couldn't complete paper on time just a week before exam
Maybe the pen or ultimate priority to just finish the paper to get average marks , something helped
Jo bhi ho. Relevant content ( even if average without committes or data) + good time management = high chances of clearing mains.
All d best👍
Unrelated but there is a way to large difference between IIT (Adv) and UPSC-CSE in terms of unpredictability.
In Advanced, some candidates are too sure of getting under 10 AIR and they get it. When I was in 12th, there used to be a prodigy kid in class 9th. That kid used to solve Irodov and JD Lee very easily. Yesterday I was reminiscing my school days, Googled his name and Whoa ! he did IIT-D (CS) and is now in London.
In CSE, the AIR-1 also wishes to "just get in the list".
Yup. Even before exam people start predicting name of rank 1. After exam coaching centers informaly release possible rank 1.
Bt in civil services nothing is certain. So much of unpredictability is there. One performed well in optional bt that optional got butchered. Performed well in mains bt interviewer was sad as salt in samosa was more than usual......
Height of Confidence
The 2012 Topper of IIT Jee was Arpit Aggarwal. He was from our school. 1 week prior to exam, he and the 2009 topper (Nitin Jain, he too was from our school) visited our classroom to give us some tips. I asked Arpit how come he is so sure of topping the exam. He smiled and said that no one else is scoring as much as me from the answer keys.
On the result date, he started to wait for the chairman's call and the call of congratulations did come in the early morning.
What if UPSC too declares Mains marks prior to interview...
CSE aspirants aisa risk nhi lete. Arpit ho ya nitin do no bolenge bhaiya postal hi dilwa do.
» show previous quotesI tried to beautify my answers in the beginning..
Started with question number 20 and backwards..
Had entered exam hall will great plans..
Will sort easy questions first..
Will write key points first..
Proper introduction and conclusion
Write with subheadings
Underlining key words
..
But alas.. all plans fell flat...
Took 12 minutes for first answer..
15 for the second..
N then felt I have lost the race and the anxiety took over.. couldn't recall even obvious points.. like great depression.. treaty of Versailles for world history question..
Don't know how I will score
Bro never go with such an elaborate plan. All these points should be practiced beforehand so much that they get printed on dna. U dont have to think on these points. One must naturally incorporate them in answers
Actually I watched answer writing tips a day before exam..
The experts gave these points and I tried to incorporate them in the first few answers I wrote in the gs papers..
But as I moved on to 5th 6th answer.. it became gibberish
There may be chances that you get good marks if you have written above average in other questions..so there are good chances brother..Baki Kisi ko bhi na pata ki kya work karega kya nh..paper complete karna selection ka assurance nh hai...Dar ka mahol hai..Baki dekhte hai kya hota hai
could not complete 65 marks overall in this mains..feel like i am out of the race ..dont know..
Depends ki kaun sa 65 marks ka attempt nhi kiya. Agar WHO, GDP type k questions chhode hain toh jyada fark nhi padega (considering that k jo time save hua woh dusre questions k quality ko improve krne main ise kiya). Sayad tmhare favor main bhi kaam kr jaaye

population control wala question in GS1, rights india and US GS2, WHO question GS3 and one 10 marker each in GS 4 and optional paper 1
Inn questiosn main exact toh bohot kum ko hi pta hoga. Still around 15 marks ka average se loss hai. Lekin jo time save hua woh agar dusre main marks badha de toh fayda bhi ho sakta. So dusre questions kaise attempt kra h sab uspe depend krega.

Bhakti movement got some inspirations from from Islam but saying it originated due to Islam is too much. If it was the second case bhakti saints would have simply copied texts of quoran. What was the need of compiling divyaprabhandams and tirumurais. Do the complex arguments of Ramanujacharya or shankaracharya find mention in quoran?
Arguments of equality and one god are already there in Rigveda.
https://twitter.com/rishibagree/status/1497825103849025542
Bhakti cult started because they were inspired by Islam which had too much equality and "LIBERALISM" - said a Vision IAS teacher :|
Majority of historians don't accept this view.
She teaches well nd her society lectures are quite good but she leaks her biases too often.
Yes. But the thing is its so wrong factually and logically. You cant go and quote such a thing in the mains answer that islamic is liberalism and reforms were being brought against it. You could have said about Buddhism or Jainism but Islam? A liberal religion? And you are saying it as "bs 19-20 ka fark" and moreover, 19 here is Hinduism and 20 is Islamism according to her. Oh man :||
It's all contextual. We are comparing Islam with present day Hinduism. Back then, in Islam a slave could become the ruler! The "Hindu society" was then caste ridden and rotten with extreme decadence on one hand (tantric cults allowed even for incest) and poor famished untouchables on the other. We were inward looking and without much contact with the outside world (as mentioned by Al Biruni).
BTW, Shankara wasn't a bhakti saint, he was into Jnana marga.
Slaves becoming ruler was an exception or norm? In Hinduism as well such mobility was present.
Marathas belonged to Shudra category who went ritual transformation after Shivaji.
Patidars belonged to Shudra category who achieved status of kshatriya.
Kayastha belonged to Shudra category who achieved the status of dvija born.
Such a mobility was already there in Hinduism.
in anthro, has anyone written NK bose question.
it specifically asked on tribal i think
I attempted this.. I knew only half of it..
It was sort of related to a research paper I guess.. I have skimmed through it few days before exam.. so I wrote as much as I remember.. I dont expect to get more than 3-4 marks in that...
I had attempted this. Since it was specific to tribe content got reduced.
Intro: kha se masters or phd kiya
Influence:
Books: Hindu methods of tribal absorption: detail
Tribal life in india: detail
Ek aur book tha by name geographical background krke.
Fir content khatm ho gya. Toh wapas generic baatein.
Conclusion: did good work....
In sc roy I wrote general points of customary law which we read in political anthropology..kuch different study ki thi kya?

