What are the ways to study effectively at home?

Hello all. I am going to write the exam next year. 2021. Studying at home has its own set of issues and few advantages as well. In these tough times of crisis and lockdown, studying at home has become more difficult for me. The disturbances of all sorts, may be family issues for some, no libraries open/safe, same monotonous days with no outings/breaks of any kind to refresh etc. The study cycle goes up and down, maintaining the momentum is harder especially for people who are in this cycle for few years like me. Please share your experiences & experimentations about how are you dealing with it.

1. Have daily and weekly targets. Try to achieve atleast 75%.

2. Study at odd hours like when everybody is asleep - late night or early morning. You can correct your schedule close to exam day.

3. Family issues are not in your hand and will keep popping up every now and then. Ignore as far as you can, if not just make a way through them and keep yourself at peace. The things which are not in control, cant be changed. What has to happen will happen.

4. Regarding breaks - I have office to break that monotony😅. You can think of a walk on terrace, some good music, light conversations with family and friends, cooking & eating maggie😁. But try to avoid prolonged distractions for breaks like youtube videos, webseries, movies, etc.

5. Remember the WHY. Why you started this journey, why you want this. You will instantly find easy solution for all the issues you are facing. In the end these all small issues wont matter.

Thats it from my side ! :)

I’ve stayed inside home for about a year in my first attempt.
Take care of your mental health. I don’t know enough to say how to.

@Tara16 :)

One more addition to the whole thing -If you dont value your time no one else will. No one knows cost of your 1hour, only you do. So spend it wisely.

How do you deal with nagging parents who only have two questions- when will you settle? When will you marry?

I am sure girls have a tough time, but boys do too.

I would suggest the following:

  1. Talk to your family and solicit their cooperation in your study.
  2. If possible, study in a separate room with the door closed and locked.
  3. Have a stopwatch ready and start it as soon as you start studying. Pause it as and when you stop studying (to check your phone, eat etc) - Find effective study time
  4. Start studying within 30 minutes of waking up (As suggested by @Neyawn,I don't know why this works but it does)
  5. Try to complete everything quickly. Look up Parkinson's law. I would suggest a quick reading of every subject in as little time as possible. If you think a chapter will take 1 hour, try and finish it in 30 minutes. In the first reading, I would suggest to get a brief idea about everything and then go deeper in the second reading.
  6. Breaks - Short but frequent. Ideally get out of your chair and walk for 5 minutes every 25 minutes. Take a longer break at meal times.
  7. This preparation requires a certain amount of perseverance. It is highly probable that you will lose confidence in yourself/your preparation. Have that fool hardiness to get up every time you get down.
  8. Have fun. The subjects are interesting and you will get to learn a lot. Let that be a driving force.

I was facing the same issues and trust me I understand what you might be going through.

I used to go to a private library in Gautam Nagar before COVID. Now one thing that has helped me the most is StudyGang App. It is the best alternative I was able to find for a regular library.
