Bilkul. High chances but as per official key not shankar/ vaji/ vision/ insights. There's variatio in 4 to 5 key every year. That's y we see many with 105 Could not make it and many with 95 clear it. If most of ur doubtful questions like AI, NALSA, MINISTER is wrong as per coaching there's high chance u will clear. I am also in same level...94 after dropping Gandhi irwin so I know the anxiety.

Thank you Brother for your views!

@Carpediem There is one viewpoint which can defend the question. It says Legal service authorities in India provide free legal services to ------ which can mean any SLSA or DLSA or at national level.
For transgenders-atleast it is in Delhi. If there is no state which All senior citizens get free legal aid, then I m sad that answer will be 1 n 2

In Haryana ALL SENIOR CITIZENS are eligible for free legal aid. It is given in their website.

Very Good Brother...Now we have very good chances of it being correct

What can be the cut off for EWS? Any EWS candidate plz enlighten!

I think we have researched the answers a lot. Now, playing answers answers game won't be of much help in terms of mental peace to anyone. It has reached equilibrium and UPSC will be the fate decider as always.

This would be my last post and kindly request everyone here to please predict the cutoff. No range just one number.(Assuming that marks r given to deserving Hindi students in Gandhi Irwin)

My take is 96.67(General)

91, given gandhi irwin is deleted. 93 otherwise.

Raison d etre -

1. Difficult qp so on avg people have 2 questions less in kitty (very similar to 2016 to 17 transition and 2017 to 18 transition). That amounts to 2.67*2 = 5.34 marks

2. Further 1 mark fall in cutoff thanks to abysmal turnouts.

Round 0.33 mark balanced out by lesser seats

So 98-5.33-1+0.33= 92 as per upsc key

92 brother??

4.8k views

Some random guy on internet- Cut will higher than last year (behind the scenes- I have taken best case scenario and added marks for all doubtful question besides forgot deducting my negative marks for wrong answers )

How much difficult this paper was compared to 2018?

4.7k views
@VivekanandS  I did a small survey of 300 people only 18 of them in were EWS. The % varied from 5-7% after 50 votes.

Considering the low cutoff in most of other exams especially in second year ( after the bubble that almost everyone is ews got burst) was so so low. You can expect even lower cutoff for ews than last year.

Last year upsc gave a 4 month window to get the ews certificate so people thinking no matter  what I will get a Ews certificate filled the form as ews, later they couldn’t produce the certificate and you a historic decline in mains cutoff for ews. This time no such provision. Expect it to be 85-87

Last year it was 90 bro!

Hello guys, i'm getting marks in the range of 85-95 in paper 1. But in csat i'm getting 62.5-65.83 in this range. I'm from ph category (mentioning this just for the sake of clarity). After seeing my marks in csat i decided i'll start preparing for 2021 now, bcz in the upsc notification it's clearly mentioned that we've to score 33% in csat, i.e. 66 marks. But yesterday i talked to one sir and he said that in ph category sometimes they relax this criteria as he has heard so this has me highly confused. As from my experience i don't think this is true so, i just want clarity so that i can focus on my next year exam.   @Neyawn sir please clarify this if you've time. And i would request others as well to respond if they've any idea about the same. Thank You.

No relaxation Brother

@VivekanandS this time paper is tough no easy questions (except one dpsp question).. Every time there will be sitters from economy, modern history, geography, map.. .. Now this 10 marks is not easily available to everyone...  Out of my huge experience this time cutoff will go down.. But I don't know how much..

My take on cut off: 92-94 considering people writing mains will be lower than last year.

and those who are in the range 100-110 of coaching answer key, do not trust them. Change in 4-5 questions can bring down your score drastically. Has happened with many of my friends last year.

@beginn371316 bhai, constitution clearly provides for judicial review! wo toh basic structure hain. SC invented Basic structure but kept things in constitution in basic structure only not the outside things of constitution. So basic structure in invented by SC not in Constitution. Judicial Review is in constitution and SC shields or protects it by keeping it in basic structure. simple as that.

Judicial review is also not explicitly written if we go by law of verbatims.

Constitution *provides* ... Yes it provides.

Constitution defines ... Sounds dubious now.

What cut off did forum predict in 2018?

Anyone please if aware

4.2k views
@Biradar  Harrapan Horse is a debated issue. Thats why there was confusion over the same. However upsc picked the exact verbatim from a du book.

However Desher Katha and Rukhmabai are not historical debates.. Open any standard text book and search for age of consent you will probably get the word ‘ debate’ suffixed with it.

