@Inselberg I agree on most things you have said
What you are deducing is just another aspect of the whole inflation/deflation process of the papers. And its true that a few candidates would overall write a much better paper to tough questions than what majority would do, hence a few very good scores bucking the trend of deflation would be seen in the paper specifically deflated every year.
Who knows, it might be GS1 in CSM 2021 that gets rewarded liberally 😄 and all the notions of low cost-benefit in relation to Post Independence History and World History that people here have been citing are thrown out of the window.

Yeah.

So the conclusion as it appears to me is to basically minimize the risk in this uncertain environment. Practically meaning, find out one's weakness(es) and then work upon them.

The ideal or the platonian objective is to become a master of all trades. However, practically one can't be equally intelligent in all the subjects.

Hence the Aristotelian or the next best alternative is to atleast be a Jack of all trades first and master of some later.

And then one other big catch here is to atleast become a master of one subject in each GS paper. Again minimizing the risk and simultaneously maximizing the benefit.

Just in case one is excellent in 3 GS-2 subjects (polity, governance and IR) but if the theory 1 is true and UPSC decides to deflate GS2 scores, one would be at a bigger disadvantage than someone who worked equally hard in mastering equal number of 3 subjects but they chose them wisely. By spreading them across 1,2 and 3. Geography, IR and Economics.

However, the larger attempt remains the same; to master all. Leave none behind.

But wisdom lies in prioritization of tasks at hand.

I am feeling the shittiest I have ever felt, since the advent of this ill fated pandemic.

One of my friend, is suffering from mucormycosis since last 15 days. He is not just a friend, but more than that. In common parlance, he is my ‘langotiya yaar’. After suffering from a very severe covid, he was diagnosed and operated for the fungus on the same day. But the fungus remerged a week ago. He was again operated for same. And when we thought he is on track to recovery, last evening, he suffred a nightmarish brain stroke. Since then, he is on ventilator, diminishing all the little progress he made for his recovery.

It is the feeling of helplessness, which is taking a toll on my psyche. I am here miles away from him. Though remotely we did everything we could do to help him. Coordinated with his family. Chased leads for the live saving drug, raised funds for his operation, made sure he receives best of the treatment possible in his vicinity. But after his last evening’s brain stroke, and he being lying in a semi conscious state, I am at the inflection point of breakdown.

I don’t feel like doing anything. I wish I could have persuaded him to take the vaccine. I wish we could return to our campus once again, to cherish the common memories associated there. I wish I could give him a tight hug.

Dear all, I have no other avenue to pen down my thoughts, thus I chose this platform.

Beg, Borrow, or Steal, but please get vaccinated. Despite all the shortages, even if a single dose is up for grab in your district, make sure that you  (or your near or dear ones) get that slot. The unseen affect of taking a jab tabhi samajh aata hai, jab aapda ghar ke chaukath pe khadi hokar, yamraaj wali dastak deti hai.

Hope is the only thing I can bank upon. Hope my friend returns...

How devastated you must be, it is unimaginable. As dark as this period is, please have hope that it's just that - a period, a short duration of time. All will be well soon enough, even when all things around us may scream otherwise. Words are no consolation, but sometimes they are all one has for offering.

Sending prayers your way. If I can help in any manner, please let me know.

I'd like to add to your appeal for everyone reading this message:

Please get vaccinated, and please get everyone around you vaccinated. The best vaccine is the one you get, the best time is now, and waiting for Pfizer is not a wise move. Translate this message into whatever language you may like, but spread it. Even if you yourself are not convinced, be the best advocate for vaccination right now.

It may not be a complete anti-dote against COVID, but it maybe a respite from the sheer anger, anxiety or helplessness that COVID can wreak on love ones, or yourself.

Some suggestions regarding preparation of GS Paper II (Polity & IR) are needed.

I gave my previous two mains by reading Vision Mains 365 and a little writing practice. My scores were 81 & 86 in Paper II.

I think i have reached plateau as far as vision mains 365 is concerned. This time i want to try something different, so far i am following issue based preparation as suggested by@Neyawn  but it is so demanding (notes preparation & a lot of reading from different sources) plus it is not generating confidence as it should be (may be upcoming AWFG 2.0 could help).

So friends if you could give some valuable suggestions it would be highly appreciated.

Also upcoming attempt will be my last attempt. :(

But issu based preparation is the way to go. It took me a long time to realise this. Some of the best candidates who “predictably” get ranks ( as opposed to people who get ranks ) after strategising and all , have made crisp notes of issues.

I mean some people have cleared the exam just because of this. They earlier had the strategy of reading stuff end to end like we do for prelims.

But Mains requires you to answer only one question on a certain issue, so prepare accordingly.

People who have the habit of reading things back to back ( prelims hangover ) make tremendous progress once they switch the approach .

@Pureheart Have you tried by noting down just 5-7-9 things of each dimension on any issue ?

You can begin with that. If you have dearth of time, take up some classes if possible.  It reduces the time taken to prepare.

Also please have an incremental approach . Don’t try to have perfect notes on Day zero.

@Neyawn Sir i am doing everything as suggested in “forumias strategy after prelims postpone video”. I realised from last 3 mains that placing full trust in just one institute is important, otherwise one finds himself here& there in this tough competition.

I was planning to join mains current Affairs classes (8th June), but i enrolled for AWFG & MGP.  My optional is Mathematics, it is so huge that i hardly left with any spare time. So may be i will join after prelims.

Thanks for your reply, your words carry huge weight. I will continue issue based preparation even if it takes time.

@Neyawn does this mean one should do her own research with respect to issues and not rely on CA magazines/notes?

I had been in a dilemma whether to go for issue based prep considering mathematics optional as well. Your perseverance is inspiring! Keep going on :)
