So a lot of people will be moving to ORN/ KB and other areas in Delhi.

Don’t cut your mother’s call. Everything else can wait, but her call should not.

1. Be as selfish and as bad as you can (avoid doing samaj seva), first be a topper then develop officer like qualities

2. Don’t tell your previous academic accomplishment to anyone. People in general will then behave like your relatives and also say stuff like tera to ho jayega even if you’ve flunked PT twice before

3. You are average of 5 people you socialise with, its better to be your own average than hanging out with assholes.

ORN k relationship ORN mai hi reh jaate hai…Is it true?

Different things happen to different people.

I have often on my social media wall two of my students getting married. While at Forum they never came together though may have been in the same class. Sometimes it happens that they met in the class, sometimes they were in same class, but met in interview time, sometimes they were there in the same class, but did not know each other, and met in the academy.

On the other side, there are things that have not worked out when,

  1. One of them has made it and another has not.
  2. Both of them have made it, in same service and same year with close ranks, but have not been able to be together.

So yeah, things happen.

All generalisations, like this one, are not always true.

1. If possible, don't live with a roommate

2. Don't join the same library which your friends have joined

3. Chhai and coffee k jagah, if possible have fruits and juices.

4. if one can, stay away from any relationship.

1. Don't ignore your mental health.. ORN is a maze.. One can easily get intimidated here. .. Don't keep your emotions bottled up... Share with people who genuinely care about you..

2. Don't ignore signs of physical health concerns.. I know someone who kept procrastinating seeing a doctor till the time the issue got way too serious and eventually led to the person skipping the attempt.

3. Don't pay heed to FOMO.. Don't become a hoarder of material/test series.. Have faith on the sources you have.

Reading suggestions from friends, I have one very much unpopular opinion.

Relationships of ORN are not too bad. It helps when somebody cares : )

Idk why tea breaks are so much looked down upon. When you're surrounded by 4 walls since morning, your body does need some 30-40mins break to relax and talk to people. Not sure what kind of 'chai par charcha' people are talking about but during my previous and current stay at ORN, this has been my perfect break and tbh it does improve the efficiency.

Don't take advise from just anybody be it ORN or Telegram expert groups or channels. This has massive repercussions. It can ruin 1-2 years of preparation for just anybody. If you want to know how to clear prelims, Talk only to those who actually clear prelims. If you want to know how to clear mains, talk to Only those who have scored well.

Seek support from mentors (and NOT subject experts or outdated teachers) who givepractical advise and shut yourself from unsolicited gyaan.

Otherwise the content terrorists(in the words of Dipin sir -  Btw one can learn from him  practical way of notes making for Mains) by advising new aspirants to read Yojana, Kurukshetra or Bipin Chandra for post independence can unnecessarily complicate life

I learnt something unrelated to exam- Don't carry your valuables in hand while waiting/commuting in this area.

-One fine morningI was walking to Forum for the test, saw a guy talking over phone near Drishti building. Two guys on a scooty appeared from behind, snatched the phone and sped up. Gyan mil gya.

This holds true for any place in Delhi and not just in ORN.. I had a similar experience few years ago.. Luckily the guys on the scooty were unable to snatch my phone.. Lesson learnt for life.

See... I told you guys she is the Dangal girl :|

I have spent 7 months in Mukherjee Nagar

My observations

1.Keep away from chatting in Tea stalls. Can suck 2 hours of your daily routine.

2.Attend classes if you have joined one. No point staying in ORN and bunking classes. It will keep your momentum going.

3.Don't get intimated by the crowd. There will be some 5 percent of the class who are regularly coming to tests and scoring decent. These are the competition.

4. Talk to parents/siblings/dear ones everyday even if it is for a few minutes. It can do wonders.

5. During harsh summers think about buying a room cooler rather than saving money. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

Avoid watching porn (even if you watch; don't masturbate else you are going to lose your vital energy; side effects memory loss ) /searching, calling escorts websites, getting a massage from the spa, tinder swipe, focusing on quantity of study and study materials, social media (selected quora/Fb/Instagram reading and insta story MCQ from testbook.com on weekends could be done )

Keep a balance between gaining knowledge and giving tests; start with open book/open internet tests from the second month of your UPSC preparation even if you have started with zero / scratch; write whatever you know; rest copy paste answers from Vision IAS answer format to your test paper.  #BeRidiculous #AnswerChor in answer writing .

i am glad somebody said this. the taboo related to tea breaks

I usually have a fixed time of tea break at 5. I try to ask a friend of mine to come along if they are free. This is not to do with tea but more to do with relaxing my body and get out of the four walls.