Psir not doing well this year yeh speculation chl rhi h
Wo toh pichle 2 saal se History optional bani hui hai. While people in a thro are easily scoring 250, humare toppers 250-70 me fasse hue hai.
Edit - speculation ek dum galat hai. Meri gut feeling hai is bar PSIR me bhut log 300 paar 😆😆

edukemy has done a good analysis of gs papers.
gs1: there is difference between difficulty and comfortability. a question may look easy in the first go but when one starts to write, he discovers the many layers of the question and finds it tough to answer it. true for almost all questions.
Fir cutoff 700 k neeche pohoch jayega
@zombieland when i look at rau ias solutions, it seems that i have written only a fraction of what they are answering. they should provide a caveat that their answers are meant to score 15/15 and 10/10 and that its not practically possible to execute that much in exam
Model answers are good for notes making. They should not b treated as wat one should write in exam.
@zombieland exactly . even now if i look at the question and see this model answer or whatever mindmap this is, i cant replicate this much info in exam. not in 11 mins.
All points cannot be written..
It's how you prioritise the points that matters..
Yes it is recommended to prioritise points but I was not able to do. There were many questions which required on spot thinking. In such questions i wrote wat struck first in my mind. I did not first think all points nd then pririotized them.
Anyone here who was able to think points nd then priotiotized them?

why is russia not worried about economic sanctions
I assume its Putin's ego now. He thought the entire operation can be done in 2-3 days( ie. replacing the current regime with a pro-Russian Government). He wouldn't have imagined that the entire West would come together so quickly either. However the War has stretched and it doesn't look like ending soon. His reputation has already took a severe hit and he can't turn back now. Besides how much would the sanctions personally impact him?
Russians would be hit hard obviously. The Central Bank might hold for sometime but the economy will fail without a doubt. The Citizens are protesting but all that may not have any short term impact.
Plz someone explain in simple words the impact of sanctions on russia

Western nations shouldn't sanction Russia because this will affect the "Human Rights" of innocent Russian citizens who weren't actually involved. West would be committing great sin if it's sanctions affect day to day lives of russian citizens. And probably Putin understands that.
This is a valid argument. Large anti-war protests r taking place in Russia. Police has cracked down upon those protestors. They r already suffering due to dictatorship of putin. Sanctions will only increase their sufferings. On one hand west is claiming themselves as protector of human rights in Ukraine On the other hand they r committing human rights violation in russia.
I am new to Forum threads. I have a question regarding personality tests. Are questions asked from entire DAF or only from the summary sheet? I wonder if the entire DAF is visible to the board members at all? The DAF contains information regarding caste and categories and I read somewhere that the board is not aware about the reservation of the candidate. If this is the case, then the board must be having limited access to the DAF.
Someone please shed some light on how the process works. The youtube topper mocks have confused me; there the panel has access to the DAF in its entirety.
There is ambiguity regarding access to DAF, some say they only get to have summary sheet, but it would correct to assume they have access to your entire DAF.
Iam not aware of the process in recent years but I believe candidates were called in such a way that gen cat competed the interview process first and later others, this i had read on quora.
Compeltely wrong analysis. I know some general students whose interview was in the last week. U can message me, I can give their name nd marksheet.

That is why I wrote "not aware of the process in recent years"
So if it's not category wise then it must be region wise then. Thanks for correction btw
Its random bro. Region wise call was followed few years back but now even this is not followed. Someone has mentioned that those giving interview in language other than eng r called first
Any idea how many of those who get recommended by upsc appear for the exam again.. I m talking about those who do not get IAS or IFS(it's obvious btw)
My personal opinion.. majority of them try to improve their rank..
But the question is.. how many of them succeed in making it to the list again..
VERY FEW...
Despite knowing what it takes to get into the list they struggle to secure a rank..
Doesn't that signify that this exam is very unpredictable..
Subjectivity of the evaluators and neck throat competition for each mark is what sums up the whole story..
Any comments folks...
I think that if they r able to clear prelims they hv high chance of getting a rank. Bt the trick is in prelims. Role of luck is high there. Also after selection if one gets deviated from study few days before exam there chance reduces ( due to high role of rote memorization in prelims)
*** mann ki baat
intro body concl is told to us to be written at all costs. upsc never said anything on this. i think this is primary reason for missing out on questions due to time issue.
Upsc toh data, committee, scholar, diagram example kuch bhi likhne nhi kehta. Iska mtlb ye thode hi na hai ke ye sab nhi krna hota.
IBC format completion dikhata h. Generally 10 markers m isko skip kr sakte hain bt 15markers m likhba acha rehta h. Aur suppose k ek question m time jyada lg gya toh agle m intro ya conclusion skip kr dete hain time management k liye. At the end max marks body p hi milna h.
Bt list m aane k baad competition 1-2 number ka hota h. 1-1 number pe 8-10 students. Yha aap kuch bhi krke unn 1 number k lead k liye fight maarte ho.
@zombieland I feel conclusion can be skipped due to time issues, especially in 10 marks. But, intro seems to be so much wired in our systems that even time issues don't let us skip it. Also, feel with intri, answer would look very abrupt but without conclusion, not that much.
Its all about time managment and nature of question. In 15 markers IBC format shiuld be left only in exceptional cases.
But many 10 markers r very direct. There even if one dont follow penalty will not b higher. Moreover, tine gained by leavjng IBC format jn some questions can help in attempting more questions.
At the end ome should try to follow IBC format as far as possible. If there is time managmenet issue then IBC format can be left in some questions to cover more questions

