UPSC releases Notification for Civil Service Examination 2020

Please someone clear the confusion regarding obc creamy layer. My father worked in state government class III service and was promoted to class II in 2017. My mother is a housewife(no income). I think I am eligible for non creamy layer. Anyone with clarity over the issue, please confirm this. In 2019, I filled the form with general category(I thought I don't come in the income bracket).Thinking to fill with OBC this time.

DoPT does a very elaborate due diligence for creamy layer cases.

I am not fully aware of the issue of determining creamy layer, especially if your father has been an employee of any of the PSUs.

What I can assure that in the past, if people who have applied as non creamy layer, and if later DoPT ( or before that UPSC ) finds you to be in creamy layer, you will be treated as General Category. This will be applicable right from Prelims stage to Mains to Interview.

However if you qualify as Gen Category, through all the stages, you will be not disqualified on grounds that you applied as OBC non creamy layer.

That is a good thing then. If I could qualify by general, and just filling obc ncl is not creating any further problem.

Thanks a lot!
