I hope I made sense. The sessions were primarily aimed at addressing WHY's  and understanding things. This was NOT an answer writing session, which will be separate.

We hope to create the 2016 magic.

My old request from forum folks is that lets keep the community clean. Let us hope that we have selections from the community all 10 in ten, like it used to happen in post 2013/14 days. :)

Hi @Neyawn, I decided to follow your advice consistently since the open session you had at the Delhi office on Jan 11th 2020 which dramatically changed the course of my preparation and cut out unnecessary (and untimely efforts) from my schedule. I am comfortably clearing this year, even though I found it fairly challenging and I attribute my systematic study to your advice which is always forthcoming at the exact moment I feel lost or without the right guidance. Would love to thank you in person for that, if not for the pandemic!

I am also very glad that @forumiasacademy planned a session for first-timers here, I have never done any serious answer writing before and also I can't afford to do prep full-time after this cycle; so this is it for me.

My query for the session–I do best when I have time to absorb, revise, consolidate my learnings from a test series. I am someone who only did 20 FLTs from March to Sept 2020 (contrary to the 50-80 tests some toppers suggest) and felt that was enough. For mains, someone suggested that I could do daily answer writing and supplement it with 2 or max 3 round of GS I-IV FLTs instead of sectional tests that we usually do in a mains test series. Is that likely to be enough? Because as most candidates, optionals test series + revision etc will keep one's plate full and I don't want to overwhelm myself

It would be great if the session was conducted on or after 12th. A lot of people are writing UPPCS Prelims on 11th.

@NeyawnThank you for using the word DELIBERATE in the today's morning session.

Read-Write-Deliberate. I may be wrong but this is the first time you used this word. The moment I heard it I realised how important it is.

Because we will not get time to write every question. Especially for optional, please deliberate on as many questions as possible.

How do we work for improvement when no marks are out? What should be our initial steps, atleast till UPSC releases the marksheets?

I will take up some ideas. See if they resonate with you.

@Neyawn I want to remind you of your promise of telling us how to clear mains in less time. You made it to us before prelims so that we take prelims more seriously.😀

P.s. I have registered for the session.

@Neyawn Sir, I m getting 76-78 marks in 2020 prelims (first attempt), this clearly indicates that I won't clear this year prelims :( Unfortunately 2021 will be my last attempt. Can you please help me the strategy (broad timeline of preparation along with targets) for 2021 attempt?

Also, please share the mistakes that one should avoid in prelims n mains? I don't want to commit any mistake this year..I am bit worried as next attempt will be my last one... Your guidance via blog/video may help people like me..

Thanks & Regards

Hello,

I have documented something about the exam calendar in the article below

https://blog.forumias.com/two-cents-how-to-clear-civil-services-with-a-top-rank-and-avoid-exhausting-attempts/

I recommend studying for Mains ( GS + Optional ) for the next 4-5 months and then doing Prelims post January / February .

If you feel an insatiable need to do Prelims for a while, I recommend you make a list of topics froM which questions are asked in Prelims In past 3-4 years and are not given in standard books and make short notes in them - example nanotubes, CRISPR etc.

@root @Neyawn my queries for the first-timers session

What does a good plan/schedule look like

Ideally, what targets to hit in what no. of days (first reading, revision, Full paper tests, essay practice etc.)

Mistakes that beginners would likely commit and how to avoid them

PS: also how to not be overwhelmed by the huge no of things to do in such a short span of time

Questions:

1) Everyone says that one needs to attempt all 20 questions. Every year, there are some questions about which people usually don't have an idea about. How do toppers attempt them? ( It would be great if you could demonstrate this with any question from previous year)

2) How can I write model answers for PYQs?

3) Is there any way to self evaluate answers?

4) For current affairs, what is the best way to cover all the major issues?

5) There is a deluge of new courses and test series nowadays. What is the best course of action for someone who hasn't done answer writing before prelims?

6) After writing a test and getting it evaluated, is it advisable to write model answers to test series questions? Given your experience, how useful are test series questions in covering major themes  that will be asked in the final GS papers?

Thank you.

How to manage the new current affairs and revise the current affairs of the last 15 or so months? How much time should be devoted in each considering the optional, ethics and essay also need to be completed.
