[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

From being an absolute noob who didn't know where the different states were on a map to becoming someone who knows the history, geography, Economy and polity of India!

Everyone of us must congratulate ourselves for the efforts we've put in our preparation. It's been a long journey for each one of us. And soon our journeys will meet their respective destinations. Some might have rested in between like that rabbit from that ancient story. Some have been consistent but slow like me(a kachua from the same old story). I also want to rest now it's been a tiring month for meu But the race is yet to finish. And i am unable to see it's end from this point in time.

My mind wants me to leave all this and enjoy life but my heart is in the preparation. Even after how much i cry and rant about this process, say that i don't care or i can't do this. Somewhere deep down my soul knows that "agar mujhse nahi hoga toh kisi se bhi nahi hoga".

During this process I've realised that i might be that kachua from that tale but the rabbits are not my competitors (other aspirants), it's my self doubt, my negative thinking, my habit of self criticism. I need to make them rest along the way till i reach my destination.

It would be the same case with most of us. We judge and criticize ourselves before we can be officially judged in the exam. Let's stop doing this now. Let's keep moving forward with whatever pace we're comfortable in. It's not a race of turtles and rabbits but it's a race of ourselves with our own deep rooted insecurities, our fear of unknown, lack of self discipline, patiance and our habit to find happiness in "things" rather than in ourselves!

With the experience of many failures in life I've come to a conclusion, i would like to put it in one line. That is "Conquer yourself, the world is within you!"

All the best for the exam!

PS: i failed to Conquer myself this time. I studied beyond my usual capacity in the previous month and took so much pressure that it worsen my health to a point that now I'm thinking about skipping this year's attempt!

@TabsAndChords general category seems like a curse now.
No offence to anyone! But it's a sad state of reality.
Discrimination in the name of affirmative action!

Bro I am scoring 90+ and having sleepless nights while one of my friend who studied half as me is sleeping like a baby because he is getting 80 which is sufficient for him.

Abuse me now.

Saala TISS ka exam diya last year usme bhi same hua. I got 68 while cut off was 70 for general. Meanwhile a known person got 51 and went to give interview. All hail socialism and caste politics :)

I can feel you bro!

It's been happening with me too! This reservation is dividing people more than assimilation! It's another kind of divide and rule policy than the ones used by the Britishers!! But nothing can be done now. We have corrupted this system to it's core!

Yes without any offence to anyone, yesterday I was just imagining if I were an SC/ST candidate no tension of cut off, attempt etc. I am not against reservation as such but it should be rationalised, like creamy layer in SC/ST, decreasing it to

30% etc. Again I don't want to hurt anybody sentiment.

I don't think you have to justify yourself too much here. Even the reserved candidates would agree that they wouldn't want to be on the other side of that 50% in present circumstances..

Why these days are so depressing?? Is here anyone who's feeling the same? I'm not able to connect with anyone after the exam. As if the purpose for which i was working hard for many months has ceased to exist! As if somebody snatched something out of my hands. And i could do nothing but watch like an idiot.

I don't understand why coaching institutes have become a means to get to the end of our journey!!

Do we really need a coaching to read basic books of 11th-12th??

Or do we need a coaching to tell us how to read a newspaper??

Are we that dumb?? If we are, then we should re- assess our potential and our dreams!!

Now let's come to current affairs magazines!

Did they exist 10 yr ago?? Are they really "necessary" and "mandatory" to be read to get into the services?

Is it really necessary to solve 50 tests by a coaching institutes where a mains failed will make stupid ques to boost his own ego!! Or for mains a few bunch of interview failed will check your copies to judge you?!

And we are calling this hardwork?!! Out of those 10 lakhs who fill this form, 5lakhs who give the exam and ultimately those 50k who are considered to be "serious aspirants", merely 100 would dare to choose a different approach for their prepration and yet every single soul of those 50k students is considered hard working!!!

It really is hard to follow others instead of making your own path at your own pace, especially when you're capable enough to do this on your own!!!

I wasted my precious days in mugging up pt365 in the last days. Of exam out of the FOMO!! And i dod work hard!! But that's not what is required!!!

We are stupid if we call ourselves hard working Students and still following what everyone is doing!!!

Stop giving so much bhav to coachings!! And use your own brain, make your own strategy!!! Make your own MCQs while reading a topic, cover them holistically, ask questions to yourself while reading books and find those answers!! That's what real hard work is!!!

Even if we Consider last year's preparation level of students ----

1--The tough question paper will lead to atleast 1 mistake under pressure by a general student. This will result in reducing an avg of 2.67 marks.

2--to save negatives many of us reduced their attempted questions. (At least 1 mark difference)

3-- corona crises, less prep due to closure of coachings, library etc, last attempt candidates(within age limit ) preferred skipping this attempt etc etc factor(not seen before) .... 1 question reduced(-2.67)...

So cut off will be around 98-2.67-2.67-1=91.66

Also, even if upsc provides the paper in Persian language some of the candidates will still score 110+:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: so don't loose hope nearly 10,000 will write mains and cut off will be below 93/94.

Take a bow for last point .. Paper in persian ans still 110 . .. Some  guys have uncanny ability to fix things up.

Nowadays the avg upsc aspirant.

Step 1 : opens qp

Step 2 : sees hebrew

Step 3 : understands nothing

Step 4 : marks all of the above.

Step 5 : Peace/piss (depending on the answer key)

I've literally seen many aspirants who talks shit all day on telegram, flirts with other people on groups getting 120+ marks. And people who study sincerely for 8-9 hrs without using telegram and forum getting marks in 80's. I wonder what is happening here!

All those who are certain of clearing prelims, what would you suggest to a person who couldn't appear this year solely because of Covid, otherwise fully prepared to face prelims.

I don't know whether I'd be able to clear it or not because i got to know the answer of a few questions before i saw the paper by myself.

My preparation of prelims was complete but not for maine, so i am going to start mains oriented preparation but i need guidance on how to go about current affairs for prelims 2021.

@HappyValley2020 no one can understand your pain better than the ones who have experienced it..

You do have many people to talk here and let me tell you brother, you are not alone in this..

I've suffered this pain before i ventured out in arena of UPSC..and it's been 4 years without success..

I'm the living example of failure and I'm being failed for 8 yrs in different exams..

But, it's not the end.. life doesn't stop in a span of 8 years or 5 yrs.. 5 years out of your 60 years of life won't matter much if you look at the big picture.. don't get disheartened, look back at your childhood and successes you got since your childhood up until you decided to go for UPSC.. they will surely weigh more than the failures..

And most of the people do understand what you're going through, many of us going through the same..