» show previous quotes Some argue Aryan invasion theory is true. Some say it was planted to create divide between north and south India. My doubt is after all these many years, does it really matter whether one is Aryan or not !!!Like Ambedkar said, haven't all race got mixed ??
The answer lies in genetics. Romila Thapar's recent book is called which of us are Aryans, which heavily uses the genetic studies conducted at Rakhigarhi (the final study however was unpublished at the time).
I'll share the findings of both the book and the study
1. The Rakhigarhi skeletons did not display any DNA similarity with central Asian, west Asian or any other region claiming to be Aryan homeland.
This was interpreted as a win by both sides🤣. Those who deny the Aryan invasion ( migration is the wider accepted term now btw) said this definitively proves that there was no influx from outside in India while those favouring Aryan influx theory say it proves that the Aryans came later and links them to the vedic civilization ( Thapar's book is basically a work to delegitimize the claims of cultural nationalism that privileges vedic culture as real Indian culture and presents later migrants- Turks, Europeans and those who came before them as outsiders. While the premise is correct, the book ends up focussing too much on the contemporary political narrative around hindutva and ultimately ends up doing something much more sinister- a return to Aryan Identity chauvinism/isolation)
2. The Rakhigarhi skeletons show chromosomal similarity to West Iranians population, however this link precedes the rise of neolithic and agrarian civilizations in Iran, basically the genetic group split before the advent of agriculture and agriculture therefore can be said to have developed independently in India, no role of Aryans or Iranians or any other outsider group in that.
3. Thapar's book and a few articles claim that the author of the Rakhigarhi skeletons study was afraid of the implications of publishing the comparison of DNA of Rakhigarhi V/s that of later north Indians( presumably Aryan) which could have a evoked a backlash from fringe groups, so his study publishes the result partially ( comparisons with post Harappan civilisations are skipped, Thapar however fills this Gap in her book)
4. Now here's the tricky part. Thapar in her attempt to delegitimize the hindutva narrative tries to show the racial distinction not just between north and south India, but also between caste groups.
*North vs South* - considerable genetic differences, one of the key traits is that the ability of North Indians to better digest cow's milk is inherited from a European/central Asian genetic group. The south Indians today (Dravidians as per Aryan Theory) have greater genetic proximity to Harappans(Rakhigarhi skeletons) than the North Indians of today.
*Caste-Race overlap* the north Indians also lack a coherent genetic pool. Brahmins of North India and Jats of North India have distinct genetic proximity to european groups of today( Aryan linkage) than other communities of North India.
This again can be seen to be a result of caste endogamy, and the likely tribal endogamy that preceded it. To this day we can say that Brahmins and Jats are the most conscious social groups when it comes to endogamy so this theory certainly tracks. Rajputs/Kshatriyas have not been included in this Aryan linkage as far as I know, for various reasons.
While the science so far again is solid, the implications it produces may buttress the theory of racial classification of mankind in future. While total racial purity is unlikely to have been maintained, the degree of racial purity(coherence/proximity) is being used as a standard by scholars in contemporary India ( mind you the use of genetic evidence is new territory for indian historians but one with exciting possibilities and so Thapar's work I believe hasn't been given the due importance it deserves).
The problematic thing for me is the linking of racial groups and contemporary political narratives. In the earlier chapters of her book, A scholar M. Witzel charts the probable course of Aryan migration into India, and links their journey to emergence of distinct civilizations. They also try to shift the locus of vedic beliefs towards north west and away from India.
But this leaves us uncomfortably close to the idea of V.C. Gordon about the existence of a master race that was responsible for rise of civilizations. Brahmins, Jats, Rajputs( so called upper castes) continue to be the dominant social groups to this day. After a thorough rebuttal of racial sciences in the aftermath of Hitler's war, I sense we're moving back towards it. I sense it was acceptable to Thapar in order to bring Hindutva closer to Nazism. The data is already there for appropriation, racial science is entering political narrative again, and can either be used for or against specific racial groups.
What's written above is from an academic stand point and heavily imbued with my personal biases. I claim no laurels of rationality and neutrality although I've tried to stick to them by my own standards. Hope you people find this interesting
Even if aryans invaded or not they r as Indian as someone else. Many tribes in North-East migrated to present location in last 1000 years. So can we call them as invaders or outsiders?
For how much year one should live in a region to b called as native? The same authors who r spending day n night to prove north indians nd upper caste as outsiders will try to prove how much Indian Turks and Mughals are.
The so much interest in Aryan invasion theory is nothing but deep sense of hatred aginst indian culture among few intellectuals. The urge to gain western appreciatiom has forced such people to claim India is nothing but a backward country nd a foreign culture has been imposed on it since vedic civilization.
@Sahilkumar Haan post normalization/moderation ,effectively 3.5/4 for average answers 4/4.5 for good 5-6 for excellent answers.
Then we should calculate our marks considering normalization. I think
Good answer: 5 nd 7.5
Excellent: 6 and 8 or 8.5
Average: 4
Poor attempt: 3
Namesake 2
Just wrote any thing like just gdp definition in q1 of gs3: 1
0 is generally not given in subjective paper
This is something that's troubled me for a while now. What if the evaluators actually read our answers scripts thoroughly. Maybe it's all about the content and coherence. We may have a lot of content which is really not of much coherence. An average answer has to satisfy the demand too. I mean of it really was about sticking to ibc, using diagrams and flowcharts, and other ptesent
@Chanakya bhai itne direct questions m coherence ki kha dikkat aa gyi. GS3 toh poora factual bna diya hai.
@Forumite Hopefully 95~ atleast for ppl who have attempted all questions addressing the demand with basic contentBut it baffles me when someone says they have left 1 1/2 Qns but still score 100+ , maybe presentation and stats have higher weightage I guess
The words *addressing the demand with basic content* are very very subjective.. n most difficult to achieve..
All those who attempt mains should get 95 in all papers by this logic..
Many toppers..like AIR 65.. scored 75 in GS 3 in 2019.. how do we explain that then
Bhai kitne log gs3 m sare qiestions m basic demand fulfill kr paayenge iss saal? 4-5 sawal toh aate hi nhi hain. Usme average nhi kuch bhi content likha hota hai. Toh marks bhi waise hi aate. Selected logo k bhi 90 se kum aate hain.
3 ghante main 20 questions main saare questions ka demand address krna bohot badi baat hoti hai. Sab nhi kr paate. Bohot toh last k 15 minute m 5 sawal attempt krte hain. Toh sbhi ko 95 bhi nhi aata.
Unrelated to the marks discussion, but just read the case of Aashima Goyal (CSE-2019). It was because of wrong usage of EWS certificate that she was denied the service. I personally know A LOT of candidates, who are otherwise serving in the grade pay of 5400 (approx monthly gross income 80K-100k), who are claiming such EWS quotas. They say that they are on probationary period and hence this and that. One person I know got into the top-3 service in EWS category but did not join because he feared that later on he may be caught. The other person I know comes from an affulent family and was earning 75,000 pm in 2016 and resigned in 2020, still claimed EWS.
Now the point is, the candidates shall be asked to submit EWS certificate prior to Mains, to expedite and weed out the non eligible students. These RICH people and eating away the benefits of the intended beneficiaries.
I googled about the case. What I don't understand is UPSC asking her to produce the certificate for a different financial year and her reply that she needs more time to apply for it. But to the best of my knowledge, back-dated certificates will not be provided by government offices. UPSC could've rejected the candidature on that ground itself, that she doesn't have the relevant certificate, but they took the extra effort of obtaining ITR details of that year and proved without any doubt that the candidate is ineligible. I feel sorry for her, but I don't think UPSC can be blamed for it in any way.
I think UPSC was quite compassionate in this case. When she said that she was not able to make certificate due to administrative issues, government took the burden of making certificate for that particular year instead of directly cancelling candidature. IT dep conducted detailed enquiry nd came to conclusion that she was not EWS. So, her candidature was cancelled.
This is a welcoming step from upsc and governnent.
@EiChan In 2020 also, she must have given.
No
Rightly said brother , 40% seats. Highest cutoff to cross Yahi reality hai . One distant friend of Mine is from reserved category . No worry of attempt/age , economically well off recently his father bought him ipad . Wahi coaching wahi testes series all facilities available to him .
Bro accept this as a bitter truth. More u talk on this more u vl feel bad. Just accept that u hv to get in top 72 rank to get IAS. Make ur targets accordingly. Realize that u hv no room to commit mistake. So leave this topic. And also discussing on it will not change the reality. Just thank god that there r 40 percent seats available for open competition. Otherwise few years from now it may become just 5-10 percent.
I can't understand how people calculate their gs 4 score.
I never got what i calculated or even closeby that score, the only time It exceeded my expectations was in 2019 when I got 107 but topper was at 160 😹
Haha gs4 is biggest mystery. In first attempt I read Lexicon nd gave exam. Did not remember any definition. Examples were made on spot. Got 94 (2018)
Last year i was prepared. Definition were prepared. Content was better. Still got 94. Although marks in all other papers increased.
For me demand of paper4 is still a mystery.