Desher katha me the man desukar himself has written about bharat bhoomi its geography, demography (22cr population) , Economic exploitation.

Rukhmabai is picked from Dube again and she clearly writes about age of consent and conjugal rights . Then sekhar bandopadhya mentions same too. These two are very big names in history.

I think shankar gave All in Desher Katha in its revised as Updated through FB post.

What say?

Desher katha it’s all 123

I too was considering 3rd wrong unless I read the page of Dube's book multiple times only to find out that It could actually be true.

"Book says he meant Nation by DESH,but the context of nation has been explained in preceding lines and it goes on to say the same concept of nation must have been prevalent in marathi as well only to corroborate Deuskar's stnd on station".

I might be wrong in my interpretation!

I have been silently noticing the over analysing mania going on in this forum from last 7 days..

Bhai.. NALSA will be A and B.. Senior citizen will not be considered by UPSC. I marked senior citizen but i know how u0ac is... They dont overanalyse... And thats why they ask us to mark the MOST APPROPRIATE choice and NOT the COORRECT option.

This discussion also reminds me of where many candidates go wrong wrt prelims...

And why many are not selected year after year.. Sorry for being blunt, but thats true

No need to be sorry . I accept wht u say . But tell me how A nd B is most appropriate . Is nt transgender option as wrong as the senior citizen option ? Are we supposed to be objective or subjective like the arts people in a mcq exam ? I just put my views and forwarded it to upsc on qus being wrong . Rest depends on them . No need to be emotional on this .

Yes True..This definitely was a wrongly framed question!Transgender option is as wrong as Senior Citizen. There is no doubt in that.

6.8k views
I am sure that UPSC framed qn seeing that pdf of legal services authoritt where statewise beneficiaries is given..

In case of delhi.. Transgender are allowed free services for upto 2 lakh i think... Correct me if i am wrong... And thats why its correct

Well Said..they might have picked verbatim from there! But There are some states including Bihar Haryana where All Senior Citizens are Included irrespective of any income. So Far as NALSA is concerned, they do not set any criteria for transgender and Senior Citizens, instead leave it to states to classify.

Correct me If I am wrong!

Yes friend you are wrong in your interpretation and its not your fault that book is very difficult to comprehend.. But a patient read will tell you what she actually meant.

Also as posted before I have checked the desher katha book itself and desh has been used for bharat bhoomi. Being from Bengal I do have an advantage there to get it checked out

Also Got it confirmed by local teachers here .

At the end, it’s all about which set of people did the paper favour?

Yes...weird paper, unconventional paper, tricky, difficult, asking anything from sun...but still cut off kam nahi hoga...I don't understand the logic...either our assessment of paper is wrong our Shankar's prediction of cut off is wrong.

Shankar's prediction is wrong!

Soemetimes, Their Lower End is breached and at times Upper. How They can be trusted wholeheartedly. It just has been a convention, though fallacious,in the past few years to blindfoldedly believe Shankar's Cut Off Range as They are best amongst the worst in predicting it but This argument is not worth buying.

D is right?

Cut off will be 92(+-2). Said this on day 1. Continuing the same till date.

Every time a tough paper has happened marks have collapsed by 6 7 marks minimum. And this is not even taking covid into account.

Absurd for people to forget 2016 ->2017 transition and 2017->18 transition.

Its not gonna be 95. Last time consensus was at 101, it fell to 98, that too with ews, which means in a normal case the cutoff might have been down to 96 or 97.

So anyone above 90 has a decent chance. A lot of 100s have taken rakhmabai and desher katha as 123, a lot of 100s have preamble as A and have taken gandhi irwin marks (which logically will be dropped 99.99%)

i would rather say a 92 93 guy who hasn't included such cheap marks has a better probability to convert than a 100+ guy with such dirty marks.

And well, last time I know people who were having scores in 90s, and had given up who made it to final list. So yeah, stop seeking validity. If are 90+ just study and inshallah!

Cut off can't go more than 93. At least 5 marks dip had to be there.

Calculate marks by shankar or insights or vision. Even if u r dead sure it has given a wrong answer take it as such...if getting more than 92 High chances u will clear.

Was this paper harder than 2018? If yes, how much?

I found it harder than 2018.

For so great exam people had, forum this season has garnered prolly the least traction in the last 5 years. Those who have been in forum since they started taking baby steps for upsc would know. Also for the first time I am seeing people so concerned about paper 2 , literally on every page we are seeing paper 2 discussion

*High quality bakar ek khwab hai*

Maybe sabka gs paper 1 achcha gaya ho... In insights poll it is showing 2k people getting 110+

Good luck believing those polls.

