[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

My friend's grandfather expired today due to Covid-19 complications. The atmosphere around all of us is so gloomy. And the worst part is that there were only 10,000 cases on May 31. Now with 30 Lakh+ cases and a definite rise on October 4th, the prelims are gonna be held. Isse acha hota ki May 31st ko hi hota exams.

For the question on TRIMS, what is the correct answer? The quantitative restrictions on investments are prohibited.

But TRIMS does NOT deal with services. So we're left with 1 only. But there is no such option.

I don't think there is a correct answer for question on TRIMS. The quantitative restrictions on investments are prohibited. So 1 is correct.

But TRIMS does NOT deal with services. Also it's meant for foreign investment. So we're left with 1 only. But there is no such option. Will they remove that question if representation is sent?

86 OBC. Any chance? Please tell me as I have other plans of joining MBA and my student fee would be locked.

@Kachua_🐢 you're just speaking my mind friend. This Prelims was just about luck and mad guessing (especially the irritating "all of the above trick""). Hardwork is futile. I have seen friends who didn't know Welfare State is under DPSP getting the sugarcane and Pala-Pratihara chronology correct by guessing. It's ridiculous, frustrating and really depressing. Truly it has been snatched away...

4.6k views
After seeing answer keys of 4 institutes and extensive googling, I have finalised own key. And getting measly 86 OBC marks. Now I have to take a call to leave my 4 year old UPSC dream (3 Mains) and taking up MBA. And preparing for another Prelims is not an option as I'm severely depressed now.

My entire career and life depends on a good reply. Please advise me friends, I beg you 🙏🙏

Somebody tell me: yeh answer and solution mein kya link hain? Housing loans by households are not 'issued' by households. And the amounts on credit cards are issued by businesses which are definitely in the financial sector. So by the solution, how are they arriving at D??

4.1k views
@rahulgandhi yes and uske upar hi Basic structure ka bhi zikr hain, which is definitely not mentioned in Constitution. You have given a good analogy with legal right wala question. Can you give more insights on Judicial review framing?

@Harmony yes but the term itself has not been mentioned. The option could not have been Judicial Review is "defined" as it's not a new concept across the world Constitutions. But Basic Structure ko 'defined' bolre hain because it is judiciary innovated doctrine.
I would simply like to ask, agar first statement says Constitution 'provides' for Basic Structure, would you have marked it correct? No, right.

@rahulgandhi exactly my thoughts in the exam hall. The inverted commas twisted my mind.

3.9k views
It is definitely "issued" by, brother.

3.9k views
@Challenger_Deep why is everyone so stuck with defines and provides? They have used Basic Structure has been "defined" because it is invented by Indian system.
But Judicial Review has been "provided" because it is not a new concept.
Both the terms cannot be found anywhere in our Constitution. Anyway, I had a really open mind answering this. It may go either way if truly they're dogmatic about defines/provides.

3.8k views
@Harmony I have not seen a huge effect of vacancies over cutoff all these years. But EWS maybe a factor.
And cutoff will definitely fall, but the question is how far would it fall.

5.7k views
@DM 😓🙏 thank you

5.4k views
@Harmony yeh article hi samajh nahi aara hain. At one place, they have mentioned Financial companies include commercial and investment banks, insurance companies, finance companies, mortgage lenders and investment firms.
But they have also included credit card balances as non-financial debt. Can you help me understand?

5.3k views
@gauravbrly409 can you quote a source? Or are you definitely sure that answer is C?

5.2k views
@Daarubaaj yes exactly! "Essence" poocha tha unhone. So A would definitely be correct. Even Shubra Ranjan ma'am kept it under doubtful. And atleast voter toh hona zaroori hain yaar for becoming a minister. Agar Donald Trump man jayega, usko laake rakh sakte hain kya India mein as a minister?!

4.9k views
@Great_Indian_Custard you have good chances brother. And more than anything, thanks for listing all the doubtful questions in one place! Mene bhi inme se 4 ko doubtful rakha hain.

4.7k views
@gauravbrly409 bhai your reasoning is true that UPSC doesn't go to lexical terms. But your conclusion is false. Jo bhi ho, Constitution mein Basic Structure ka zikr kahi nahi hain (chahe woh defines/provides/pertains jo bhi ho).
In fact, by your reasoning, it can be extrapolated that Judicial Review is also not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution. So that also can be false (though it's just 'provides')

4.3k views
@chelseaboy thank you man. This makes it very clear: Ans is 1&2

4.6k views
@Navya how is 4th option correct? By fertigation, how exactly is leaching controlled? Because it's still irrigation water which settles on soil. By poor water seepage, the minerals can still be leached.