@zombieland same here bro..GS4 is always a nightmare for me. All through my prep, no matter what I did, I only ended up with average scores(‘in relation to toppers). My scores varied from 67(2017),96(2018), 119(2019), 97(2020), scoring at least 15-20 less than toppers. This year tho..I had no hopes also, as I was literally mindf*cked by gs2 and gs3 and wrote the paper in bot mode without using any mind.Out of frustration, Me and my friends used to call this paper, along with essay as “gas papers”, where more than the amount of knowledge you have, your ability to present(gas up things or “answer writing” or to put it crudely ,bullshitting) matter a lot. And trust me, we spend substantial time reading gs1, gs2 and gs3 a lot (which hardly gives 5-10 marks edge between average paper and extra-ordinary paper), but it’s these gas papers, that will swing our fate in this exam, bringing at least 25-30 marks variation per paper.
I just want to know that shit which gives max marks 🤣
Ethics questions this time were asking 'with illustrations'. that was very tricky to produce hypothetical examples with clock ticking.
This was good only. Generally toppers say that they gave lots of examples. Many candidates donot giv so much examples.
This year they will be forced to write example in many questions. So it can help in bringing in bridging this difference
https://m.jagran.com/lite/bihar/bhojpur-six-people-became-assistant-professor-leaving-the-post-of-dsp-and-deputy-collector-22520958.htmlYou can work in PSC jobs for 25 years, be better than all of your UPSC seniors and still new upsc recruits, who also have studied the same GS, will be promoted before you. They'll get better cars, accommodation and other perks.
They'll be learning the job from you and other underlings not just during training but their entire careers and still won't learn the job. They'll trash your work for not using Bureaucratic English. They'll be sort of managing your day to day work.
Every year you'll have to do Gandhigiri to not get transferred to far flung areas. You'll be forced to do dubious things on command of higher ups. But if you're bent and have no morals this is just a great job and will make you rich.
No such thing in Assistant professor jobs. You may even get the top post one day. People tend to look for jobs where they may reach the top.
Asst Professor means no transfers! Set for life. Lots of free time, and if you're really interested in your subject, many opportunities for research and travel, Plus automatic "Respect" in society. They usually (should) leave it only for IAS/IPS home cadre or IFS.
Are you seriously comparing the respect a Dy SP or SDM gets to whatever an Assistant Professor gets.
Even your father's cousin's friend's son will brag about his father's friend's cousin's son is Dy SP or SDM. These people can get things done. They also lend people money because they generally have surplus cash. Assistant professors are always asking to borrow money. Even their children don't think much of them. That's the ugly truth.
But quality of life and work environment is still a lot better in assistant professor
It wasn't a direct comparison between the "respect" they each get. I was simply saying that all these together may be the reason behind such a decision.
Regarding "respect", we may be comparing apples and oranges here. A college professor, in our society, gets respect for simply being a professor, though he may not be able to help someone in his requirement wrt a government thing. That way a peon in collectorate may be more "powerful" than him and that peon may be able to get things done there which the professor will never be able to, and people in need, may "respect" that peon for that matter. But, these are two different "respect"s.
I have no idea what the offsprings of professors think about their parent and for "surplus cash", the professor will have to write some books or screenplays😅 but, again, the comparison isn't right. What if one isn't interested in that surplus cash? They will be getting UGC scale salary, which is pretty good by any scale in government.
Bro gone r those days when professors were given low salary.
Today their salary is much better. They get lots of allowances. In terms of money, their salary is enough to lead a good life. If they r wise in expenditure they simply dont need to borrow money.
Regarding influence u hv no idea. They can help in making someones carrer. The recommendation of a good professor can easily land someone in prestigious colleges abroad.
Bt since they cannot help in our day to day administartive matters or help in dealing with traffic police or protection from land encroachment, their influence is limited to a very small circle. In contrast even a steno of district magistrate has a much wider influence.
So at the end wat matters is personality while selecting any job
@zombieland cleared NET exam for happiness of family in 2020.- Scored pretty low in Modern History yesterday n was thinking of using the NET certificate.- Google notifications showed some decent vacancies in my specialization.- Entered Forum n saw this discussion.Bahut coincidences. Haha!About Asst. Professor as career, money can never be an issue in comparison to an ethical/honest civil servant. For me inner satisfaction is the issue otherwise amazing opportunities!
See this case of inner satisfaction is good for those candidates who have clear cut goals in life. The problem of choosing a career is not for them. If one feels good as a prof then try for it.
Here we r more concerned about such candidates who r not clear abt their career. They r seeing pros nd cons of various fields and accrodingly choosing one field. Here various factors like salary, work pressure, political pressure... come into picture. One cannot say such candidates that chose one field that satisfies u when that candidate is not even aware of that field.
After filling top 6-7 preferences in dafII canfidates r more concerned about satisfaction or r following convention? Or on wat criteria one prioritize services after filling top 6-7 choices.
Ppl with previous experience of mains
How much of variation did you see in actual marksheet from your expected conservative marks?
What/How are you improving on since then?
All the best
Based on experience of mine and of my few friends ( many loopholes r there. Gaali mt dena):
In gs our marks were near to wat we used to get in vision test series. ( Full length tests in last month completed in 3hours). Like if one is getting 100 in vision test series then be assured of getting atleast above 90.
Similarly if one is getting above 120 in essay test series, there r very high chances of getting above 120 in real exam. Excpetions r many. Bt i hv seen clear correlation between visionias test marks (as i consider its test series to b most standard) and final marks.
Although there r issues like prelims failed candidates may b checking those copies bt this was my experience.
Yaha pe marks milenge history walon ke...ek 300 wala fir seedhe 240-250 me hai and then lower and lower...
Still history Wale bohot Kam hai jinhone marks share kiye hai, dunno why. Sample is also an issue in all of this i guess.
Edit : i do not see anyone even with disastrous performance below 200 .
Baki opts m kya trend rha ?
Number nhi badh rha. Lagi padi hai
2020 ka anthro sabse tough tha ekdum out of box many questions simply no one knows
jab usme value add karkarke karkarke 320 marks aagaye fir kya raha
topper ne khud bola ki koi book nai padhi thi end to end bas topic wise padhta chala gya
ab dekhlo baki apne optional walo jinko bhi anthro ko girane me mauj aa raha h
Iss baar anthro kaisa rha?

