Initial feeling of paper inside hall was that it was extremely tough. it had a huge shock value. POW! on your face kind.
After progressing and recovering from the shock, I did find several familiar topics. Huge relief. But alas, the joy was short lived! Even from so called 'easy/predicted' topics, tricky and confusing questions were asked. No straight forward answers! Even the easiest ones required elimination/cross checking.
Then there were several questions which appeared inviting due to familiar nature of topic(mplads, elephant, cybercrime, biofuel, kisan card etc.), but their answers were hard to arrive at and they were time consuming. It only added to pressure and screwed the tempo, leading to sitters in polity and economy also going wrong, especially for poor souls with set C like me.
Every year there are set of prophets for the extremes- one set says "cutoff definitely approaching 110, everyone i know got 120+" , the other giving false satisfaction "toughest paper since last decade, cutoff will go below 90". Every. Damn. Year. Truth always lies in between I feel.
Surprisingly though, a lot of reliable people are pegging the cutoff below 95. Seems unlikely but not impossible. Maybe the low cutoff of last year clouding their judgement? Cant say. Would need to wait for the large coaching houses like shankar to survey their students, give a reasonable picture of a realistic cutoff.
Shubhra Ranjan, the polity goddess, giving different answer for preamble question, says its a and not d-
The Preamble to the Constitution of India is
(a) a part of the Constitution but has no legal effect
(b) not a part of the Constitution and has no legal effect either
(c) a part of the Constitution and has the same legal effect an any other part
(d) a part of the Constitution but has no legal effect independently of other parts
guys, just for the benefit of all on borderline, to form a fair idea on where one stands, lets have a frank exchange of opinions.
all those online, please honestly answer these qs briefly, in points-
1.how much are you scoring(range)
2.how much do YOU think majority junta is scoring(range)
3.after all the net surfing, and watching all analysis, what do you think is the cutoff(range)
1.what went wrong if you could share?
2.past performance please? (scores)
not to be intrusive, but are u among those with good score in gs1 and low in gs2? just curious?

@Harmony There are 4-5 questions which I have not counted as right or wrong. When I calculated my score and saw around 90 that was really strange to feel after studying so hard. After that I started to prepare for Mains from previous night and really decided to just check the list when UPSC releases it and face the result then and not bother about it for now.Just can't stop myself from visiting this thread, too fun to discuss these things.
same here brother. unable to process what went wrong. this year seems to belong to tukkabazi. i changed my strategy after the disaster guess work last year. but this year even those where i was right in guess i dint have the courage to attempt. pains to see ppl justifying thier logic for elimination. random logic with no head or tail. like iske upar aur neeche sab d the to ye bhi mene d maar diya. or isme bahut data tha to wrong hi tha bina dekhe. or s&t k saare sahi hote hai. and such other tricks and non sense. but thats what upsc wants i think.
btw 125+ is extremely good. how much are those in your social circle mostly scoring? and your take on cutoff?
most serious aspirants go with a threshold of how much guesses to make, based on mock tests. so they wont blindly mark an answer only on logic. plus the pressure and confusing options didnt give the confidence to apply even such tricks. last year a lot of tricks worked wrongly bringing down scores so surely this year most were apprehensive to apply the same tricks. then there are the rambos who would attempt over 95 come what may. a lot of them undoubtedly would benefit but most would fall face first. plus it isnt the highest scorer but the lowest scorer who decides the cutoff. most students would have the 98 cutoff of 2 years in mind and attempted accordingly- conservatively.

anyone has any idea about how the omr machine works? I marked a small dot(~10% of bubble) on a wrong option before marking the right one fully. will it be considered wrong? any official document which i can refer regarding rules on this matter? any insight is appreciated.
koi h helpful soul? atleast how can i go about it bata do.
thanks a lot buddy. hope it doesnt become troublesome.
https://www.addmengroup.com/omr-software-accuracy-policy.htm
Can't be sure at what settings UPSC sets the software and which software they use
But it can give you little idea
I myself being in zone of uncertainty did the same mistake but the bubble was filled nearly 50 percent starting from outside.
2.67 at stake
thanks buddy. 2.6 is a lot when on border.
i did read the same thing but it gives the software sellers view. upsc can go strict or easy. cant say. wish some insider/governemt worker could also clarify this. hopefully they are lenient in these matters. so tensed. but considering it wrong anyways.

