@SunnyParashar I don't have interview experience but believe such questions are what checks personality. You don't have to JUSTIFY them. It is your decision. Your reasoning. Give the honest reason why you were at home. They may not agree with your approach to life but they will respect it as your decision. You have to display rationality and conviction here.
If they say you wasted talent. Just give a polite and humble smile.
@ssver2 it does not appear as a mistake by the board member. He didn't say that it was a documentary. He made a statement and asked a question. Not necessary for the statement and question to be linked.
@SergioRamos even I haven't faced one. Who knows if they want you to know or not ? All we know is what the candidate coming out interprets and tells which may be totally erroneous.
Ultimately it is a game of perception in those few minutes. Why take the risk ? Best is to cover as much ground as possible. Be safe than sorry.
@Patootie we don't know if that's how the interview board thinks. These are all conjectures.
But even if they do I don't agree with this viewpoint. The Cab Secy and lawyer examples are invalid as they are in professional sphere. Here we are discussing hobbies. Activity one does in their leisure time. I personally believe that hobbies are outliers and the rest of the interview questions is what matters more.