Inn bhai k 270 marks the last time, fir bhi RR Kiya jaa rha h ,btao .
Mere itne hote toh m yha history optional walo k muh hi nhi lgta . 😭😂
Bt marks badh nhi rhe wha se. Stagnant ho gya h
@zombieland okay bhai, itne p hota nhi shyd finally but
Ye minimum marks hai jispe interview call aa jata. IAS k liye sabme above average perform padega. Yaani sabme 5-10 ka increment
@Minato 120+95+95+90+95+125+125
ispe 200 minimum chahiye hoga interview mein to barely make it to the list :P
Toh tmhe sabme minimum wala acha marks lana hai? Maximum (highest) ke disha main bhi udaan bharo
@Minato Then u have to get 105+ in GS 2 or 4.400+ in GS130+ in essay275+ in essayIt still sums up to 805 only.Even after this,u have to score 186 in Interview to top 75 rankIdeally, one should target atleast 820-830 marks .
Mtlb cutoff se 100 marks jyada chahiye IAS k liye. In other words IPS IAS se acha service hai 🤣😅. Mujhe toh IAS chahiye hi nhi.
@Duryodhan gs1 m hi sbse Kam the?
Haa
Kitne? Kya kharab hua tha?
@Duryodhan gs1 m hi sbse Kam the?
Haa
Kitne? Kya kharab hua tha?
74
Ab marks predict krne ka talent toh nhi h mere pas but kharab nhi lga tha paper. Idk maybe society or geography section m pel diya hoga mujhe.
Last 15 minute m 5 question wala issue tha?
um i have a serious doubt can anyone sort it?
just out of curiosity i checked last UR IAS 2020
its rank 78 with general category in service allocation pdf i retrieved from a website.
in the marks allocation the the rank 78 is OBC.
my doubt is: has the OBC candidate taken UR seat?
im confused here
ive checked some toppers of categories other than ur as well in both lists. the category mentioned has not changed in both lists. is it just an error?
aisi sthiti me to life is very tough for non ews general category friends
muje toh stithi hi samajh nai aa rahi h ye
auro ka category waise ka waisa hi bana hua h
yahan category me hi change ho gaya bhai
Mt socho... heart attack aa jayega
@aa12 Yes you are correct, in that scenario UR ranks will go till 75
Certificate ka issue ho gya hoga. Psu m parents ho toh ye issue aata h generally.
Grp A ka equivalent wha kya hoga ncl obc certi m
@Capedcrusader1 yeah 400+280+135
ye to success ka "Toolkit" dedia apne
Isse bhi simple tool kit:: cutoff+100 🤣🤣🤣
@zombieland yea...And actually this year, total vacancies are 712 i guess. UR vacancies will be around 285.To clear mains itself he should be in top 712 out of 9000 odd candidates in mains. (considering they call in 1: 2.5 ratio)😂.Thinking that itself is kind of scary..
Bhai aise sochoge toh bohot darr lgega. Hmesa cutoff k terms m socho.
so for all practical purposes, cutoff ur last ias was 1000
-200 interview me nai aane wale
-820 needs to be in mains.
-optional and essay can shoot marks
Ur candidates cannot under perform in any paper
Yahi to sabse badi samasya hai
Ek galti bh jaan leva sabit hogi UR ke lie
Ye GEMM category General engineer male middle class sabse ghatak hai
Bharat k har exam me iski maar li jati hai
tmne ghao pe namak daal diya
around 19% is the probability of a UR clearing mains if we consider all outcomes equally likely.
(285x2.44)/(9200x0.4)
not counting categories who clear in UR cutoff. then prob will fall.
this prob is all but a farce but for all its worth this is what one can say about numbers in terms of selection
Bro in competition plz dont talk in terms of numbers. It will always seem impossible. 10 lakh candidates and just 72 IAS (for ur it means rank in top 72). Should we even prepare for such a competition?
Better think in terms of marks. If one got 790 last year. Think wat needs to b done to get 836. Then competition will become bit doable

I may be wrong, but I believe this is how it works.
If someone has cleared UR cutoff, they will be allocated service from UR category. However, if their 1st or subsequent preference (service or cadre) is not getting satisfied from UR and if it is available in their category, then they will get the seat from their category.
This is reason why general category candidates are more in reserved list declared later as some general seats remain unfilled due to use of category by higher ranked candidates.
It might have happened that AIR 78 would have got preference in UR itself and there was no need of category or post verification, OBC certificate would not have been eligible or even a typo.
Only service and not cadre. They can get service from unreserved category but cadre from reserved ones.
optional ka baat ho rha h einstein
sorry rahul baba..
@chikuiasbano in my view ..In comparison with last time .Essay : difficultGs 1 : same levelGs2 : easierGs 3 : difficult than last timeGs4 : easierOptional : easier .
GS4 kha se easy lga bhai. Itna lamba case study aur questions m itne subparts. Sare parts address kro toh time jyada lag ja rha.
Case study m time jyada lga toh 10 markers ka quality compromise ho gya.
Agar last year question tough tha toh iss baar time management k wajah se tough ho gya

