What reforms would you suggest in the Civil Services Examination if you had a choice?

So now that the Mains is over, we can have this discussion. What reforms would you suggest in the CS Examination. Anyone who is writing this exam / preparing for this exam can pitch in?

I would specifically like your inputs on the kind of questions that are being asked recently/

1.Prelims key or score should be released with the result

->UPSC not releasing the key itself indicates lack of confidence in their own key.

2.Mains marks of those not passed out, released with result

->Gives scope for those who couldnt clear, to correct their mistakes. But UPSC is adamant to even release final result with marks, dont know why they take some time to release what they have in hand.

3.Scrap Optionals. Add additional GS paper if they want

->It is because of optionals, coaching s thriving. Also very unjust to compare a Messi, Jordan, Carlsen, Phelps-their fields are completely different. I dont see how they ensure same standards of paper across optionals can be maintained, no matter how much ever one tries.

->Added to this, the so called scaling and butchering. Why, when, how all known to only UPSC Baba

My friend used to say: UPSC approach is like,I have something in my mind. Tell me what is it. This is the core issue I guess. If they keep changing their mind, evaluation can never become objective.

Something that perplexes me:The exam is being conducted for over several decades. I do not see a single evaluator's(in any optional/GS) interview on Youtube or anywhere saying how they evaluate papers, the criteria, Isn't it strange. Non disclosure agreements may be there but atleast one over these many years!!

1.Toppers ke answer copies public karne chahiye.

2.Pre Result aur answer key  k sath marksheet b de dena chahiye. So that saal bhar banda speculate na karta baithe ki what went wrong

3. Number of attempts sabke same hone chahiye irrespective of caste, to bring the level playing field.

4. Upsc ko ensure karna chahiye ki jiska selection ho jaye usko dobara reservation nahi dena chahiye (irrespective of caste again) coz once you get into services you are not deprived of anything ( so leave this thing for the deprived ones)

5. Upsc ko form bharte waqt ek GIVE UP RESERVATION jaisa window rakhna chahiye. Jaise lpg subsidy logo ne giveup kar di wse hi.

6. Ias rank 100 tak  aur Ips rank 200 tak hi dena chahiye (irrespective of caste) again.

It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward !

I think govt should make it compulsory to every coaching wala to start their everyday coaching with one episode of “shark tank India”. Govt should force (in same way it’s forcing people to stand for national anthem in movies hall)every aspirant nd coaching mafia to watch and spread “shark tank India” TV prog.

2. Result and marks declaration on the same date.

3.put papers of selected candidates in public domain.

4. Once a guy clears prelims he should be eligible to write 2-3 consecutive mains.

5. Bring UPSC answer scripts under preview of RTI.

6.keeping the mental health of aspirants into consideration, govt should put complete ban on selected candidates to do any “gyaanbaazi” on various platforms  in ke gyaanbaxi Se lakhs of aspirants slips into depression.

maxm number of attempts should be 3,5,and 7 for general,obc/Ebc, sc n st. Maxm age should be 24,26&28 for UR,obc, scst. Lateral entry should be promoted, interview rejected candidates should be appointed as “shadow bureaucrats “ with apprenticeship stipend nd regularisation of job after 7-10 years subjected to satisfactory performance.

dopt,Upsc, ugc and other academic board should come together to develop dedicated course for civil service (BA) ,there should be entrance test for this course just after std 12 and selected students should taught administrations, law, society and practical issues in lbsna during 3 yrs long course.once any candidate complete it he should be appointed directly as state services and after 10 years they should be promoted to IAS/IPs .

@flyingeagle thanks. looks like more of optional one rather than GS(where it's difficult to gauge their expectation), but nevertheless is relevant to optional
