Seeking additional attempt at UPSC due to pandemic (2019 and 2020 batches)

We were having this discussion on the other thread regarding the postponement of prelims due to the pandemic. However, the discussion on the thread has now shifted to the center selection process which I feel is extremely important and thus I didnt want to disturb it. Hence, I made a new thread for this (admins please delete/block this thread if you feel this is not relevant (I am not aware of the new rules)).

I have posted screenshots of opinions of Sh Arun Kumar Saxena, Ex- Jt Secy (DoPT) regarding the grant of an additional attempt next year due to the issues faced by aspirants amidst a pandemic. I feel this is important as we are seeing a spike in cases and that is causing a lot of issues to students all over the country. In this era of competition, where the seats are extremely less (900 odd (2019) and 800 odd (2020)) each attempt gets extremely crucial and one has to be at his/her 110% on the D-Day. I request those aspirants who are having their ultimate/penultimate attempts to please come forward and brainstorm on how/if we should write/tweet to relevant authorities regarding our issues. I am sure they might pay heed to it if they get enough requests. The purpose of this thread is to build a discussion around this issue.

Respected Madam,

Sub - Compensatory Attempts for UPSC 2020 - 2021 due to Covid Lockdown.

Many aspirants have been leaving their home town and studying in cities where there is wide availability of study materials. When the Covid lockdown was announced many scrambled to their homes. Many have left their study materials and returned home. Due to travel restrictions and the general fear of travelling back to the rooms in cities, many are still at home studying with what little study books they have. Considering the fact that the Covid-19 Pandemic is a rare event whose after-effect was not expected to continue for such a long duration, I humbly request you to grant an additional opportunity as a compensatory attempt in 2021; irrespective of Age/Attempt Limit, so that there will be a level playing field for the aspirants of UPSC Civil Service Exams.

This will come as a blessing to lakhs of serious aspirants such as myself who wish to study hard and serve our citizens by working with the civil services of our country.

Yours sincerely,

I think requesting authorities for attempts by emails and tweets is our best bet. only a conciliatory approach would work

with only 49 signatures our petition is leading to nowhere

@akshay160189though petition is a good start, we have to realize that just a petition would not work. We need to write and tweet more. Also I am hoping that post final 2019 results, maybe more might join us. who knows. we have to be hopeful . I dont think what we are demanding is illogical in any sense.

@akshay160189I think you should email the exact petition (with some modifications) to officials/ leaders as well. We cant just rely on the signing of petitions and numbers. We need to try whatever we can at our end. Make a list and start emailing. I hope if atleast some email, they might take notice.

I have filed my grievance please you all should also do it.Just copy paste my grievance if you dont have idea of your own.

"I want to bring to your notice that studies of many UPSC and other exam aspirants has suffered due to covid 19 pandemic. Many aspirants are preparing since long time but, due to the pandemic, last moment studies which is primarily required in exams like UPSC has suffered a lot. Even some students pay fees to coaching institutes in delhi and other places for test papers which are held at 2-3 mths before the exams. Other who left their jobs for preparation of exam have to rejoin their jobs due  to change in exam schedule. Many UPSC aspirants  belong to medical field and so they have to join their services so as to help fight corona and so they are the most affected aspirants as they have to work more than the required hour.Other left for their hometown (or small villages) where they have lack of resources to study like internet, books, newspapers .etc.

So i urge PM and DOPT on behalf of all the students to help us by providing one time age and attempt relaxation in UPSC exams so that the students having last attempt can get fair chance to prepare and appear for the exam."