*unpopular opinion*
Is bar case studies choti thi lekin sawal confusing the. kai bar to samajh nahi a raha tha ki aur extra kya likhe answer me. jaise ke unhone is bar 5/6 me course of action nahi pucha. bas option puche aur usme hi khelte gye. case studies itni choti thi ke questions ke answer ke liye content kam pad raha tha😂😂😂
Case studies m bohot sochna pad rha tha. Last year ethical issues aur course of action poocha tha. Ethical issues k kuch keywords rehte unhi pe sochna jita hai.
Iss baar har part m alag se dimaag lgao
Anthro me avg, above avg, good answers me kitne marks expect kr skte hain?
Avg: general content along with irrelevant one or two points.
Above avg means content similar to akshat book plus one two examples
Good attempt: above avg + contemporary case studies also mentioned
Paper 1 main kha kha contemporary case studies likha?
@Minato Civil engineering me to pata nahi kis nashe ka sewan karke paper 2 set kiya hoga😆.Not just tougher but probably toughest paper 2 tha.
Bro there is no relation between toughness of optional paper and marks that a student gets.
In tough paper if one is able to write something relevant to a question and not perfect, even then he will get good marks. And scaling takes care of any shortcoming.
Problem is with easy or conventional paper. Even a candidate who has not prepared hard will attempt all the questions. Bringing any difference becomes tough. Marks get averaged out.
So in both the cases a candidate with strong grip will excel by writing something relevant in tough paper or bringing difference in case of easy paper
bhai ncert bhi wahi..anyway leave
Bhau aap research karlo na. Aap ke dimag me cukt ka kya meaning aata hai isse scholarship thoda ne decide hogi. What does the term mean in sociology and anthropology wo mujhe pta nhi. Aap elaborate kro kya difference hota hai i am assuming anthro me toh ye sab bhut padaya jaata hoga
Yeah we should stick to original meaning and not wat people generally understand from that word.
For example: Mahatma Gandhi believed in communalism because he believed in freedom of country (common to other citizens of country).
Similarly we find frequent mentioning of Nehruji as communal due to his shared idea of modern India.
In India liberals frequently associate this term with personalities like Hamid Ansari.
@Forumite right iss baar easier paper m narrow difference h logo k marks m
Aise main interview ka role bohot badh jata h. Kuch log disproportionately jyada benefit utha lete hain.
140 to 215 ka range. Zindagi barbaad ho jaye kisi ki
@Duryodhan chandrakanta ka krur singh
@zombieland form m aa gye h agog bhai .
Ek baar apni agogian script m kuch likh di yr
Bhai upsc ka danda gadhe ko ghora bna de. Script toh choti cheese hai. Script bhi change ho gya.
@zombieland but zombies abhi bhi dead hain😝Rudra pe kuch tippani kijiye shriman savinay nivedan hai.
Army of dead dekha? Zombies bhi ab intelligent ho gye hain. Strategy, romance aur revenge teeno krte hain🤣🤣🤣

Bhaktiyar khilji ke baare me padha, he burnt down Nalanda in 1200 ce, obviously reason was to scare the population into submission and destroy the intellectual resistance.
If kisi ne JL mehta padhi hogi to u will know he talks about holocaust during establishment of Islamic rule.
Around the same time Mongol invasions shuru hue the, central Asia me where the tradition was to kill everyone who resisted. Khwarizm empire ko destroy karne ke strategy zabardast thi. They destroyed every city in Persia at that time and killed large population.
Now the point where Bhaktiyar khilji is relevant here is Siege of Baghdad 1259, if u read it you will know that it is end of Islamic golden age, Islamic literature ka hub Baghdad me tha, Mongols burnt down the library which continued for many days( just like Nalanda), this apart from killing of entire Baghdad population, killing of Caliph by trampling horses over him.
This when Mongols wre yet to accept Islamic faith btw.
The point iam trying to make is, RW Wale usually try to draw conclusions based on some historical facts for which they try and draw a historical responsibility of present day Muslim population in the subcontinent.
We all draw conclusions according to what suits our logic, above mentioned sari batein facts hai
To agar:
1. Ye kaha jaye ki battle tactics like killing entire towns and cities were common in that time, can it be said to be correct? Is this perspective modern one or medieval one?
2. Do Persian and central Asian population still abhor their Mongol history?
Main kisi ki side nahi le raha hu, bas ye bata raha hu history ko apne tarike se interpret karke samjhane Wale bohot authors milenge, lekin as said ki apne ko bhi ye dekhna hai ki which one seems more credible.
Teacher chahe jo bhi bataye, lekin marks lane ke liye kya likhna hai ye bhi hume hi sochna padega.
So in baghdad is there any prominent place named after Genghis khan like bakhitiyarpur station in Bihar?

Pata lagega to bata dunga Bhai.. waise ye sure hai ki india ne Iraq me jo railway line banayi thi 70s me wo saari USA ne uda di thi.
Like bola hai bhai. Nadi, nala, jila, gaon, kasba kuch bhi. Jaroori thode hai ki railway station hi uske naam pe ho.
@RaGa I don't know what has been hidden. What people want in history books : how much muders did Mughals did or what ? Even a 6th grader is taught how Ghazni, Ghori and Aurangzeb did so much destruction to hindu temples etc. Don't know what would a rightist historian want to do more to this. Moreover, the medieval times were different. Suppression and Repressions were different. Modern morality and securalism, which themselves are modern ideas, must not be stretched that far to apply to them. What the rightists then want is just divide the faultlines more just to legitimise the march towards their dream of la la land! How the whole controversy created over Aurangzeb road.Further, people are so excited to know the source of what a teacher says in classroom but the same people would justify the jewels of cloud 🤣🤣 technology etc etc bestowed by the great leader. Moreover, this is just a well scripted attempt to dismantle institutions and make them pro-Hindu/right. What they tried doing in JNU, JAMIA etc. The govt officials being involved. Ist step is create madness over social media. Second is IT raids. Never saw govt machineries being misused to this extent.
Kisi reputed coaching class like visionias m jewels of cloud technology padha rhe jaisi video wali mam farzi knowledge de rhi?
i read in his blog he scored around 60s in gs3 vision ias test series ended up getting 117 in actual gs3
Coaching ke evaluation scam hai , can't be correlated to actual exam performance
Mtob obviously ek level pe ane ke lie it definitely helps . Starters ke lie khaskar .
But after a certain level . Performance reflect hogi mains me can't be said .
Also it depends on type of Q asked in mains , ab kisi ko gdp wala points yaad hoga ache se uske No to milenge hi .
And tests series me aisa W ye saal shyd h aya ho kisi me
maxm jagah restricted mentality se check krte hai jo model ans me nh likha wo likh dete hai remark mai .
Ans ki originality pe marks nh dete , moreover maxm cases me senior aspirants h check kr rhe hote hai.
Originality , innovation , understanding , to the point answer and basic structuring ye marks dilwata hai upsc me .
What do you mean by originality of content in GS?
What I do is- for ex I read static portion of GS3 as well as current affairs. I mug up facts. I read multiple times to memorize points. I understand them as well. In paper as per demand of the question i use the content that I hv studied.
As per u this content is original or duplicate?
i read in his blog he scored around 60s in gs3 vision ias test series ended up getting 117 in actual gs3
60 was in first test. In second it was between 105 to 110.

