Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.
This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.
No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.
Moderator Update: This thread has crossed 1 million views and has thousands of comments slowing down the website. We are closing this and moving to the next thread
I have not used any specific apps as such for focussed study. But recently when mindlessly binge watching YouTube videos, have resorted for digital wellbeing option on my phone and for few days , saved some apps in hidden mode .
But I always found an excuse to open my phone, disable digital wellbeing timer and waste time as earlier.
But now I keep my phone in another room and then sit for studying. Only this works for me

Is forest useful? Does it translate into actual study hours or is it cheatable?
Everything is cheatable. But I have managed to create some protocols for myself. Like, I usually work in 50 minute work sessions. But if I am a little distracted in that session, I usually work 15 more minutes after the session without counting it on forest. Sometimes, I am just too distracted, I just cancel the session & delete all the minutes that the app has recorded in the session. The idea is to constantly undercount. Slowly, you'll want to reduce this undercounting & will try to be more focussed. It works most of the times for me.
I just like to know the number of hours at the end. I used to use another app called "productivity challenger" for four-odd years. Worked wonders for me. But forest is just more flexible, more beautiful.
Here, I had written about some other traps that one may fall into when using such apps: https://forumias.com/post/detail/CSE-2021-Plan-Strategy-Daily-Routine-1602556617?JS1DNFctQzRgCmAK
Thank you for that, this was a really good read. I tried the pomodoro technique/ taking breaks after a 50 minute session and realised that it didn’t work for me. I’m more of a solid 3 hour session kind because I’ve realised more than a lack of concentration, I have massive inertia, so getting started is more difficult than sticking on, hence short breaks tend to be quite counterproductive. Through this exam process I’ve realised that I basically need to loophole my own loopholes, in a never-ending “outcheating my cheating” cycle.
I recently came across a book called “how to finish what you’ve started” (ironically, never finished that book) which spoke about creating protocols as well, which is the only piece of information that I managed to imbibe from that book
p.s it was a terrible book anyway
I have that same book. And I too did not finish it. :P It is a terrible book.

Oh nice! I have a really old Vajiram book which I got during coaching in 2017. Using that to cover the topic
Good to see you back@Celeborn .
Today could only finish one subtopic of GS 3 and made notes of CA. Having severe headache because of dry eyes. Will take rest and see how I feel tomorrow, and if I can finish the left over topics of today.