If you were here, you would have known how jostling the forum used to be in 2016 2017 when 110 scores were commonplace. In 2018 19 too when 100s were common forum used to be far far more active.

So why are people discussing less then....dauration for mains is less maybe the reason

Both that, and the 100 102 wala guy doesn't want to rethink answers like desher katha or rakhmabai or even the fault in gandhi irwin. His 100 102 becomes 92 94.

Can't agree more!!

Bro upsc key matters. Marks can increase as well as decrease. That is why I worry. But one good think, most of those we think, controversial is wrong for me like AI, NALSA, MINISTER. Let's see. ATB

Ai I have searched internet extensively ..wireless electron transmission via AI is scientifically wrong statement.AI ka kam wo nhi ha..infact wireless transmission technology kabhi aye to wo AI k liye bahat helpful hoga.. reverse is correct..

And minister wala A ...upsc takes broad point of view..moreover,A galat Karna jyada controversial ha than sahi karna..it's A I think... moreover, constitution doesn't prevent an 18 yr old to become minister for 6 months because he is not a member of legislature so 25 yr criteria doesn't arise.. correct me if I am wrong..

We will once again reiterate that cutoff marks in recently concluded UPSC prelims will be between 90-95( GM category), and most likely be either 92 or 93.

If your score is above 90 prepare well for Mains. The marks of selected candidates Indicate that you should be good across all papers in Mains and then in interview to guarantee a rank.

Upsc lift qus from somewhr   There can not be a article which ll say AI is effective for meaningful story and wireless transmission .  It is obvious ans is B . I saw explaination of gs score for all   they have shared a link . When u read that article it says how AI is writting story etc ...  but surprise !! Below it written "april fool " !!  Whn u have 2 search so much to prove something right and that too u find false alert .. its obvious ur ans is wrong .

Exactly... UPSC must have lifted the question from some research/news article or some book. There are many articles with titles "What AI can and can't do", " Where AI fails", "evolution of AI" etc, and many of them discuss the failure of AI "in present state" in generating creative content and expect it to be a thing of future.UPSC must have lifted it from such articles, and they even gave one very weird or outlandish option of "wireless transmission" to aid students in arriving at correct answer. So, most probably answer is "B".

And many people are searching vigorously for AI written meaningful stories, even if it writes some meaningful story, it is very rare and 1 out of a 100 (It is an exception, rather than a norm). Also most news articles and research articles point to "non-sense" content generated by AI, due to "lack of cognition". Thus the general consensus of public is AI is still premature in this arena, and UPSC will most likely go with this.

Did any coaching give option B??

How can someone get 10 marks in Essay paper?

How is it possible? Anyone who has qualified Prelims and is getting 85 in GS-I (visible in screenshot) is definitely capable of writing an average Essay.

Does UPSC entertain rechecking pleas is such cases?

This guy is getting 127 in English. I got 112 in english and 140 in essay. Something is seriously wrong with this one.

Brother, I got 111 in essay and 153 in English.

Why people are rumourmongering about cut off ! It becomes hard to correctly estimate the dates related to UPSC exams and results let alone finding cut off that too exactly.

Insights has been reiterating that Cut off Will most likely be 92 or 93 (definitely less than 95), How reliable this can be??

They intentionally tell less cut off so people subscribe their test series

Dont you think there is a risk of losing credibility and faith of students?

With due respect to everyone, i scored 99.9 percentile in cat (approx 73 percent marks), and I'm getting 120 which is 60 percent, so csat definitely wasn't easy, and I know my friends who used to score well in csat have also suffered this time. The result would come soon but just wanted to state my opinion on the paper.

Best of luck to everyone, and I hope everyone on the edge makes it through.

Ps- I'm on the edge too in paper 1

Will CSAT affect cut off by at least 1 mark this time??

Is it necessary that UPSC key will change in at least 3-4 questions with respect to coaching keys??

Does this happen every year necessarily?

Okay..It differs always.

I will be having my last attempt next year.Failed prelims this year.Friends, I genuinely need an advice.Whether to skip 2021 and appear in 2022 after trying my hands seriously at State PSCs and SSC-CGL which I did not do until now.

@VivekanandS try your hands in state PCSs of Bihar, Rajasthan, UP, MP etc. as they hav consistency in conducting regular exams (if you know Hindi obviously).
Same syllabus. Need few extra effort in current affairs (focused on states) which is available in monthly pdfs on many websites like adda247.
I'm currently myself preparing for BPSC & PPSC.
Don't loose hope.
Start your prep from today. Stop wasting time.

