Sociology- PYQs, Current Affairs and doubts

How can Parson's AGIL framework be used to analyse key problems in a society ?

(can someone help in brainstorming this question?)

Parsons puts cultural system at top ,followed by social, personality and organismic system. He asserts that every lower system passes information to the next higher system and every higher system enforces control over the next lower system. As a result , this exchange of properties ,ideas between different subsystems sufficiently takes place helping one sub-system to negotiate with the demands of other sub-systems ,making social system a from ofmoving equilibrium.

But when thisCybernetic hierarchy of controlis brokenthen society facesproblemsand conflicts.

For Eg-Racism-:  Blacks were discriminated in USA so they were not properlyadaptedtoeconomic system (organismic system)and thegovernments (personality system)did not set propergoalsfor their development and mobility which resulted in lowintegrationwith social system. AlsoCultural systemlike family , kinship did not dotension management and pattern maintenance (latency) thus resulting into social movements like Black lives matter.

Poverty and crime-: Poors were not integrated into economic system and government failed to achieve its goals and targets for poverty alleviation which resulted into alienation of poors from social system . And cultural system fails to do tension management . This increases crime rate in society leading to social disharmony .

But parsons give solution to problems in society in the form of mechanism of socialization and mechanism of social control  which will ultimately result in social equilibrium.

@TabsAndChords actually application does seem right, but your concept of cybernetic hierarchy is a bit wrong the lower system do not pass information to higher system
what it says is systems high in information control system low in information but high in energy, so information goes like L-I-G-A whereas energy goes the other way.

Mahapatra sir told that information does flow from lower system to higher system and then higher system controls the lower system.

you can watch him speak this concept here at 49:30 min.

Also this diagram from sangwan shows that information flows in both direction.

mate i got your point . ignore the above comment which is incorrect . its energy and not information which flows from lower to higher system .

thanks

@TabsAndChords  are you in any answer writing discussion group? it would be nice if we make one, to address doubts, see answer writing

There is no answer writing group . Groups on telegram have thousands of members which are of no use.

how do we start answer writing ?

@Kapiushon see sociology the discipline will get you 10 marks. There comes one question that would be very very static.

Thinkers would be high benefit to start with.

yes we shall start with thinkers in this thread itself ! .  first three units could be done afterwards as they are pretty simple.

@Bepop  let's start with Max Weber, Talcott Parsons, RK Merton, GH mead, Durkheim and Karl Marx in the same order as written.  Kept Durkheim and Marx at end because they are easy and we read them the most since they are given at the beginning of the syllabus.

Let's start with the pdf posted above by@Kapiushon  .

How shall we do it ? imo first we shall write answers for static questions of particular thinker and then move on to some dynamic question given in the pyq booklet.

let's write one or two answers daily. in this way we will cover thinkers in few days which would be a huge relief.

@Kapiushon @TabsAndChords  please have a look. Also people silent Sociology people if any, please evaluate and give suggestions.Weber.pdfWeber.pdf

your first answer is ok though you can emphasize little bit on why ideal type is necessary. you have focused more on telling that what is ideal type.

second answer i feel is not addressing the demand of question . you have focused more on value relevance and value neutrality but the question is asking what were the facts and what were the values in his study.

What do you think about these answers of same questionsCamScanner 05-19-2021 23.23.pdf