what about rakhmabai question? vision is giving only 2&3 as correct. found something for that?
My logic was that the author Sakharam Deuskar a Bengali born Maharashtrian who had promoted Sivaji Maharaj in Bengali , how can he restrict the word "Desha" to Bengal. When he has never forgotten his roots. Based on it i had stuck the statement 3 as wrong n arrived at the option.
could be right....but he used it during swadeshi movement so could be bengal most probably. can you share the whole page?
@Devanapiyam could go either way i feel.........even if he meant whole nation, it was specific to the context of the swadeshi movement in bengal.
what about rakhmabai question? vision is giving only 2&3 as correct. found something for that?
Well you can definitely assume that.
Regarding Rakhmabai question, it was briefly mentioned in 'From Plassey to Partition' by Shekhar Bandyopadyaya. Discussion was only on restitution of conjugal rights and Age of Consent. There is no mention of Right to Education. So I think 2 and 3 is most definitely the correct option.
this one is really complex. yes the case in itself did not consider the question of right to education, but she did approach the court to be allowed to continue her studies. plus the discourse outside the courts did include womens rights as a colective, especially right to ed. so it is most likely all 3.
i too have marked both questions like you and considering wrong only(more likely).
Regarding 2 questions that Vision has answered differently- rukhmabai and desher katha, I was initially skeptical. But now I am convinced that they have got it right.
desher katha is a Bengali translation of ideas of moderates who critiqued british impact on indian economy. Deuskar was a marathi domiciled in bengal, who wanted to propagate Shivajis ideal of a united hindu rashtra. desh in his book refers to india as a nation. not bengal. This one is most likely correct.
rukhmabais case specifically revolved around 2 main points- her husband wanted to reinstate conjugal rights, while she wanted to dismiss the case as her consent was not sought as a child bride. right to education doesnt feature in the picture. it may be extrapolated as a larger debate but had no bearing in the case. This one can go either way depending on upsc.
feel free to share thoughts.
iss book me desher search maaro......verbatim picked from this book.....desukar translated economic critiques into bengali....spoke of india as a nation.

thanks.
@Punjabi_Snow_Leopard 93-102 k beech kuch bhi ho sakti hai bhai.....zyadatar coaching wale 98 k neeche h bta rhe hai. kuch to 95 max bata rhe hain.
Just want the experienced candidates to clarify if institutes usually keep the cut off low to attract students to mains centric courses or this year is the first time they've put the cut off in the early 90s?
yes even i am surprised. have seen trend of 3 years. never have coaching walas been so relaxed in estimating such a low cutoff. something doesnt feel right. maybe its because everyone is wrongly seeing last years cutoff as some standard. and yes they do give a slightly lower range, but it is very cloase to real cutoff.

bhai it is a correct statement. no ambiguity. statement phir padho- it provides for, not defines. so judicial review is indeed provided for by constitution via articles 13, 32, 226
CREDIT issued. debt is opposite. but still by this definition your answer would become right i think.....
check this out: https://www.sapling.com/6637532/nonfinancial-debt
IBC code applicable to individual loan as well
i think ibc code applies to financial corporations/entities only. hence debt owed by them is financial debt. households, individuals and certain companies- do not belong to finance sector. the debt they owe is hence non financial debt.
there is no doubt that only 3 is wrong. all 3 are non financial debt. even i marked 3 only. its wrong. for sure.
@root @Jack__Sparrow please delete/block my account. or should i start hurling abuses so you are compelled to bloack me? 3rd time requested. :P
only controversial qs are- 1.preamble legal effect 2.desher bengal 3.rakhabai education

@bhanu_lnmiit937 one or two question pulls u down.. Never imagined csat will turn out like this..
this happens every year maybe this year slightly more. but will it have any significant effect on cutoff? cant say. difficulty of paper itself is putting the cutoff around 95-96. rest of the factors like pandemic, closing of coachings, csat etc will pull it down to an extent but guessmastry, competition increment and lesser seats will try to push it up. more or less cutoff is going to be around 97 only. no chance of 100+ cutoff.
shayad last year kam cutoff ki wajha se sincere log conservatively attempt krke aaye. unka to patta kat gaya zyada tar. tukke baz and freshers ka mixed bag hoga- ya toh bilkul 110+ ya 90- depending on luck. shayad isliye cutoff neeche jaa rha h. but thats just my analysis, baaki upsc maalik h.

Nagarjuna sresilam 1200 sq km2
brother, i get, even i did such useless research last year. i too was unable to face reality. this question is wrong for me also. there is zero controversy in it. please accept and move on. i know its hard.
@Equalizer any idea about why people are doubting block chain question?
ppl are doubting even sunderbans and ghantasala so anything can happen here. only 4 questions remain doubtful as per me- 1.desher katha bengal 2.rukhmabai womens right to ed 3.preamble legal effect 4.minister eligible. no conclusive answer.
@Jack__Sparrow bhai for the nth time- please delete/block my profile......is use of profanity going to be necessary? thanks.
@jack_Sparrow oops ive been tagging the wrong person. sir can you please block/delete my profile? thanks.
4-5 are doubtful every year.this year as well..looks so Prima facielets seefocus on next part ie. mains
which ones as per you?
