[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Although I don't want exam to get postponed. But certainly health is a prime issue. IAS banne k liye zinda rehna bhi zaroori hai. Corona have different effects on different bodies. We don't know how it is going to behave on our's body. Large possibility that it will have zero effect on us. Lekin thode chances to zaroor hai ki ye hamari atma ko parmatma se milwa de.

@Dev1990  many young doctors have died too,so everyone is responding differently to infection.Yes i can agree young are less susceptible to serious complications but many of us have grandparents and even many of our parents have Diabetes, hypertension etc...that is the real concern

By seeing how the things are unfolding over a period of time upsc should reconsider it's decision to hold pre on Oct 4 in the best interest of all aspirants.

@rafael we need more such sensible and proactive ministers in centre as well as in states..

Here we are facing policy paralysis in my opinion.. if the decision makers themselves are short-sighted and are unwilling to co-operate with the public, how can they expect law and order to remain in place.. neither they are trying to take the masses in confidence nor they are addressing the majority's issues.. if a certain percentage of silent minority is asking them to conduct the exam and the majority is screaming their lungs out for the postponement, i strongly feel they must address the concerns of both the parties..

Take the public in confidence then do whatever you want.. make the kids understand by your logic that why conducting the exam is your highest priority.. and then try to minimise their issues to a limited extent..

But the least Government can do is to address the problems and acknowledge them..

Anyway 🙄kya hi rakha hai in sab me..

Guys, we should try hard to postpone Prelims. I guess those who are in favour of having prelims on Oct 4th dont really realise how difficult it is going to be to wear mask, maybe face-shield too, and try to conc hard for almost 4 hrs. On top of that, you can't visit the washroom or splash some water over your face before the exam to freshen up.

Incase the govt doesnt budge, we should (every single one of us) push for compensatory attempts. I hope everyone agrees on this point atleast, that all our daily study routine and preparation has got badly affected...everything went for a toss with Corona and on top of that, floods, cyclones, etc.

Bihar polls & Tamil Nadu polls are coming up.
Huge number of aspirants appear for UPSC CSE from these states every year.  If we try hard, maybe they will grant us compensatory attempts keeping the polls in mind.

The arguments made against postponement of exams doesn't reflect any merit.

Let's look into the arguments.

1)Life must go on.

It's ideological but not pragmatic approach right now.

Yes we have to move forward however, it's the duty of state to provide opportunities for health development of children. Does this situation look healthy?

Not to mention the mental health (which still remain neglected) got adversely affected since lockdown with no option for collective study.

In many places, there are local lockdown or restrictions in place with scattered contaminated zones.

2) economy got opened so exams must happen as well.

Well, opening up the economy was necessity as majority of people in India belong to lower (especially daily wage earners) or middle class and need livelihood to sustain family.

But exams isn't a necessity over health.

3)some states conducted exams so there is no problem in conducting national level exams.

When states conduct exams then centres are more widely distributed across districts within that respective state.

But at the time of national level examination, centres are restricted to only 2-3 cities in each state resulting into more migration of students from other districts.

This worsen the situation as they have to travel and look for lodging to stay.

4) majority of students are ready because they downloaded the hall tickets.

This is just absurd. Downloading admit cards doesn't reflect they are ready.

Also, even if I consider that only minority wants exam to be postponed (say 10-20 % people) then that's huge proportion in a

Democracy is not just about majority but also giving voices to minority.

Where is equality of opportunity for students being situated similarly over here?

I know people who came back to their hometown with their most of the study materials still at their hostel which is in different state

I know people who haven't went out in last five months and struggled to maintain study flow.

One of my known, got infected then recovered and then got infected again.

There are reports that few of those who recovered are facing health issues.

There is utter disregard of empathy here.

Well, the best course of action in my opinion, if they don't feel like postponement could have been

For neet/jee where academics year is at stake.

1) centres should have been in almost all districts within a state.

2) provide compensation to those who aren't willing to appear or are giving their last attempt to ease their mind.

For other exams where academic year is not at stake

1) merge vacancies of this year with next year. There would be more seats to accomodate the increase in aspirants which will happen as year progresses unlike the case in neet.

Also, education is in concurrent list and corona is nationwide problem. Union government should consider holding discussions with state governments and student community before taking any unilateral decision.

Just one question for u

Is there any guarantee that vaccine will come next year and may-june tak sabko lag jaaegi ?
What if vaccine doesnt come out for next 2 years ??

PS:- ( i m in favour of postponement ; but these thoughts are also hovering in my mind)
