Winters 2024 : Any hack to stay consistent in prep in such cold weather?

Any hack to stay consistent in prep in such cold weather?

  1. Take bath the first or second thing after waking up. In case you delay it, rest assured you will be feeling cold for the rest of the day.
  2. Invest in a kaam chalau room heater at least, and make sure cold isnt the reason why you are not getting up. On days you dont have SFG, its fair, if you get all dressed up with winter cloths and go out for tea. That small 5-10 min walk will warm you up.
  3. Lastly have a strong sense of purpose. You should have things to do the night before, so much so that you look foward to waking up. I am a little older now, but I totally see the difference where I *so* look forward to doing things early the next day that I want morning to happen as soon as possible.
  4. This isnt to do with handling winter, but generally about motivation in the mornings. The people you talk to, the people you follow and listen make a lot of difference.  I remember when I used to wake up at 4AM, and study, review MGP questions,  read newspaper, work on my GS 4 content, my father ( who inculcated the 4AM thing in me as a child - and he himself would bring home files from office and wake up at 4am to dispose them - and I watched it as a child ) my father would give me a pat in the back - and say that if you work so hard, results will definitely be good. I lost him in Covid, and i sometimes meet people who come to know that I do such things, they end up discouraging me - saying you have no quality of life, why wake up at 4 to study, when will you get out of this etc.. I ignore such people, but the game is in hanging out with the right people.

Bathing in winters takes meticulous extensive and prolonged planning which when avoided saves time. Better is to just stay in a heated room and bath once or twice a week

@Neyawn 1.First hand experience (positive) with bathing early in morning and feeling energetic throughout the day.
2. The 4AM club is fantastic but the problem lies in sleeping at 9, real enemy is this phone. Any suggestions to reduce screen time?

I switch off the phone at night and put it in charging mode.

I have a Kindle, and try to read it. I also have an old iPad mini which is great for reading stuff. It has no WhatsApp, no calling, so no distraction.

I have an old analogue watch which I like to wear ( been and like wearing watches 24*7 since I was in class 6. )

Problem with analog watch is that can't see time at night for waking up. I tried smart watches, but the burden of charging them twice a day puts me off. Though they are good for vibrating alarms, it wakes you up without waking up others.

Anyone else tried anything like that?

@Neyawn I have no whatsapp or instagram on my phone. But i love listening music on spotify and this habit would disturb my schedule.
earlier I used earbuds as it was comfortable lying in bed and listening songs. To overcome this, I bought an "over the head" headphone. due to the difficulty in handling headphones while lying on bed, i have reduced my music sessions and started sleeping early.

and my earbuds are now kept in almirah

I wish I loved music ( or anything ) that much!

For me having a run early morning helps. Because if I don't run, I don't have a reason to enter the bathroom. So even on days when I don't want to run, I have started to run for 10 mins with a hoodie on. Creates a massive difference.
And yes sir you are absolutely spot on not having a bath makes me feel cold throughout the whole day.

Temptation Bundling

Pair a pleasurable indulgence with a task you find hard to do.

Think about something that moves you, makes you happy (eg. Playing badminton/playing guitar/running/gymming/taking strolls..etc.)

Plan to do this activity only in the time that makes you dull for studies. This shall motivate you to remain active during the dull/difficult time even in winters.

I know it works because I have tried it. I have paired learning music software (my passion) with waking up early(difficult job). I get up excited in the mornings because of this motivation.

Hope it helps.