5.1k views
@chelseaboy it's 100% settled Ans is A. The preamble has no legality directly or indirectly. If you ask a law student, they'll tell you that 'legal effect' is linked to justiciability. Infact a question on DPSPs was asked before last year. That it could be a restriction on legislature (due to Art 37). But that was false and all these Preamble, DPSP, Fundamental Duties, etc are non-justiciable.

@rishi258 please yahi sach hona chahiye. Borderline 90 pe hu mein 🤒🤒

6.3k views
@rishi258 this is really mind blowing rishi. If you have reasoned this in the exam and kept answer as 2 and 3, my respect to you. Didn't even observe it till now.

People just file your representations soon rather than debating questions here. Only 2 hours as 6PM is deadline. I have found main wrongs in:

1. Civilians for fort william college.

2. Gandhi Irwin pact translation error

3. Aadhar question, ambiguity in some options

4. Plueripotent human cells into pig (the experiment was not successful)

5. Social cost of carbon: multiple ptions correct

6. Zero tillage

7. MPLADS: Not compulsory to create durable infrastructure

Any other questions, please add

@Biradar yes like Shubra Ranjan ma'am who has been teaching Political science for decades 🙄

@Moneysingh faculty have been drunk. TRIMS ka abhi tak sabne 1 and 3 hi diya hain. This guy gave complete opposite 😂

6.2k views
@mayank_vats20248505 yes EXACTLY! I got so tired explaining people this question!! Invitation for Congress to RTC was never a part of the pact. And if you remove 1, answer can only be 2, 3 and 4. Also another interpretation is "Accepting Gandhi's suggestion of police excesses" was part of pact. But that was however declined by British government later.

Thanks for sharing the source. But people were saying this question would be cancelled due to faulty hindi translation. Any idea?

6.1k views
@Moneysingh have you sent this in representation to UPSC? If you would have sent it last week, I also would have sent it.

@VikramReddy the UPSC question also says 1 and 3 "can" be done. That they are possibilities. Don't worry about this question. It is 200% 1, 2 and 3.

4.4k views
@prachimalik1121311 but they have clearly mentioned Aggregate Money Supply in the question. Anyway what would be the answer according to your analysis?

6.2k views
@Jokar wow great work! This is definitely the exact source. Any idea if this answer key is available anywhere?

6.1k views
@Homo Neanderthalensis same. 116 and 84 last year. This year, 88 in Prelims 😑😑

@Aurang_mirasudar yes I understand the answer has to be D. But the user@prachimalik1121311 had posted the lengthy articles and was trying to explain something. Hence I asked her if there's some deeper meaning to the question.

@Aurang_mirasudar and you might have 5% hope. Because immediately after the Prelims, I was discussing with a friend. He told the question asked "If you withdraw Rs. 1,00,000 in cash from your Demand Deposit Account at your bank,  theimmediate effecton aggregate money supply in the economy will be".
So his interpretation was that Currency in circulation would rise immediately, but DD of banks are not updated immediately. So answer should be B.
Though I felt it was too nitpicking.
4.6k views
@ShivamS bhai mene khud D mark kiya. But agar koyi B ka correct source explain karega, I want to see.

@Aurang_mirasudar lol exactly! DD update karne mein kya hi time lagega. Anyway Aurang bhai, please don't leave Forum discussions. You're the voice of credibility here. Atleast login once a day for 10 min.

5.8k views
@Denisovan2019 😂😂😂. Rubbing salt on wounds I see!

5.7k views
@Agyeya 1 and 2 have chance. But from all the analysis and sources posted here from last few days, I think 3,4 and 5 would be wrong.

6.6k views
@Aurang_mirasudar that's a brilliant analogy. I remember the debates on this question. And till now I was sure of AI as D. But Aurang bhai, hamesha doubts laate ho answers mein 😑😑

4.4k views
@rishi258 bhai my sincere request to all about RC discussion. It is most futile of all the UPSC Discussions. Over the years, especially 2018 Prelims, the RC answers of UPSC are mind blowing. CSAT mein sirf Quant and Reasoning ka count karo, and RC ko 50% correct rakho. Bas yaha pe sirf GS1 ke discussions rakho. So that it wud benefit all of us.

4.3k views
@KGPIAN looks like you're new here and fresh out of Jnan Gosh stadium mood. All of us had extensive discussions on this thread regarding questions and official sources Ira Dube, Hindu articles  etc. AI and Rakhmabai ka chance hain, but rest would be wrong brother.

4.2k views
@prachimalik1121311 yes I understood your view yesterday itself. But I don't know how many would agree with answer A.

4.7k views
@tss allow me to introduce you to Shubra Ranjan ma'am, who has been teaching Political Science for decades. Preamble has no legal effect.

4.3k views
@rafael steel slag can't be used in agriculture soil improvement? Yeh kesa teacher hain, he's not even explaining how. Can somebody shed some light in this please.

