[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

I can't understand how people score in various decimal values in GS Paper-I. I have seen scores like x.03, x.54, x.92, x.76, etc

There are only two possibilities - x.33 and x.67 , is it really that unintuitive?

Because while deducting penalty marks for wrong answers they multiply by 0.66 or 0.67 and not 2/3. So, 21 wrong questions would give them -13.86 or -14.07 and not -14.00. I also find numbers ending with .03, .86 and so on funny :D

@Sankoza Such is the aura created by this exam that people will go to any length to justify UPSC. Whether you are writing CAT, GRE or CSAT, it sounds laughable that people need to go beyond the passage given and assume (don't know how) what's written in the original article and then answer on the basis of those assumptions. Please remember that every RC question has only one correct answer, any kind of assumption involved will make it a subjective paper which clearly it is not

@a_rakesh10399 the question is not so straightforward in these cases
It depends upon which category you are choosing narrow money
Broad money

The question was asking about immediate effect, so no change will be the answer for sure. No need to bring in the money-multiplier angle.

@Harsh_capf_ac bhai MIT Harvard se degree kiye ho kya ?

nahi, waha se toh nahi ki,India se hi ki hai, par 150 + reserachpaper padhe hai, MIT harvard, aur IIT NIT DTU me keval itna antar hai ki, waha ke prof 9 baje aate hai, yaha ke 9:30, ya 10 pe,  waha par ek hi jagah saree equipments mil jaate hai, yaha par kuch JNU me hai kuch IUPAC me, kuch IIT, me hai. Waha par 3000 dollars ka stipend hai, yaha par ₹ 40,000 stipend hai. Yaha par phd 5 saal me hoti hai, waha 6 -7 saal me,

AT THE END, Waha se paasout bhi GURGAON ME HAI, YAHA SE PASS OUT BHI GURGAON ME HAI.

Wahan se passout ko Nobel milta rehta hai, yahan walon ko nahi :P

@prachimalik1121311 I don't know why you're doing so much research on money supply since last few days. All the articles you're sharing are true for "multiple transactions" on a large scale. Even the money multiplier angle.
The question had specifically asked for only "one" particular transaction of 10K from the demand deposit. Please understand just this one main difference and everything would be clear to you. The answer has to be D.

The keyword here is the 'immediate effect'. People are simply ignoring this important aspect.

@Rambo93  with all respect, I was only providing how the concept of high powered money works.
And,ifdemand deposits are part of high powered moneythenanswer would be more than amount wala option. I'm 100% sure.
I haven't cross checked if demand deposits are part of high powered money or not. If it's not, the answer would be different.
Having said that, I don't want to check the fact part of it. I'm assuming it to be the case.
People can also argue that the transaction is in cash and it is withdrawn, simply money supply increase by same amount. We all know it's not that simple. It's not simple maths question.
Answer lies in if it is high powered money logic.

Answer lies in the keyword 'immediate effect'

@Panicmonster Don't know the answer
Just shared it and have marked A obviously so would be biased towards it.
But the thing is every coaching is giving the same answer hence not doubtful so is the case with AI where everybody have same voice (coachings) but it will be doubtful for those who have marked it differently and will bring the degrees ,IT experience or a friend working in it to prove the point or research papers as if they are the sources.Last time remember that AMR question and people qouted I have asked my doctor friend she/he said this but upsc gave its answer
As far the DD question is concerned its a type of like Opportunity cost of Providing public good asked in previous year no source only concept
But no I have marked something different it can't be doubtful will fill 100 pages of forum for AI question but will mock others or make mockery if they bring their questions and try to share their knowledge and then make sure that they don't post again by calling them jokingly Rajan or making the obvious one like Texas doubtful
Great respect for other's opinion
Would not even lie about my marks I have messaged many here as well because on border and running in 90's but not claiming above 100 and then also sitting here
Anxious scrolling these pages because second attempt again don't want to flunk in prelims
Don't will clear or not but surely will not refresh forum where extreme intolerence is seen for someone else's question

Bias towards one's answer is not obvious, it's deliberate.

In the csat RC it is clearly written- answer it based upon the given passage. "The passage of 10 lines given in the question paper".not from the whole articles that you find from the original sources.

Upsc answers in both GS and CSAT have always been based on source passages and verbatims. Always. No exception. As a matter of rule. Whether one likes it or not.

I think it's like this :

1. Criticial inference / message / summary of the passage can be arrived and the answers given are from the RC itself.

2. Questions in which assumptions are asked might be taken up from the article

If you see and try to get a pattern most of the coaching institutes have different keys with assumption questions and almost 12-13 answers are not debatable with 6 keys , they are clear and same.

Coaching keys are most of the time wrong on assumption based RC, In such questions you can't look for RC and must look article. What's the point of asking for assumption if it's explicitly mentioned in RC itself . To substantiate further Check shankar's keys in 2018 and 19 . In 2018,nine of their RC's are wrong and 6 of them are assumption based ones only.

In the 2019 paper, there are 14 assumption based RCs out of 30, please show me any two RCs which could not have been answered correctly on the basis of the given passage. Even if the assumptions have been lifted directly from the original article, they can still be answered based on the passage if one thinks logically. There may be an error in one or two questions. I attempted all the RCs in 2019 and out of assumption based only 1 went wrong (the food varieties one) as per official UPSC key.

There is no need of getting scared of RCs and indulging in overthinking and guessing what might have been written in the original article in future CSAT exams. Choose the option which you find correct based on the passage. If you think logically, at the max 1 or 2 will go wrong.

Cheers!
