[Official ] Interview Preparation 2021 - Ask Questions, Debates and Doubts, Hobbies, Home State

@ssver2 Bhai same case read some books here and there(Harrari's, Sen's etc.) but not enough to write reading non-fiction as a hobby- probably in the same boat as you of pretending to know stuff :p

I think@Neyawn sir,@AzadHindFauz and some seniors who already have experience of giving interviews may guide us better.

I haven't given interview yet. I might be in the same boat as you. Can we work together?

Let's brainstorm what all areas could be asked. One topic at a time- graduation subject, work experience, hobbies, home state etc. Before we do that, let's go through the threads@Neyawn sir has shared + the interview transcripts. Then, we can plan accordingly. Preferably 2-3 days for a topic.

IAS>IPS>IRS>IFS

Optional: PSIR

What could be the best way to defend this preference?

@Neyawn it would be of great help if you could tell how much specific one should get while writing hobbies.. for instance, writing ' 'cooking' vis a vis 'cooking different types of rice/snacks' or 'Cooking Chinese cuisine'.

I personally think mentioning a specific hobby could be one way to attract the attention of the board. If you're really good at it, it could be a bonus. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

I was thinkingto write 'English Football'. I've been a big fan of Arsenal since 2004. So, I think I know English football inside out!

This might have a negative spillover too. For example, in my case, if the board asks me about Indian football, I'd draw a blank. (I'll prepare this area though)

Your Chinese cuisine is my English football!

So, yes! The question remains- Specifics over generic or vice-versa?

Delhi government started free travel for elderly to Ayodhya Temple. Does it against principle of secularism, equality etc ?? What should be answer in interview?@Neyawn

Whatever you say is right as long as it does not smack of your political ideology or biases. What is the official reason Delhi govt has?

I think we can use the principled distance model of secularism to handle this question. A key facet of governance is satisfaction of the citizens. The government here intends to cater to the faith of its citizens. It does not associate itself with any specific religion while doing so.

The scheme assists the economically weaker senior citizens who are the residents of Delhi to visit a choice of their pilgrimage. It is a one-time facility only. The routes chosen under the scheme cover Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist sites as of now. Moreover, it does not lay down any specific religion-based criteria to undertake journey in any route.

Anyone having 'listening to sufi music/ Qawwali/ Ghazals' as a hobby? What kind of questions can one expect? Also, where to prepare the theoretical aspects of sufi music from?@Neyawn

My roommate gave CAPF interview this year. He had mentioned Sufi music/ Qawwali in the hobbies section. He says they asked following questions-

1. Did Sufi tradition originate in India or came from abroad?

2. Features of Qawalli- what is Alap, why it is sang in a group etc. (He thinks one of the members was looking up the internet to frame questions, so he suggests reading the first two search pages related to these topics)

3. Famous Qawalli group? Why is it more popular in Pakistan and not so in India?

4. Do you see the influence of Sufi in Bollywood? Where?

Why would you like to do this ?

Even I saw in few of the mocks where the panel asks to- 'comment on the role ( practically speaking) you'd likely play in your first and subsequent postings.'------->for different services.

I'm not sure whether UPSC panel asks this question.

@AzadHindFauz  Oh, I thought you said panel. Re- read it. Mock panel.

It's comforting to know the board does not grill over this thing. I am just preparing the hierarchy and their broad roles.

Logically there has been an error by the technicians. Post grad seems to imply your degree. Which you get post graduating. Not marksheets or provisional certificate. The minimum educational qualification for this exam.

In the next check box upload all certificates of achievements by combining the pdfs into one. They wanted to say that individually convert your pdfs into greyscale and then combine into one. Its the second instruction on the upload document page.

But they couldbt communicate it properly i think.

Tl dr- upload degree under 1st check box, certificates under 2nd after combining into single pdf

1. There's no error. We have uploaded our undergraduate degree with DAF I. That suffices. This is for those who check the box for having done their post graduation as well (like me). We have to upload the PG degree in support of that too.

2. The other certificates are not necessary to be uploaded with the second link. The DAF II gets submitted even without them. Did this last year, faced no issues (same columns were present in last year's DAF too)

This is helpful. Thank You.

Are people preparing their grad subjects? Esp engg & no work exp? Should it be done?

I got my hands on the MadeEasy brief for mechanical engineering. I am planning to do it to brush up on the basics like laws of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc., things that a class 12th student knows too. I realised I've been so immersed in doing humanities that those simple concepts do not come to my mind easily. I think a cursory glance would do.

If they dig deep, I'd be saying a 'No' with a smile! At this stage, I do not think we can do engineering subjects in detail. The booklet however can be done in 3-4 days.

I think 'No' is fine if one has not graduated recently. I graduated in 2016.

Mine is on 8th June. I would be going all-out for CA for each subject until my interview. Reading static would not be of much use at this point given we have had enough exposure already. Post 8th, all the static notes + CA notes till 27th along with Forum Simulator tests. That's it!

June 16th 😬 does anybody have any advice on balancing prelims + interview preparation?

Wait for someone experienced to chip in but i had planned on dividing time 2:1 for pre:interview. My to do for pre would include basic books and pt 365 and then vision+forum tests and previous years.Till 2 weeks before interview. 100 percent interview focus for 2 weeks. Then 100 percent pre after interview (duh 😀)

Ca is common. Basics are common. Infact on the brighter side you will be forced to study topics in depth which one normally wouldnt. Boon for the type of pre they are asking these days.

*pinch of salt* whatever happens whoever advises u etc follow your own gut if u feel u r not doing justice to the interview prep. Interview>>>>>>>next pre in my humble opinion. Atb.

Ppl like me are having their own dilemma. The period after interview is anxiety laden. No real benefit for pre prep. Mind would be distracted for result. Plus so little time for interview prep. Feeling anxious. Need to start doing yoga. Less than a month to go.

I've been doing Surya Namaskar + Pranayam + Bhramari ( 2 sets ) lately. Today was the 4th day.

Lethargy is gone and mental alertness is back. Give it a try. You may start off with Pranayam + Bhramari only if Surya Namaskar makes you uncomfortable.

PS: I was never a 'Yoga person' until now.

Is there any relation between order of interview i.e interview dates and marks of mains exam?

No. I believe the dates are allocated in a way that ensures candidates being interviewed on each day come from different regions. So, the allocation is most likely based on the roll number of the candidates. I saw this pattern in the last few years. Not more than 4-5 candidates from Delhi in each slot. (The code 08 gives it away)

This ensures a diverse set of candidates are interviewed each day. I reckon the idea behind this is to maintain the same standard of comparison throughout the interview process.
