I met a wonderful student yesterday. Depression is much around us. This man had cleared the exam , rang the success bell at forumias last year and I was expecting him to be happy. When I asked how did you feel after getting a rank, he said Sir "numb". Felt nothing. In fact I just came to say Thank you. So I may have even sounded rude when folks asked me to ring the bell.
I said - go and take a break. Goto FC. Enjoy for a year and come back to the exam if you feel like. He said Sir, I have cleared prelims last year interview in 4-5 days. I have plenty of time this year. Want to make it count. :-(
Why is GenZ more depressed? What do you think?
I do not know the medical science reasons behind clinical depression. But general thngs that can affect mood is
- too much screen time
- lack of phsyical contact with nature such as trees, soil, grass etc
- lack of meaninhful realtionships ( people meeting, but looking at the mobile )
- general meeting of basic needs, which sometimes allows us to focus on the invisible aspects of health such a mental health, which would be ignored if there was fight for basic needs.
- high amount of pressure to deliver in day to day life
P.S. I am not undermining the problem. I met another candidate whom I gifted a book. Its a life transforming one. At least it has been for the 10 odd people i gifted it to.
I felt he would not read the book. Its a small and easy read.
He is also a selected student, but working for rank improvement and was a little low
And this happens today!
