Just watching Youtube trending page;
#1 is BTS video
now my question, I watched many of their videos, never liked one. So is there something I am missing.
I like songs of BLACKPINK- It contains catchy music, all songs hit different (with BTS it is like same song again)
Never thought i would get to defend my ARMY status on forum 😂
@Hououin_Kyouma Neither is their music how it is manufactured nor their trending number 1 is organic. Whereas BlackPink they make some decent ones.
I agree that streaming isn’t the best option when compared to western artists who usually grow their fan bases quite organically. But I would beg to differ with regards to their music manufacturing. BTS music (as far as I have observed) nowadays is split into two distinct sub-types: music for fun and music for the soul (if you want to get deep with it). Fun music (like dynamite and butter) aren’t mean to be too deep and are aimed at more mass success (especially in the US and Europe, where they get a lot of their mercy sales from besides their domestic markets in Koran and Japan). They also do these songs to break into the mainstream Western music market and get formal recognition from the Academy (which was what happened with Dynamite- an unfortunate choice to be selected, in my opinion)
as for their deeper music, they reserve it for albums which i would really urge your to check out. Their music ranges from speaking up on issues of inequality, government arbitrariness, growing pains, art and the consequences of fame. Besides, the members itself are quite involved with the writing and producing aspect of their music. They do collaborate with western producers and writers but they have a really strong in-house team as well. Their leader, RM has over 700 writing credits to his name and is one of the three members who are officially recognised by the Korean Music Academy as well. Besides, he is genuinely one of the gentlest most poetic souls I have encountered in my 26 years on earth.
Moreover, their music videos are quite deep in themselves and explore quite complex and interconnected storyline’s that pull from different literary sources a swell. Herman Hesse (during Wings era) and Carl Jung (during Map of the Soul era) feature as key influences to their work. To everyone here, please do give a listen to Black Swan (with translations, of course) or Life Goes On and Spring Day and read some of their theories to their videos as well to truly understand the depth of their musicality
theories about music reminds me of a time when i was a TOOL fan. God what a crazy fan base they had/have with people finding fibbonacci and waht not in their song structures, like the songs were not simple songs but parables for some deep hidden wisdom, and fans came up with mind boggling theories while decoding their songs.