Bihar and UP can be tried at.SSC CGL i will be focussing at.

in with fifth mains consecutive. Was getting 101.33 min... Coaching keys thrashed completely in my view.

Sir, Plz Share your Strategy for prelims in 5 points. It would be highly appreciated.

Bhai, I believe you should take up a job, if you get. If not go for some other exam and try to clear it. Matlab jo apko lage aap nikal sakte ho kam time mein.
I think skip karne mein hi zyada benefit hai. Is cycle se nikal jao.
Meanwhile upsc ko part time prepare karte raho, don't neglect it totally. Part time I mean write 2 answers daily, read optional and newspaper ye sab 2 hours mein hota hai, agar sab pehle padha ho to. Baki sirf revision aur value addition karo through writting.

And gradually 2022 tak saare content achese banalo, notes taiyar karo, optional ethics sab sort karo.

And most importantly find the reason why you failed. I mean sit with all past 5 years papers, aur jot down karo, ki kitne total attempt hue, kitne easy question galat hue jo sabke sahi hote hai. Question approach karte waqt kaisa mindset hota hai aapka. I believe it is not the knowledge but confidence and approach jisse aapka pre nahi hua pehle.

Okay Brother..

Thanks A lot for your Suggestions

Is SSC CGL tougher than UPSC to crack? I am willing to target it to land up a job!

@HappyValley2020 I can relate to many things you said. I'm also an IITan. Cleared 5 Prelims and couldn't clear Mains yet. The depression and crisis is real.
My 2 cents: GET A JOB! Either an educational startup, coaching content curator, faculty, whatever you can lay your hands on. You have lost the luxury of preparing without a job. Anudeep Durishetty, Anu Kumari and many other stalwarts cleared the exam while they were working.
You can only prepare without a job for the first 1-2 attempts. After that, every attempt kills you a little bit. And unless you're financially, mentally, emotionally stable, you cannot give further attempts at peace. Trust me, everything will be fine. There is something called destiny.

Cleared Pre This time Bhai?

@VivekanandS it’s not tougher. It’s more competitive. Last last me 1-1 number pe 300-400 log hote hain. It’s not the cgl of 2011-2015 era anymore.

Yes Got it! Should aim for SSC or SEBI/RBI Grade B?

Which one is easier to do?

7.1k views
That was not the point. Which one is better? Rbi vs sebi vs cgl. A person needed to know which exam should he give to get a JOB first. He also mentioned what TOUGHNESS level is of cgl. I answered that question.

True That..

Guys I cleared with around 90 marks, thanks to SC category butI seriously have to say one thingto those who think they cleared but yet couldn't feature in the list.

Even though this is my first attempt and started prep in April what I have realised talking to people who have given quite a number of times and a few who are in the service is they have never seen so many people who claim to have cleared both CSAT and GS but still didn't qualify. I know many genuine guys who are shocked they couldn't clear and there is little chance of them flunking CSAT, IIT background with more than decent Comprehension skills. Tbh I majorly did comprehension and yet cleared. Got 80% of them right. In hindsight, it was definitely a wrong strategy but anyway I crossed the mark.

Now coming to the point, I wanted to make, I honestly believe there is something really off with the result. They published the result within 19 days in a lockdown situation. They needed to check 5 lacs copies. The data entry is done manually and these guys would have been under immense pressure to get it done. Remember this is handled by private company employees who can't be really screwed legally. Chances are high there was some mistake in data entry or worse they have just directly entered random marks in some cases without checking to meet the deadline. It has happened in other exams, it can happen in UPSC too especially when Pvt company employees are pressured to meet unrealistic deadlines.

My suggestion to you all: File an RTI asking for certified copies of your OMR. Don't ask for cut off or Model Answers.

What will it achieve: Even if they deliberately, delay the response to push it near or after the mains, if you would have actually cleared the prelims, and your OMR was wrongly marked/checked/data properly not entered, you can approach the Court for a direct attempt at mains next year. And the Court will in all probability grant that request because there has to be some compensation monetary or otherwise. Remember even after all your preparations you can actually legitimately fail prelims next year so why not waiver that stage off for you, if you genuinely deserved it this year. The process is not really that taxing. I have seen people getting things done through RTI in a breeze. And if the facts are also concretely in your favour High Courts also dispose of the Case in 1/2 hearing especially ones related to Important exams. Best of Luck if you go ahead.

Thanks.

It feels like something has been genuinely wrong in declaration of results this time. But God only knows the reality. And UPSC will skirt the issue very cleverly.