Galti ho gya maalik. Kisi aur topper ka yaad reh gya.

@D503 bhai dot mar kr kyu bhaga?
@Bubba_gump Bhai humanities optionals me preparation me time lagta hoga revision me nahi.In Maths and Engineering, even if u study optional for 12 hrs daily,it will still take atleast 30-35 days for one round revision. So that means, it takes 400 hours of study just for one round of revision despite of the fact that u have studied it for years.I have studied civil engineering for years but still i had to give 6 7 hours daily to civil engineering just to revise it 1.5-2 times in this mains. That means i had to give 600 hours just to optional.I m not aware of any humanities optional where you need that amount of hours.Kindly enlighten us if that's the case.
From perspective of an average candidate ( not Kaniskha kataria iit rank in top 50)
One should maths or engg optional only if he is extremely good at it. If one gets average number in maths optional say 240 to 250 then it is very difficult to make it into the list (general category).
This is so becoz of their very high demanding nature the marks in other papers suffer. Moreover knowledge of optional is of no use in other papers.
Better choice for such candidates in humanities optional
Mathematics optional main bhi bohot ratta maarna hai. Agar jm kr ratta nhi lga paaye toh gs ka paper khatm hote hote poora mathematics bhool jate log. Fir marks lower extreme pe aa jayega.
Main toh 4 attempt anthro se de chuka hoon. Mathematics se chota syllabus hai. Tb bhi bhoool jaate. Darr hi lga rehta hai. Bt marks har bar badh rhe hain. Bas iss baar bhagwaan thoda aur badha dain.
Mathematics main marks ki assurity toh hai bt mere liye niche wala extreme ka assurity hai.
@Shubz In psir, there is a guy who got 300 in one attempt and then, in 2019, got just 110 😑. Epic.
300 laane k baad bhi Clear nhi hua kya woh
Jhuth toh nhi bola k 300 aaye hain ?
Anthro m possible hai 300 se 210 jana (considering evaluation pattern same). Thoda sa relax hona aur sab bhool jao. Answer ka quality compromose ho jata hai. Ratta bohot hai. Toh prelims k time bhool jaate hain. Prelims k baad agar ache se ratta nhi maara toh bohot se content yaad bhi nhi aate.
Bt 300 se 110 toh bohot muskil h
@zombieland isme lineage clan phratry moiety ana tha na?
Han bas unilieal aur bilateral likhna tha. Unilineal k under clan... explain kr do
@Capedcrusader1 i didnt make skull diagram.. Made some diagrams related to bipedalism and cultural tools. Skull wale bnane jaruri the kya?
Bhai jaroori kuch nhi hota. Bnata toh sayad 0.5-1 number jyada milta
erectus me discuss phylogenetic status me seedha diagram banaya final wala 3 branch
yehi karna h na bas
Maine bhi yhi kiya. Last ka ek page bacha tha toh. Yhi diagram bna.
Bt solution m log debate wala bol rhe likhne. Two views dene the sayad
debate likhne ka bola nai h q me
and two, pages kam pad jayenge you have to write 3 things properly
yar time issue nai gya tumhare sath?
Phylogenetic status ko lekar jo views m debate hain woh likh sakte the. Bt ye question khud 20 number ka ho jayega. Aur jo diagram bnate hain woh most accepted hai. Toh sayad yhi shi h.

han bhai
maine 30-40 khopidiya banayi thi
matha kharab ho gaya extra paper lena pada
Khopdi se itna pyaar kyu hai. Chhod deta. Linea aspera, dentition, taurodentism... inn sabka easy wala bna deta

nai bhai
main examiner ko mamu nai samajhta
ki ek haddi banayi aur usme ek line marke bol dia ye dekh linea aspera
Bhai ye mamu bnana nhi hua. Time bachana hota h. Jb likhoge linea aspera developed aur diagram bnaoge toh femur m x shaped projection hi dikhaoge. Diagram easy h toh hm kya kre
Anthro paper esp 10 marker specific rehta hai, agar na aye to 4 line likhna bhi mushkil hai.
Unlike history ,jaha pe kuch to pel sakte adhe page ka agar pata bhi na ho to.
Edit: Mera btw history hi hai, respect for all the optionals🙏
Arey nhi bhai. Sab individual pe depend krta hai. Hm toh specific m bhi likh dete hain. 1number toh de de.
Last year q1 (compulsory) main 4 aate nhi the. Term hi zindagi m 1st time sune the. Ab 40 number blank toh chhod nhi sakte. Aise m generic likh dete.
Example: natufian culture: genric tools like hand axe, political, social organization likh diye. 1 toh dega.
1 question tha victor tuner and liminality. Second term ka meaning pta nhi tha. Toh victor turner ka contribution likh diye. 1-2 toh milega
@Capedcrusader1 This problem was in many questions.Ethics ka last case study tha Pawan waalaOptions kya hain ,then what should Pawan do,fir apna advice and then trainingSabme overlapping points the.Similarly 1st and 2nd case studies.Critically evaluate Options me points repeat hote hain Ek ka merit and doosre ka demerit. Then again justification me usi types ke points aate hain.
This is what made case studies lengthy. In each part we needed to think more. This took lot of time. Compared to last year when case was lengthy but questions were short.
Doubt regarding statistical error committed in exam,
In 14FFC Qn ,I wrote 41% share instead of 42% ,confused after reading in news the Kashmir 1% devolution etc in 15FFC
In S400 ,I have written 600km defence radius etc in a guesswork
In WHO AQ ,in addition to writing facts on Particulate matter details I wrote Lead etc as key pollutants
I might have even written these in black
Based on previous experience/test series exp , What would be the maximum reduction if one writes such erroneous data?
In these questions ask how much marks they will give nd not hw much they will cut.
India specific enhancements suggest krne ke liye hi upsc ne pucha hai ye ques.
Seriously aisa expectation. 7 minute m aisa kya suggestion dega koi.🙄🙄🙄🙄
I have interacted with around 20 mains candidates.. including few on this forum through chat..
Around 80% of them said that they have performed well and are expecting around 270+ in optional and 130+ in essay..
In GS .. Expectation of around 400 is common among candidates this year..
So point I m making is..
Many are expecting 800+ this year.. whether they get or not is altogether a different story..
Expectations are higher this year than previous.. this shows paper was easier this year atleast as per the perception of the candidates..
PS.. I m not exaggerating.. stated what I have observed..
On a lighter note-
There is a saying in law - " A man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client"
It may be modified to - " A man who is his own paper checker has a fool for an aspirant "
One who cannot estimate his/her performance is not an expert either.. it is not wrong to be able to make a rational analysis of performance..
Some people are trying to project as if those guessing their marks are fools and only they are smart.. but actually it's other way around...
I believe that we must try to analyze our performance and if possible try to give marks. It may not help in this attempt but is useful in analyzing performance which can help in next attempt. It helps in knowing wat works in real exam and wat not. Once marksheet is out, these calculations will b key in improving marks in next attempt.
If one doest not unserstand how much marks he should give, then as a benchmark one can give maximum 50 percent in any question. Please dont enter into debate of wat is perfect answer as there is no unique answer to this question. If u feel that u hv addressed demand of the question then give urself maximum marks.