Further, some days i go out for an unplanned tea break when i am unable to concentrate.

Lastly, if i am too sleepy and start yawning more so in morning sessions i just run out get a tea packed and get it to my desk.

These are the three types of tea breaks i usually have.

I agree with you 100% ..
It depends on person to person.. Every break can be either used judiciously to recharge oneself or can take one on a never ending break spree..
It is in our hands how we see these breaks and plan our schedule around them..

If this has not been said, let me say it.

Make sure you are not intimidated by other people preparing. Most of the times, you will meet people who won't even be writing the exam, but want to gain social respect by claiming certain prelims successes, mains successes etc.

Also when you write any open test, some people will claim unusually high marks. Remember that generally the people who make high claims about their score in prelims / open test are ones who are not getting it.

Ones who are actually doing the hard work will be secretive about it. Secretive sometimes because they don't want to share something which may or may not work in the future. And sometimes secretive becuse it's a normal for them, and may raise eyebirws for other people, and attract unwanted attention.

A better thing to do in a peer group is to say 10-20 number less than you are actually scoring in any test, so that the eyes are off you. Those things make a small, but critical difference in your success.

I had heard this only for Lbsnaa  people do it for the sake of cadre.

Joined a popular library around the metro station at ORN, it reminds me of college lol.

So many hanging around and offering advice even if not asked for and trying to build a conversation in name of literally anything. Till now I was aloof to the world in UPSC world that exists here and now I can say there’s lot that goes here.

Not to do - seek for friendships or relationship around, try to please people who won’t matter in few days, find a group to study especially with prelims around and lastly, not be tempted by the material the other person is reading.

Avoid unnecessary discussions on what coaching is good, you’ll end up regretting any decision you have made. Also, just like the world, everyone has a fair share of idea to advise about and suggest what others should do. Perhaps you’ll get a all suggestions you need to clear the exam from the bookseller around here too. You’ll g

Haha !! was expecting something better from this place : my observations on ORN :( personal view)

1.crowd intimidation: Couples roaming in  every  gullies of ORN(no Offence its quite natural)  , this leads to FOMO among many and they eventually end up in relationships------>survival(simple mei bole toh kandha (shoulder) chaiye survival ke liyeReasons are many loneliness, first time exposure to independence( usually seen in Foundation aspirants or 1st time attempters), frustration and exhaustion( veterans)

2.False consciousness: every one chills here so can we, poor chaps are  unaware about the 5-10%  aspirants who are really slogging hard in libraries and in their rooms, they are your competition  bhaii/behan log. In addition to them some really sincere candidates all over country whom we are not even aware. We are all know % of aspirants make to list in the very first first stage.

3.comfort zone Syndrome: UPSC is unpredictable , really tough , vague  prelims paper etc. etc. we feed in our mind to make us feel pity on ourself ----->we start finding comfort in our failures , will definitely  do it next year. honestly speaking  I have seen this within me.

4.Friendship/ relationships:   pls keep surrounded by people who add value to your preparation (though rarely found ).we often get intimidated  by our  nostalgic  college life, not here live your college/Hostel Days. Remember this Exam and process  is really brutal. You can see from the stories of  selected candidates how they utilized their  peer groups channelizing prep.

summering up:

  • Be cautious before starting New relationship in ORN because I believe  every good relationship   should be  an end in itself rather means to an end (i.e. survival in exam cycle as seen mostly in ORN) most of you won't find really compatible partner , compromise for sack of survival. Harsh but Truth.
  • Kindly choose your company wisely: its better to be lone wolf till you find  your pride (group of lions)hehe todha symbolic ho gaya.
  • please do take care of your mental, physical and emotional well being. Talk to your close friends, family and loved ones.
  • Be sincere NOT serious as quoted by@Neyawn.

ohh yeahek cheez toh bhul gaye:bewareof REEL AND SHORTS MOTIVATION: as said by RAMADHIR SINGH on UPSC : jab tak UPSC circle mei reels ka culture chalta rhega tab tak bhole aspirants ka chu**** banta rhega.