3.9k views
@Challenger_Deep please quote a source from which the question vould have been framed.

5.9k views

So yesterday I was also dreaming about Preamble, Desher Katha, Prelims and my result! Extremely frustrated. I have narrowed down the border questions for me. Please tell me what are the chances:

1. Preamble- A

2. Minister-A

3. Desher Katha- A (Desher to mean nation)

4. Non Financial Debt- 3 only

5. Biochar- 1 and 3 only. Doesn't help Nitrogen fixing organisms. It maybe used in conjunction with Nitrogen fixing organisms, but no interaction is found.

5 mein se kithna chance hain? I can't see question paper again, as I might hurt myself looking at the bloody mistakes I committed. Getting 90, not counting all these. So, on a knife's edge.

6.5k views

Non Financial Debt ka source milgya. The answer is 1,2 and 3 beyond doubt. Another wrong for me.

Minister question ka source milgya. It is A beyond doubt. There was a Constitutional bench which read Art 164 in conjunction with Art 173.

http://www.ebc-india.com/lawyer/articles/2005_2_69.htm

4.1k views
@Harsh_capf_ac you yourself told Desher Katha can't be D. So answer should be A. So my answer is correct.
Anyway, I don't know how useful your degrees are if you can't comprehend basic sources from which questions are picked.
I don't think you studied Constitutional Law good enough in LLB. So I wouldn't trust someone like you to quote on Preamble too.

3.8k views
@MrJ bhai yeh age wala ridiculous argument mat quote karna. Member of Legislature banne ke liye Voter hona zaroori hain (Art 173). Does that mean People between 18-25 can become MLAs?!
And read the article fully. You have only read the first case. Neeche Constitution bench has told to become Minister (Art 164), person should qualify conditions for Art 173 (voter). Or see the screenshot I posted along with article. Anyway I'm convinced answer is A. Your wish to believe otherwise.

@majormiketango yes I also had the same doubt. Can somebody shed some light?

4.5k views
@prachimalik1121311 pata nahi but seedha us article se question banaye they. Have you sent a representation to UPSC last week regarding this, demand deposit and other questions?

Actually how many here have sent representations to UPSC?

4.4k views
@MrJ phir wahi age ki baat? Kithni baar samjhana hain, there is a condition of both Age (2nd point of Article 173) and Voter (3rd point of Article 173  which is parliamentary qualifications under RPA, 1951). In fact, there was a previous year UPSC question asked in 2017 on the same context. Try to attempt it by applying the ridiculous age criteria.
Last word: If you're a voter, you need not directly be eligible to become a MP/MLA. But to become MP/MLA, you have to be a voter.

3.7k views
@a_rakesh10399 bhai this is true in Covid-19 sort of situations. Not when question had asked a fixed figure of 10k withdrawal from DD.

4.1k views
@prachimalik1121311 I don't know why you're doing so much research on money supply since last few days. All the articles you're sharing are true for "multiple transactions" on a large scale. Even the money multiplier angle.
The question had specifically asked for only "one" particular transaction of 10K from the demand deposit. Please understand just this one main difference and everything would be clear to you. The answer has to be D.

4.4k views
@prachimalik1121311 no I'm just concerned that all your posts are dealing with huge transactions. But the question has asked one simple transaction.
As a fellow UPSC aspirant, I hope you can understand this simple logic and keep yourself at peace.

3.5k views
@ShivamS any source?

4.2k views
@Dream11 thank you for sharing this. The article clearly says 1 and 3 only.

@mandeepsngh123 yes this is actually a brilliant analysis. I have seen people who have marked DPSP, Public Key, Reverse tranche as wrong getting in. Just because they have marked 90+ questions and made guesses. And this time the "All of the above" seems to have worked well. I'm sure AI, CNT, Biochar sabka D tha.
We just did a lot of overthinking and got many questions wrong. So the questions are also set by very normal people. No need to overhype it at all.
Anyway I'm IN for CSE, out for IFoS. But I realised this after some sleepless nights over past two weeks.

@HappyValley2020 I can relate to many things you said. I'm also an IITan. Cleared 5 Prelims and couldn't clear Mains yet. The depression and crisis is real.
My 2 cents: GET A JOB! Either an educational startup, coaching content curator, faculty, whatever you can lay your hands on. You have lost the luxury of preparing without a job. Anudeep Durishetty, Anu Kumari and many other stalwarts cleared the exam while they were working.
You can only prepare without a job for the first 1-2 attempts. After that, every attempt kills you a little bit. And unless you're financially, mentally, emotionally stable, you cannot give further attempts at peace. Trust me, everything will be fine. There is something called destiny.

6.1k views
@VivekanandS yes man. Let's see what this attempt holds.