hahahaha hank bhai personal le liya tumne but hum nahi lenge. Ye khela kai baar dekh chuke hain cut-off, good answer, bad answer, tough paper easy paper. I say with confidence of an expert that rational analysis in this exam is not possible at all. Baaki haan anxiety hoti hai to hum bhi thoda calculator chala lete hain but deep down pata hai ki it is futile excercise. Lekin to each their own. Khela chalte rahna chahiye.
Personal nahi liya..
Jaisa comment tha waisa reply diya.. befitting reply..
That's all
Hahahah Hank bhai bahut gusse mein ho, humesha rahte ho ya last 100 hours ki bechaini hai. Chalo jo bhi aapka be-fittting reply dekh lia humne. Thank you. Apna calculator chalate rahiye.
Ye raat bhari antim raat... sunna start kr de?
@zombieland worst came after selection. Filled wrong service preferences after top 5 services. Got recommended. Celebration and social media hype and all locally. Ultimately, didn't join the allotted service (IIS) and now answering everyone why I didn't join after clearing "IAS exam" and why I'm still here (state Group B). Own decision to not join and stay back here considering lot of factors. Happy about it.However, hate myself for not thinking much while filling up preferences.
Wat was the issue wrt preferences?

As per you wat should b d preferences after IRS?
The only two services, which won't see any reduction in power, in my opinion are the IPS and IA&AS. IPS, because police is a necessary evil, and "powerful leaders"(who are on the rise all over India) like to keep police on their side.IPS will see an increase in power in the future.
IA&AS will remain the same, as it's the only service in the list which has some kind of constitutional backing (CAG), and if their powers are reduced, will result in huge political furore.
IA&AS is a powerful post..
Nice try dude..
First time heard that..
Nobody cares about them btw..
They keep looking for some calculation mistakes in accounts books.. but guess what..due to digitization that scope has ended..
All they get is chai nashta lunch from the pocket of staff members of the office where they audit ..that is all
System audit can't replace human audit, unless the AI becomes powerful enough. System can throw out the discrepancies in numbers, but it requires a human to make sense of it and arrive at good conclusions.
Bhai IAAS ka main benefit is just fast promotions. Rest itna koi audit ka power nahi hota bas thodi nuisance value hai wo bhi bohot jyada nahi hai. People in field are well aware of rules so audit doesn't scare them much.
I don't think so. Everyone in government are afraid of "audit guys". People make sure that they are given the best vehicles, accommodation, liquor (and money too) etc, so that nothing bad gets written about them on file. So many rules are out there, and so much interpretation that it doesn't matter even if you're 100% honest; and in govt, so many are corrupt.
Well maybe so. I didn't see such Khauf of Audit people. I have only seen people treating them as minor nuisance. And audit doesn't say anything about a person, may make comments on some decisions which as I said are routine objections just minor inconvenience.
But sarkari babus r very afraid of minor comments as well. Those who are well connected may consider audit walas as minor nuisance but for others they r a much bigger matter.
By the way..
Those claiming to have not joined the services after getting recommended are quiet about sharing the marks they scored..
Only talk about the posts.. because sharing marks will expose them..just like DKT
Ab itna bhi koi asambhav kaam nahi hai service mein select hokar join na karna. Agar koi already state PCS mein hai to IAAS k neeche ki service ko join karne mein jyada sense hai nahi. Aur ye "koi bhi service mil jaae" waali feeling bas rank na aane tak rehti hai. Jin din IIS/ICLS/IPTAFS type kuch join kar loge to day 1 se galiyan doge service ko aur bahar nikalne ka jugaad dhundhne lagoge.
I know a lady who didn't take up IRAS (she was a doctor). Turned out to be a good decision.
Also seen someone not taking IDAS (already in RBI). Seen someone joining training for an accounts service and then go back to state service.
After IRS and in some cases after IRTS and IAAS people start prefering post of SDM and DySP over other central services
@zombieland what about ifos, is it generally preferred over sdm
I hv never met any such candidate.
But i will consider ifos over sdm
@Sopranos Kuch nahi ayega. 🤭🙏
Nahi aaega to evening mein insiders ko gariaaenge sab milkar. Kuch 'exciting' hoga is thread par, nahi to saari services ko ek ek karke decimate kar rahe hain log. Aisa chalta raha to kai log mains clear hone par interview dene hi nahi jaaenge.
Bhai sab relative hai.
Jinka mains clear nhi hua: woh mains cutoff ko sub-conciously target krtr hain jaise k 1 number se clear ho jaye toh selection ho jayega.
Jinka mains clear hua aur selection nhi hua. Woh last rank ko target krte hain. Chahe last rank wale ko AFHQS hi milta ho is rank pe.
Jinko service mil gya woh apne se upar preference wale ko target krenge aur niche preference wale ko thoda kum aakenge.
Bas lyf aise hi chalti jayegi.
Bt mere jaise log jinhone kaafi attenpt de diye without selection unke liye koi rank aa jaaye yhi maayne rakhta hai. Ek honourable exit k liye.
