How was your paper? How did you approach the paper?
@Declared_Dead i dont know about this mystery called preperation in this exam. preparation kabhi puri nahin hoti. hamein lagta hum next attempt me tod denge. lekin is baar ki prep ko underestimate karte hain. next attempt me bhi apni alag unpredictability rahegi. sare papers alag ayengetoppers rank laane ke baad kuch bhi bhaasan dete rahe selection ke pehle sirf list me aane ki ummeed rakhte hainmental state sabka more or less same hi rehta hai
Preparation toh kbhi complete nhi hone wala. Apne haath m ye hai ki apne shortcomings ko dhondhe aur uspe kaam kre. But 1-2 attempt k baad shortcomings dhoondhna bhi tough ho jata. Tb jabardasti ka weakness bhi nikal lete hain. Sabse common content ya optional se related.
Fir kuch oversmart toppers ki entry hogi. Woh form bharne se pehle nhi jaante honge ki civil services main 3 stage hota hai. Unko koi senior mil jayega jo demotivate krega ki first attempt main clear nhi hota. Fir woh clear krke stage pe bolenge. Woh coaching bhi join krenge aur 10-15 din k baad chhod denge. Result k baad coaching waalo ko ritual k hisaab se gaali denge although test series unhi ka likha hoga.........
True topic selection took a lot of time and I brainstormed initially for real rational but felt helpless beyond major theme ,so quickly switched to wantlessness-chimera and spent maybe 5-6 minute for structure as I felt that I have already wasted good 10 minutes on topic confusion
Points were mostly relevant to the question 🤯 and in finished atleast 5-10 minutes before ,even I was confused on how did that happen for someone who couldn't complete paper on time just a week before exam
Maybe the pen or ultimate priority to just finish the paper to get average marks , something helped

Jo bhi ho. Relevant content ( even if average without committes or data) + good time management = high chances of clearing mains.
All d best👍
The Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956 came amidst Jawaharlal Nehru’s thundering denunciation of the Anglo-French attempt to seize the Suez Canal. While Delhi minced words on the Russian invasion of Hungary many opposition leaders criticised Nehru’s ambivalence. That India needed the Soviet veto in the UN Security Council on the Kashmir question clearly shaped Delhi’s readiness to subordinate its foreign policy principles for political expediency; but it opened India to the charge of diplomatic double standards.
The invasion of Czechoslovakia to crush the Prague Spring of 1968 came at a time when Delhi was leading the Asian criticism of the US war in Vietnam. While Delhi twisted in the diplomatic wind to balance its political dependence on Russia with its commitment to national sovereignty, it was subjected once again to charges of geopolitical hypocrisy.

"Reflecting national sentiment, this House (Lok Sabha) deplores the military action by the coalition forces led by the USA against a sovereign Iraq. This military action, with a view to changing the Government of Iraq, is unacceptable. The resultant suffering of the innocent people of Iraq, especially women and children, is a matter of grave human dimension[sic]. This action without the specific sanction of the UN Security Council and is not in conformity with the UN Charter. The House, therefore, expresses profound anguish and deep sympathy for the people of Iraq."
- official response on Iraq invasion
And now India abstains on UNSC resolution that ‘deplores’ Russian aggression against Ukraine.
I think Kissinger himself would approve of India's actions.
5 min of brainstorming in both essay combined is not something to be proud of. for all i can do in 5 mins is take deep breaths to control the situation of seeing all philosophical essays followed by choosing the right topic (safest + demand is clear + i can explore maximum dimensions). actually this takes more time. the follow up is actually easy as i let brain go haywire and finally arrange thoughts. start writing and more thoughts follow which are subsequently included.
rest completing all papers before 10 mins in my view probably means that content was not just average but like really average. "infrastructure is good for india " type average. it can also mean that mind was working seamlessly and all questions were well attempted as thoughts(relevant) kept pouring in. i have to think even in 10 marker for 6-7 seconds before starting to write.while writing, thoughts keep pouring intermittently which decides average or above average answer for me. and that breaks flow and time needed increases (for me)
I tried to check individual time but couldn't follow it fully ,so just made it like 30min tasks to complete for 15 marks and 15 min tasks to complete for 10m
But mostly went with the flow without thinking much or resting in between
Unrelated but there is a way to large difference between IIT (Adv) and UPSC-CSE in terms of unpredictability.
In Advanced, some candidates are too sure of getting under 10 AIR and they get it. When I was in 12th, there used to be a prodigy kid in class 9th. That kid used to solve Irodov and JD Lee very easily. Yesterday I was reminiscing my school days, Googled his name and Whoa ! he did IIT-D (CS) and is now in London.
In CSE, the AIR-1 also wishes to "just get in the list".

Yup. Even before exam people start predicting name of rank 1. After exam coaching centers informaly release possible rank 1.
Bt in civil services nothing is certain. So much of unpredictability is there. One performed well in optional bt that optional got butchered. Performed well in mains bt interviewer was sad as salt in samosa was more than usual......
First mains ,gave just iasbaba free mock a week before mains and few pyq on my ownIn the few mocks I wrote ,I was struggling to complete 17 questions (marks were around 80) due to time constraintsBut on the day of exam, I started attempting from 15 m and then 10m in GS ,in essay I just alloted 5 min for structure formationSurprisingly I completed all questions on time and had 9-10 minutes remaining during which I added any missing terms ,underlining double underlining heading and terms like it's done in schoolI'm sure that neither quality of answers nor handwriting did not go too bad,it was mostly relevant points and legible enoughThe person sitting next to me gave a weird look like how the heck you got time to underline stuff even in Ethics😬I know the marks cannot be predicted but I'm really afraid on finishing fast my papers although the average content and legible handwriting was there ,did anyone else experience similar surprising powers in exam hall ?
No offence bro, but even a prodigy in English language would have taken 5 min just to understand the questions in essay paper, i don't know how u have formed a structure in 5 minutes. Anyways u might be exceptional.
