How to maximize output in drop year for CSE?

I am planning to take a drop for 1 year and write CSE in 2028. How should I utilise this gap year to plan my preparation? Should I focus on state PCS exams as well?

@Bharat Mata Ki Jai here are a few things

If your basics ars in place

Spend june to december doing mains. Gs +optionsl
Avoid man mein taiyari. Have a tracker to write down number of pages read, answers written, mains paper solved, pages of notes made. Have a number. If yiu cant have a number yiu csnt improve it.
From.december start gs for prelims only. May take a look at sfg. Try topping it. Like top 10, top 50. Solve the toolkit by dec, jan, feb
Do csat classes somewhere if you have csat issues. By csat issues i mean if you are getting less than 80, by all means take some class.

If your basics are not in place, focus on the following:

First, over the next three months, try to complete the Big Four foundational subjects — Polity, History, Geography, and Economy. One cannot realistically prepare for the Mains examination unless these four subjects are completed at a solid Prelims level. Your objective should be to become sufficiently strong in these subjects so that by next year — around December or January, when Mains preparation intensifies — you are already on top of them.

Second, spend the next two to three months (June, July, and August) building this foundation. Thereafter, from September to December, dedicate four months to focused Mains preparation. Do extensive answer writing, take classes if possible, and strengthen your content base. Do not become someone who clears Prelims and then runs around like a headless chicken searching for content.

If you put in sustained effort and consistently perform well in SLGs, Prelims tests, or other evaluations, there is a high probability that you will clear Prelims. Of course, there will be aberrations and some years may go badly, but statistically, consistent performers tend to clear.

Third, after December, return your focus to the Prelims examination. Merely writing tests will not be enough. Your aim should be to consistently secure strong ranks — single digits several times, and regularly within the top 10, top 20, top 50, or top 100. That should be the benchmark.

Lastly, if you are eligible for the Forest Services examination, manage your attempts carefully. Ensure that every Forest attempt is a prepared attempt. Many candidates make the mistake of casually ticking the Forest Services option while focusing only on Civil Services. After exhausting four Civil Services attempts, they realise they have also exhausted Forest attempts without serious preparation. That is a major blunder. If you still have Forest attempts left, preserve them and do not waste them.
